باب اسْتِحْبَابِ قَتْلِ الْوَزْعَ وَتَوَابِ قَاتِلِهِ
Chapter: Recommendation to kill the gecko and the reward for its killer
Hadith 6502
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((مَنْ قَتَلَ الْوَزَغَ فِي الضَّرْبَةِ الْأُولَى فَلَهُ كَذَا وَكَذَا مِنْ حَسَنَةٍ، وَمَنْ قَتَلَهُ فِي الثَّانِيَةِ فَلَهُ كَذَا وَكَذَا مِنْ حَسَنَةٍ، وَمَنْ قَتَلَهُ فِي الثَّالِثَةِ فَلَهُ كَذَا وَكَذَا)) قَالَ سُهَيْلٌ: الْأُولَى أَكْثَرُ
Narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever kills a lizard with the first strike will receive such and such rewards, whoever kills it with the second strike will receive such and such rewards, and whoever kills it with the third strike will receive such and such rewards. Suhail says: The first strike carries the greatest reward.
Hadith 6503
عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ: أَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ بِقَتْلِ الْوَزَغِ وَسَمَّاهُ فُوَيْسِقًا
Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered the killing of the lizard and declared it to be harmful and sinful.
Hadith 6504
عَنْ سَائِبَةَ مَوْلَاةٍ لِلْفَاكِهِ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ أَنَّهَا دَخَلَتْ عَلَى عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا فَرَأَتْ فِي بَيْتِهَا رُمْحًا مَوْضُوعًا، فَقَالَتْ: يَا أُمَّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ! مَاذَا تَصْنَعِينَ بِهَذَا الرُّمْحِ؟ قَالَتْ: هَذَا لِهَذِهِ الْأَوْزَاغِ، نَقْتُلُهُنَّ بِهِ فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَدَّثَنَا أَنَّ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَلَيْهِ الصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ حِينَ أُلْقِيَ فِي النَّارِ لَمْ تَكُنْ فِي الْأَرْضِ دَابَّةٌ إِلَّا تُطْفِئُ النَّارَ عَنْهُ غَيْرَ الْوَزَغِ كَانَ يَنْفَخُ عَلَيْهِ فَأَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِقَتْلِهِ
It is narrated from Saibah, the freed slave woman of Fakah bin Mughira, that she went to Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) and saw a spear in her house and asked about it: O Mother of the Believers! What do you do with this spear? She said: We kill these lizards with it, because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) told us that when Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was thrown into the fire, every animal on the face of the earth tried to extinguish the fire, except for this lizard, which blew on the fire. Therefore, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us to kill it.
Hadith 6505
عَنْ عُرْوَةَ أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ أَخْبَرَتْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لِلْوَزَغِ: ((فُوَيْسِقٌ)) وَلَمْ أَسْمَعْهُ أَمَرَ بِقَتْلِهِ
Urwah narrates that Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) informed him that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) considered the lizard to be a harmful and wicked animal, but she did not hear any such hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in which he ordered it to be killed.
Hadith 6506
عَنْ نَافِعٍ مَوْلَى ابْنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا أَخْبَرَتْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ((اقْتُلُوا الْوَزَغَ فَإِنَّهُ كَانَ يَنْفَخُ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ النَّارَ)) قَالَ: وَكَانَتْ عَائِشَةُ تَقْتُلُهُنَّ
Mawla Ibn Umar narrates from Imam Nafi that Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) reports that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Kill the lizard, for it used to blow on the fire that was set for Ibrahim (peace be upon him)." Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) herself used to kill lizards.
Hadith 6507
عَنِ ابْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ أَنَّ أُمَّ شَرِيكٍ أَخْبَرَتْهُ أَنَّهَا اسْتَأْمَرَتِ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَتْلَ الْوَزَغَاتِ فَأَمَرَهَا بِقَتْلِ الْوَزَغَاتِ
Saeed bin Musayyib narrates that Sayyida Umm Shuraik (may Allah be pleased with her) reports that she asked the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about the command regarding killing lizards, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed her to kill lizards.
