Hadith 6290
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar and Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is not lawful for a man to give a gift and then take it back, except for a father regarding what he gives to his child as a gift. The example of a person who gives a gift and then takes it back is like a dog that eats something, and when it is full, it vomits, and then starts licking its vomit.

Narrated by Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The one who takes back a gift is like a person who starts licking his own vomit. Imam Qatadah said: In my opinion, vomit is forbidden.

Narrated by Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No person can take back what he has given as a gift, except a father who can take back from his child. Hadith 6295
It is narrated from Imam Tawoos, he says: When we were children, we used to say that the one who takes back his gift is like the dog who vomits and then starts licking it, and we did not know that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, had given any example about this, until one day Abdullah bin Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, narrated before us that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The one who takes back his gift is like the dog who vomits and then starts licking it.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The example of the person who takes back a gift he has given is like that of a dog who vomits and then licks it up. When the giver of a gift demands its return, he should be made to stand and asked the reason for taking it back, and then the thing he had given as a gift should be returned to him.
