Chapter: Evidence for Stoning the Married Adulterer from the Book of Allah the Mighty and Majestic

عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ قَالَ عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى بَعَثَ مُحَمَّدًا صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَنْزَلَ عَلَيْهِ الْكِتَابَ فَكَانَ فِيمَا أَنْزَلَ عَلَيْهِ آيَةُ الرَّجْمِ فَقَرَأْنَاهَا وَعَقَلْنَاهَا وَوَعَيْنَاهَا فَأَخْشَى أَنْ يَطُولَ بِالنَّاسِ عَهْدٌ فَيَقُولُوا إِنَّا لَا نَجِدُ آيَةَ الرَّجْمِ فَتُرَكَ فَرِيضَةٌ أَنْزَلَهَا اللَّهُ تَعَالَى وَأَنَّ الرَّجْمَ فِي كِتَابِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى حَقٌّ عَلَى مَنْ زَنَى إِذَا أَحْصَنَ مِنَ الرِّجَالِ وَالنِّسَاءِ إِذَا قَامَتِ الْبَيِّنَةُ أَوْ كَانَ الْحَبْلُ أَوِ الْاعْتِرَافُ
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Allah Almighty sent Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and in the Book which Allah revealed to him, there was also the verse of stoning. We had read it, understood it, and memorized it well. I fear that with the passage of time, people will begin to say that we do not find the verse of stoning in the Noble Qur'an, and thus one of the obligations revealed by Allah Almighty will be abandoned, whereas stoning is established in the Book of Allah Almighty. The man and woman who commit adultery while being married should be stoned, when there is testimony, or pregnancy becomes apparent, or the offender confesses.
Hadith 6683
(وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) قَالَ خَطَبَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ وَفِي لَفْظٍ خَطَبَنَا فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ فَذَكَرَ الرَّجْمَ فَقَالَ لَا نُخْدَعَنَّ عَنْهُ فَإِنَّهُ حَدٌّ مِنْ حُدُودِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى أَلَا إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ رَجَمَ وَرَجَمْنَا بَعْدَهُ وَلَوْلَا أَنْ يَقُولَ قَائِلُونَ زَادَ عُمَرُ فِي كِتَابِ اللَّهِ مَا لَيْسَ مِنْهُ لَكَتَبْتُهُ فِي نَاحِيَةٍ مِنَ الْمُصْحَفِ شَهِدَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ وَفُلَانٌ وَفُلَانٌ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ رَجَمَ وَرَجَمْنَا مِنْ بَعْدِهِ أَلَا وَإِنَّهُ سَيَكُونُ مِنْ بَعْدِكُمْ قَوْمٌ يُكَذِّبُونَ بِالرَّجْمِ وَبِالدَّجَّالِ وَبِالشَّفَاعَةِ وَبِعَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ وَبِقَوْمٍ يُخْرَجُونَ مِنَ النَّارِ بَعْدَ مَا امْتَحَشُوا
(Second chain) Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) addressed us, praised Allah Almighty, and then mentioned stoning (rajm), saying: We should not be deceived in this matter; indeed, it is one of the limits set by Allah. Beware! The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) carried out stoning, and after him, we also carried out stoning. If I did not fear that someone would say that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) has added to the Book of Allah Almighty, I would have written the verse of stoning on the margin of the Holy Qur’an. Sayyiduna Umar ibn al-Khattab, Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman ibn Awf (may Allah be pleased with them both), and so-and-so and so-and-so bear witness that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) carried out stoning, and after him, we also carried out stoning. Beware! After you, there will be some people who will deny stoning, the Dajjal, intercession, and the punishment of the grave, and according to the hadith, some people will be taken out of Hell after being scorched; these people will also deny this incident.
Hadith 6684
عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ إِنَّ الرَّجْمَ سُنَّةٌ مِنْ سُنَنِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقَدْ كَانَتْ نَزَلَتْ آيَةُ الرَّجْمِ فَهَلَكَ مَنْ كَانَ يَقْرَؤُهَا وَآيًا مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ بِالْيَمَامَةِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: Stoning to death is one of the Sunnahs of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the verse of stoning was also revealed. Those who used to recite it and other verses of the Qur'an were martyred in Yamama.
