3 hadith
Hadith 6279
It is narrated from Sayyiduna ‘Iraq bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Hakim bin Hizam (may Allah be pleased with him) said: In the era of ignorance, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was the most beloved of all people to me. But when he (peace and blessings be upon him) claimed prophethood and migrated to Madinah Munawwarah, Hakim bin Hizam (may Allah be pleased with him) participated in Hajj, but he was still a disbeliever at that time. He saw that a robe of Dhi Yazan was being sold, so Hakim bought it with the intention of presenting it as a gift to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Thus, he brought it to Madinah Munawwarah, intending to present it as a gift to him (peace and blessings be upon him), but he (peace and blessings be upon him) refused to accept it. The narrator, ‘Ubaydullah, says: I think that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: We do not accept gifts from polytheists, but if you wish, we can buy it from you for its price. So, when he (peace and blessings be upon him) refused to accept it as a gift, I gave it for its price.

Hadith 6280
Hasan Basri narrates that there was an acquaintance between Iyad bin Hammad Mujashi'i and the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) before the Prophethood. Then, when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was granted Prophethood, Iyad presented a gift to him. I think it was in the form of a camel, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) refused to accept it and said: We do not accept gifts from polytheists. Ibn Awn said: What is meant by the zabad of polytheists? Hasan Basri said: Their gifts and offerings.

Sayyiduna Dhu’l-Jawshan says: When the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) returned from the Battle of Badr, I came to him and said: O Muhammad! I have brought for you the foal of a mare, which has a little whiteness on its face, so that you may accept it as a gift. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I have no need of it, but if you wish, I can give you the fine armors of Badr in exchange for it. He said: No, I would not even take a slave girl for it today. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then I have no need of it. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Dhu’l-Jawshan! Will you not accept Islam, so that you may be among the first people of this religion? He said: No, I will not do so. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Why, what is the reason for this? I said: I see that your people (the Quraysh) are still fighting you, (it is not clear what the outcome will be). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Have you not heard of their destruction at Badr? He said: Yes, I have heard of that. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: We will clarify for you. He said: If you overcome the Ka‘bah and make it your abode, then it will be something. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If you live, you will see this with your own eyes. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Bilal! Take this man’s provision bag and fill it with ‘ajwah dates and give it to him. Sayyiduna Dhu’l-Jawshan says: When I returned from the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: Beware! This is the best horseman of Banu ‘Amir. Sayyiduna Dhu’l-Jawshan says: (After a long time had passed) I saw a rider coming towards me, while I was at that time in a lowland (in Yemen) with my family. I said: Where have you come from? He said: From Makkah. I said: What happened to the people? He said: Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) has overcome Makkah. I said: May my mother lose me! If I had become Muslim that day and asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for Hira, he would have given it to me.
