Hadith 6854
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both), he says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: O Jabir! Do you have a wife? I replied: Yes. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Was she previously married or a virgin? I said: When I married her, she was previously married. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Why did you not marry a virgin girl? I said: My father was martyred with you in such-and-such battle and left behind daughters, and I did not like to bring a young girl like them among them; rather, I married this woman so that she could comb the hair of my sisters, and if their shirt was torn, she could sew it. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You have made a very good decision.
Hadith 6855
(Second chain) Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: Have you gotten married? I said: Yes. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Was she a virgin or a widow? I said: She was a widow. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Why did you not marry a virgin, so that she would play with you and you would play with her? I submitted: O Messenger of Allah! My father was martyred on the day of Uhud and left behind seven daughters among the survivors, so I did not like to add another inexperienced one like them. I chose a woman who would comb their hair and look after them. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You have done the right thing.
Hadith 6856
. (Third chain of narration) There is a similar narration, except that in it: The Noble Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Do you have bed sheets? I replied: O Messenger of Allah! Where would we get bed sheets from? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Right now you are poor and have little wealth, but beware! Soon there will be sheets. Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Today, when I tell my wife to move her sheets away from me, she says: Did the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) not say that soon you will have bed sheets? So how can I leave them?
