Narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man passed away, so we bathed him and applied perfume to him. Then we took him to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) so that he (peace and blessings be upon him) could perform his funeral prayer. We said to him (peace and blessings be upon him) that you should perform his funeral prayer. He (peace and blessings be upon him) walked a few steps and then stopped and said: "Does he have any debt?" We said: "Yes, two dinars." Upon hearing this, he (peace and blessings be upon him) turned back. Then Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) took responsibility for their payment, and we again presented ourselves before him (peace and blessings be upon him) and said that Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) has taken responsibility for the two dinars. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Will the creditor now demand this right from you, and is the deceased now free from it?" Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Yes." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) performed his funeral prayer. After one day, he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "What happened to the dinars?" Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "He only passed away yesterday." Then he returned and on the next day, after paying them, said: "O Messenger of Allah! I have paid them." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Now his skin has cooled."
