Narrated by Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him): We were engaged in jihad with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and we did not have our wives with us. We said: O Messenger of Allah! Should we not get ourselves castrated? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade us from doing so, and then permitted us to marry women for a specified period in exchange for garments and the like (which is called Mut’ah). Then Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) recited this verse: O you who believe! Do not make unlawful the good things which Allah has made lawful for you, and do not transgress. Indeed, Allah does not like the transgressors.
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man came to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! Permit me to be castrated. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The way of castration for my Ummah is to fast and to stand in prayer at night.
Hadith Takhrij«
Narrated by Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both): A young man came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: Will you permit me to be castrated? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Observe fasting and ask Allah Almighty for His bounty.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Uthman bin Maz’oon (may Allah be pleased with him) intended to practice celibacy, but the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade him. If the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had permitted him, we would have become eunuchs.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade abstinence (from marriage and worldly relations).
It is narrated from Sa’d bin Hisham that he said to Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her): I want to ask you about abstinence (tabattul); what is your opinion about it? She said: Do not do so. Have you not heard the statement of Allah Almighty: “And indeed We sent Messengers before you and appointed for them wives and offspring.” Therefore, avoid abstinence. Then he went out, having acquired understanding and jurisprudence, then he went to Basra, and after staying there for some time, he went towards the land of Makran, and there, while performing the best of deeds, he was martyred.
(Second chain) Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Avoid celibacy. Have you not read this verse? Allah Almighty said: Indeed, in the life of the Messenger of Allah there is a best example for you. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also married and he (peace and blessings be upon him) also had children.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There is no compulsion in Islam.
