بابُ فِي أَنَّ الْأَنْبِيَاءَ علیہم السلام لِيْ لَا يُورَثُونَ
Chapter: That the Prophets (peace be upon them) do not leave inheritance
Hadith 6347
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّا مَعْشَرَ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ لَا نُورَثُ مَا تَرَكْتُ بَعْدَ مَؤُونَةِ عَامِلِي وَنَفَقَةِ نِسَائِي صَدَقَةٌ
Narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: We, the group of Prophets, have no heirs; whatever I leave after the expenses of my workers and wives will be charity.
Hadith 6348
(وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا يَقْتَسِمُ وَرَثَتِي دِينَارًا وَفِي لَفْظٍ وَلَا دِرْهَمًا مَا تَرَكْتُهُ بَعْدَ نَفَقَةِ نِسَائِي وَمَؤُونَةِ عَامِلِي يَعْنِي عَامِلَ أَرْضِهِ فَهُوَ صَدَقَةٌ
(Second chain) The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: My heirs cannot inherit from my estate in the form of dinars and dirhams; whatever I leave behind after providing for my wives and the workers of my land, it will be charity.
Hadith 6349
عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ أَنَّ فَاطِمَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ لِأَبِي بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ مَنْ يَرِثُكَ إِذَا مِتَّ قَالَ وَلَدِي وَأَهْلِي قَالَتْ فَمَا لَنَا لَا نَرِثُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ لَا يُورَثُ وَلَكِنِّي أَعُولُ مَنْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَعُولُ وَأُنْفِقُ عَلَى مَنْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُنْفِقُ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Salamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) asked Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him): When you pass away, who will be your heir? He replied: My children and my wife. Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Then why can we not inherit from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)? He replied: Because the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said that indeed, a prophet is not inherited from. However, I (Abu Bakr) will take care of those whom the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to take care of, and I will spend on everyone upon whom the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to spend.
Hadith 6350
عَنْ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا أَنَّ أَزْوَاجَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ تُوُفِّيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَرَدْنَ أَنْ يُرْسِلْنَ عُثْمَانَ إِلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ يَسْأَلْنَهُ مِيرَاثَهُنَّ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَتْ لَهُنَّ عَائِشَةُ أَوَلَيْسَ قَدْ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا نُورَثُ مَا تَرَكْنَاهُ فَهُوَ صَدَقَةٌ
Narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), she said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away, his pure wives wanted to send Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), so that he could demand their inheritance from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said to them: Do you not know that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said that we do not have heirs; whatever we leave behind is charity.
Hadith 6351
عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ أَوْسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَقُولُ لِعَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ وَطَلْحَةَ وَالزُّبَيْرِ وَسَعْدٍ نَشَدْتُكُمْ بِاللَّهِ الَّذِي تَقُومُ السَّمَاءُ وَالْأَرْضُ بِهِ أَعَلِمْتُمْ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِنَّا لَا نُورَثُ مَا تَرَكْنَا صَدَقَةٌ قَالُوا اللَّهُمَّ نَعَمْ
Sayyiduna Malik bin Aws (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I heard that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) addressed Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Awf, Sayyiduna Talha, Sayyiduna Zubair, and Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with them) and said: I ask you by Allah, by whose command the heavens and the earth stand firm, do you know that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said that we do not leave inheritance; whatever we leave behind is charity. All of them said: Yes, we have heard this.
