It is narrated from Huzain bin Munzir that Walid bin Uqbah led the people in the Fajr prayer. When he finished, he turned to the people and said: "Shall I lead you in more prayer?" This matter was presented before Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), and he ordered him to be flogged. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Sayyiduna Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): "O Hasan! Stand up and flog him." He said: "What do you have to do with this matter?" Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "You have become weak and helpless." Then he said: "O Abdullah bin Ja'far! Stand up and flog him." So Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him) flogged him, and Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) began to count. When they reached forty, Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Stop." Then he said: "The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave forty lashes for drinking wine. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) gave forty lashes throughout his era, and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) gave forty lashes at the beginning of his caliphate, then Sayyiduna Umar completed the punishment for drinking wine to eighty (80) lashes."
(Some other chain) Some people from Kufa came to Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) and informed him about Walid drinking alcohol. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) spoke to Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) on this matter. He said: You yourself seize your cousin and carry out the prescribed punishment on him. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Hasan! Stand up and lash him. He said: What concern do you have with this matter? Assign this matter to someone else. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Rather, you have become weak and cowardly... Then a narration similar to the first narration was mentioned.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man was brought to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) who had drunk alcohol. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Beat him." Then some of us beat him with our hands, some with their shoes, and some with their clothes. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was finished, a man said: "May Allah disgrace you." But the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not say this. Do not help Satan against him. Rather, say: May Allah have mercy on you."
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man was brought to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he had drunk alcohol. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) struck him with two sandals, giving him forty strikes.
(In another narration) During the blessed era of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), the punishment for drinking alcohol was administered with two sandals, amounting to forty strikes. When the caliphate of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) began, he replaced each sandal strike with a lash.

Narrated by Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prescribed the punishment for drinking wine with date palm branches and shoes. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) also prescribed the same punishment. According to Yahya’s narration, forty lashes were given. When the caliphate of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) began, people became prosperous due to the abundance of conquests, so wine drinking increased. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) consulted his companions and said: What is your opinion regarding this matter now? Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) said: You should prescribe the lightest punishment among all. Thus, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) fixed the punishment for drinking wine at eighty lashes.
(Second chain) A man who had drunk wine was brought to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He struck him forty times with two palm branches. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) continued this practice, but when Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) became caliph, he consulted the people. Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) advised that the lightest prescribed punishment is eighty lashes, so Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) ordered that the drunkard be given eighty lashes.
Narrated from Sayyiduna Sa’ib bin Yazid (may Allah be pleased with him): In the blessed era of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), during the caliphate of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), and in the early period of the caliphate of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), we used to bring the drunkard and, standing close to him, would beat him with hands, shoes, and clothes. Then, at the beginning of the caliphate of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), the prescribed punishment for the drunkard was set at forty lashes. But when the drunkards became rebellious and adopted wickedness, the punishment for the drunkard was made eighty lashes.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Harith (may Allah be pleased with him) that Nu’aiman or Ibn Nu’aiman was brought to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he was intoxicated. This matter was burdensome for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). In another narration, it is stated: This situation caused great distress to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered those present in the house to beat him. Sayyiduna Uqbah says: I was also among those who beat him. We beat him with our hands and with palm branches.
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Azhar (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I saw the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the day of the conquest of Makkah, while I was a young man. You were coming from among the people and inquiring about the house of Sayyiduna Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with him). Meanwhile, a drunkard was brought to you. You ordered the people, and whatever was in their hands, they began to strike him with it. Some struck with sticks and some with whips. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) threw a handful of dust on him.
(Second chain) Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I saw the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passing among the people on the day of Hunayn and inquiring about the house of Sayyiduna Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with him). Meanwhile, a drunkard was brought to you, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered the people with him to strike him with whatever was in their hands.
It is narrated from Abu Wadaak, he says: I have not drunk nabidh since I heard this hadith from Sayyiduna Abu Saeed Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him). He says: A man was brought to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and people informed that he was intoxicated. He said: I only drank after putting dried grapes and dates in a gourd vessel. In any case, he was beaten with shoes and pushed with hands, and the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade drinking by mixing dried grapes and dates in a gourd vessel.

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Each of these suffices in place of the other."
It is narrated from Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: When I establish a hadd punishment on a person and he dies, I will not grieve, except in the case of the hadd for drinking wine. If someone dies during this hadd, then I will pay his blood money, because the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not specify its hadd.
