Section: The story of Arwa bint Uwais and Sayyiduna Sa’id ibn Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him)
Hadith 6202
عَنْ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ أَتَتْنِي أَرْوَى بِنْتُ أُوَيْسٍ فِي نَفَرٍ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ فِيهِمْ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ سَهْلٍ فَقَالَتْ إِنَّ سَعِيدَ بْنَ زَيْدٍ قَدِ انْتَقَصَ مِنْ أَرْضِي إِلَى أَرْضِهِ مَا لَيْسَ لَهُ وَقَدْ أَحْبَبْتُ أَنْ تَأْتُوهُ فَتُكَلِّمُوهُ قَالَ فَرَكِبْنَا إِلَيْهِ وَهُوَ فِي أَرْضِهِ بِالْعَقِيقِ فَلَمَّا رَآنَا قَالَ قَدْ عَرَفْتُ الَّذِي جَاءَ بِكُمْ وَسَأُحَدِّثُكُمْ مَا سَمِعْتُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ مَنْ أَخَذَ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ مَا لَيْسَ لَهُ طُوِّقَهُ إِلَى السَّابِعَةِ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَمَنْ قُتِلَ دُونَ مَالِهِ فَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ وَفِي لَفْظٍ وَمَنْ ظَلَمَ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ شِبْرًا طُوِّقَهُ مِنْ سَبْعِ أَرَضِينَ وَفِي لَفْظٍ إِلَى سَبْعِ أَرَضِينَ
Talha bin Abdullah bin Awf narrates: He says, Arwa bint Uwais came to me with a delegation of the Quraysh, in which Abdur Rahman bin Sahal was also present. That woman said: Sayyiduna Saeed bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) has included a part of my land into his own land, which in fact was not his. Now I want you to go to him and talk to him about this matter. Talha says: We mounted and went to him at the place of Aqeeq, where his land was. When he saw us, he said: I know the purpose of your coming. Let me narrate to you the hadith which I heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever seizes a piece of land that does not belong to him, Allah Almighty will put a collar of seven earths around his neck on the Day of Resurrection. And whoever is killed while protecting his wealth is a martyr.
Hadith 6203
عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ لَنَا مَرْوَانُ انْطَلِقُوا فَأَصْلِحُوا بَيْنَ هَذَيْنِ سَعِيدِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ وَأَرْوَى بِنْتِ أُوَيْسٍ فَأَتَيْنَا سَعِيدَ بْنَ زَيْدٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَقَالَ أَتَرَوْنَ أَنِّي قَدِ اسْتَنْقَصْتُ مِنْ حَقِّهَا شَيْئًا أَشْهَدُ لَسَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ مَنْ أَخَذَ وَفِي لَفْظٍ مَنْ سَرَقَ شِبْرًا مِنَ الْأَرْضِ بِغَيْرِ حَقِّهِ طُوِّقَهُ مِنْ سَبْعِ أَرَضِينَ وَمَنْ تَوَلَّى قَوْمًا بِغَيْرِ إِذْنِهِمْ فَعَلَيْهِ لَعْنَةُ اللَّهِ وَمَنِ اقْتَطَعَ مَالَ أَخِيهِ بِيَمِينِهِ فَلَا بَارَكَ اللَّهُ لَهُ فِيهِ
Abu Salamah narrates that he says: Marwan told us to go and reconcile between Sayyiduna Sa'id bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) and Arwa bint Uwais. When we reached Sayyiduna Sa'id bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him), he said to us: What do you think, have I usurped Arwa's share of the land? I myself heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say that whoever seizes or steals even a span of someone else's land without right, a collar from seven earths will be put around his neck, and whoever appoints a leader over a people without their permission, the curse of Allah will be upon him, and whoever seizes his brother's wealth through an oath, Allah will not bless it for him.
