بَابُ وَعِيدِ مَنْ قَتَلَ نَفْسَهُ بِأَيِّ شَيْءٍ كَانَ
Chapter: Warning to one who kills himself by any means
Hadith 6470
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((مَنْ قَتَلَ نَفْسَهُ بِحَدِيدَةٍ فَحَدِيدَتُهُ بِيَدِهِ يَجَأُ بِهَا فِي بَطْنِهِ فِي نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ خَالِدًا مُخَلَّدًا فِيهَا أَبَدًا، وَمَنْ قَتَلَ نَفْسَهُ بِسَمٍّ فَسَمُّهُ بِيَدِهِ يَتَحَسَّاهُ فِي نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ خَالِدًا مُخَلَّدًا فِيهَا أَبَدًا، وَمَنْ تَرَدَّى مِنْ جَبَلٍ فَقَتَلَ نَفْسَهُ فَهُوَ يَتَرَدَّى فِي نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ خَالِدًا مُخَلَّدًا فِيهَا أَبَدًا))
Narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever commits suicide with an iron weapon, then that iron will be in his hand and he will keep striking it into his belly forever and ever in the fire of Hell. Whoever commits suicide with poison, then that poison will be in his hand and he will keep drinking it forever and ever in the fire of Hell. And whoever commits suicide by falling from a mountain, then he will keep falling from the mountain forever and ever in the fire of Hell.
Hadith 6471
وَعَنْهُ أَيْضًا عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ الَّذِي يَطْعَنُ نَفْسَهُ إِنَّمَا يَطْعَنُهَا فِي النَّارِ وَالَّذِي يَتَقَحَّمُ فِيهَا يَتَقَحَّمُ فِي النَّارِ وَالَّذِي يَخْنُقُ نَفْسَهُ يَخْنُقُهَا فِي النَّارِ
Narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him): The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever kills himself with a spear, he will keep stabbing himself with it in Hellfire; whoever commits suicide by throwing himself into the fire, he will keep plunging into it in the Fire; and whoever strangles himself, he will keep strangling himself in Hell.
Hadith 6472
عَنْ ثَابِتِ بْنِ الضَّحَّاكِ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ مَنْ قَتَلَ نَفْسَهُ بِشَيْءٍ عَذَّبَهُ اللَّهُ بِهِ فِي نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ
Narrated by Sayyiduna Thabit bin Dhahak Ansari, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever commits suicide with anything, Allah Almighty will punish him in the Fire of Hell with that very thing.
Hadith 6473
عَنْ جُنْدُبِ بْنِ الْبَجَلِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَصَابَتْهُ جِرَاحَةٌ فَحُمِلَ إِلَى بَيْتِهِ فَآلَمَتْهُ جِرَاحَتُهُ فَاسْتَخْرَجَ سَهْمًا مِنْ كِنَانَتِهِ فَطَعَنَ بِهِ فِي لَبَّتِهِ فَذَكَرُوا ذَلِكَ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ فِيمَا يَرْوِي عَنْ رَبِّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ سَابَقَنِي بِنَفْسِهِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jundub Bajli, may Allah be pleased with him, that a man was wounded, he was brought home, his wounds made him restless, and he took an arrow from his quiver and pierced it into his throat. When people mentioned this to the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, he narrated from Allah Almighty, saying: My servant has hastened with regard to his soul ahead of Me.
Hadith 6474
عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ مَاتَ رَجُلٌ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَتَاهُ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَاتَ فُلَانٌ قَالَ لَمْ يَمُتْ ثُمَّ أَتَاهُ الثَّانِيَةَ ثُمَّ الثَّالِثَةَ فَأَخْبَرَهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَيْفَ مَاتَ قَالَ نَحَرَ نَفْسَهُ بِمِشْقَصٍ قَالَ فَلَمْ يُصَلِّ عَلَيْهِ وَفِي لَفْظٍ قَالَ إِذًا لَا أُصَلِّي عَلَيْهِ
Narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him): In the time of the Messenger of Allah, a man died. A person came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! So-and-so has died. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: He has not died yet. Then that person came a second time and then a third time and said the same thing. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: How did he die? He said: He killed himself by stabbing himself with a spear. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not perform his funeral prayer. In another narration, it is stated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then I will not perform his funeral prayer.
Hadith 6475
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَامِرِ بْنِ زُرَارَةَ حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكٌ عَنْ سِمَاكٍ يَعْنِي ابْنَ حَرْبٍ
Another chain of narration for the aforementioned hadith has been mentioned.
Hadith 6476
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَامِرِ بْنِ زُرَارَةَ ثَنَا شَرِيكٌ عَنْ سِمَاكٍ يَعْنِي ابْنَ حَرْبٍ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَجُلًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ جُرِحَ فَآذَتْهُ الْجِرَاحَةُ فَدَبَّ إِلَى مَشَاقِصَ فَذَبَحَ بِهَا نَفْسَهُ فَلَمْ يُصَلِّ عَلَيْهِ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقَالَ كُلُّ ذَلِكَ أَدَبٌ مِنْهُ هَكَذَا أَمْلَاهُ عَلَيْنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَامِرٍ مِنْ كِتَابِهِ وَلَا أَحْسِبُ هَذِهِ الزِّيَادَةَ إِلَّا مِنْ قَوْلِ شَرِيكٍ قَوْلُهُ ذَلِكَ أَدَبٌ مِنْهُ
Narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that one of the companions of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was wounded, and the wound caused him such pain that he crawled to his arrows and slaughtered himself. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not perform his funeral prayer. The Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) not performing the funeral prayer was a disciplinary action. Abdullah bin Amir dictated it to us in this way, but I think that this disciplinary aspect is the statement of Sharik.
Hadith 6477
عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ أَخْبَرَهُ بَعْضُ مَنْ شَهِدَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِخَيْبَرَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لِرَجُلٍ مِمَّنْ مَعَهُ إِنَّ هَذَا لَمِنْ أَهْلِ النَّارِ فَلَمَّا حَضَرَ الْقِتَالُ قَاتَلَ الرَّجُلُ أَشَدَّ الْقِتَالِ حَتَّى كَثُرَتْ بِهِ الْجِرَاحُ فَأَتَاهُ رِجَالٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَرَأَيْتَ الرَّجُلَ الَّذِي ذَكَرْتَ أَنَّهُ مِنْ أَهْلِ النَّارِ فَقَدْ وَاللَّهِ قَاتَلَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ أَشَدَّ الْقِتَالِ وَكَثُرَتْ بِهِ الْجِرَاحُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمَا إِنَّهُ مِنْ أَهْلِ النَّارِ وَكَادَ بَعْضُ الصَّحَابَةِ أَنْ يَرْتَابَ فَبَيْنَمَا هُمْ عَلَى ذَلِكَ وَجَدَ الرَّجُلُ أَلَمَ الْجِرَاحِ فَأَهْوَى بِيَدِهِ إِلَى كِنَانَتِهِ فَانْتَزَعَ مِنْهَا سَهْمًا فَانْتَحَرَ بِهِ فَاشْتَدَّ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ قَدْ صَدَقَ اللَّهُ حَدِيثَكَ قَدِ انْتَحَرَ فُلَانٌ فَقَتَلَ نَفْسَهُ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ka‘b bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that a Companion who participated in Khaybar stated that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said about a man who was with him that this man is among the people of Hell. But when the battle began, this man fought with great valor and received many wounds. Some Companions came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! The man about whom you said that he is among the people of Hell, by Allah, he fought an excellent battle and has received many wounds. But the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) repeated the same statement that this person is among the people of Hell. This could have caused some Companions to fall into doubt regarding their religion, but meanwhile, that man felt the pain of his wounds, reached his hand towards his quiver, took out an arrow from it, and killed himself. A Muslim ran to the service of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Prophet of Allah! Allah has made your statement true; that man has killed himself by committing suicide.
