بَاب مَا جَاءَ فِي حُلْوَانِ الْكَاهِنِ وَأَخْبَارٍ عَنِ الْكُهَانِ
Chapter: What Has Been Reported Regarding the Fee of the Soothsayer and Reports About Soothsayers
Hadith 6818
عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ ثَمَنِ الْكَلْبِ وَمَهْرِ الْبَغِيِّ وَحُلْوَانِ الْكَاهِنِ.
Narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Mas'ud Uqbah bin 'Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the price of a dog, the fee of a prostitute, and the payment to a soothsayer.
Hadith 6819
عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُمْ خَرَجُوا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي سَفَرٍ فَنَزَلُوا رُفَقَاءَ، رُفْقَةٌ مَعَ فُلَانٍ وَرُفْقَةٌ مَعَ فُلَانٍ، فَنَزَلْتُ فِي رُفْقَةِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَكَانَ مَعَنَا أَعْرَابِيٌّ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْبَادِيَةِ، فَنَزَلْنَا بِأَهْلِ بَيْتٍ مِنَ الْأَعْرَابِ وَفِيهِمُ امْرَأَةٌ حَامِلٌ، فَقَالَ لَهَا الْأَعْرَابِيُّ: أَيَسُرُّكِ أَنْ تَلِدِي غُلَامًا، إِنْ أَعْطَيْتِنِي شَاةً، فَوَلَدْتِ غُلَامًا، فَأَعْطَتْهُ شَاةً وَسَجَعَ لَهَا أَسَاجِيعَ، قَالَ: فَذَبَحَ الشَّاةَ فَلَمَّا جَلَسَ الْقَوْمُ يَأْكُلُونَ، قَالَ رَجُلٌ: أَتَدْرُونَ مَا هَذِهِ الشَّاةُ؟ فَأَخْبَرَهُمْ، قَالَ: فَرَأَيْتُ أَبَا بَكْرٍ مُتَبَرِّئًا مُسْتَنْبِلًا مُتَقَيِّئًا.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that they set out on a journey with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the people split into groups and camped at a place, one group with so-and-so, another group with so-and-so. I was in the group of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). There was also a Bedouin with us. We camped near the house of some villagers, among whom was a pregnant woman. The Bedouin said to this woman: "Would you like to give birth to a boy? If you give me a goat, a boy will be born in your house." So the woman gave him a goat, and the Bedouin spoke to her in rhymed phrases and slaughtered the goat. When the people sat down to eat, a man said: "Do you know what kind of goat this is?" Then he told them the real story behind it. I saw Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) forcing himself to vomit in order to express his aversion to that food.
Hadith 6820
عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّ قُرَيْشًا أَتَوْا كَاهِنَةً فَقَالُوا لَهَا: أَخْبِرِينَا بِأَقْرَبِنَا شَبَهًا بِصَاحِبِ هَذَا الْمَقَامِ، فَقَالَتْ: إِنْ أَنْتُمْ جَرَرْتُمْ كِسَاءً عَلَى هَذِهِ السَّهْلَةِ ثُمَّ مَشَيْتُمْ عَلَيْهَا أَنْبَأْتُكُمْ فَجَرُّوا ثُمَّ مَشَى النَّاسُ عَلَيْهَا فَأَبْصَرَتْ أَثَرَ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَتْ: هَذَا أَقْرَبُكُمْ شَبَهًا بِهِ، فَمَكَثُوا بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ عِشْرِينَ سَنَةً أَوْ قَرِيبًا مِنْ عِشْرِينَ سَنَةً أَوْ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ ثُمَّ بُعِثَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Quraysh went to a soothsayer woman and said: Tell us who among us is most deserving and worthy of the station of Prophethood? She said: If you spread a sheet over this soft ground and walk over it, I will tell you. They spread the sheet, then the people walked over it, and she saw the traces and signs of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: He is the most deserving of the station of Prophethood among you. Not even twenty years, or close to that, had passed after this incident when he (peace and blessings be upon him) was appointed as a Prophet.
Hadith 6821
عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ الظَّفَرِيِّ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: ((يَخْرُجُ مِنَ الْكَاهِنِينَ رَجُلٌ يَدْرُسُ الْقُرْآنَ دِرَاسَةً لَا يَدْرُسُهَا أَحَدٌ يَكُونُ بَعْدَهُ)).
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Burdah Zufari, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: A man from among the soothsayers will appear, he will recite the Noble Qur'an in such a manner that after him no one will recite like him.
