بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي التَّسْعِيرِ
Chapter: What has been reported regarding price fixing
Hadith 5945
عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ غَلَا السِّعْرُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ لَوْ سَعَّرْتَ فَقَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ الْخَالِقُ الْقَابِضُ الْبَاسِطُ الرَّزَّاقُ الْمُسَعِّرُ وَإِنِّي لَأَرْجُو أَنْ أَلْقَى اللَّهَ وَلَا يَطْلُبُنِي أَحَدٌ بِمَظْلِمَةٍ ظَلَمْتُهَا إِيَّاهُ فِي دَمٍ وَلَا مَالٍ
Narrated by Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him): Once during the time of the Prophet, the prices of things increased. The people said: O Messenger of Allah! If you would fix the prices for us. But the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Indeed, it is Allah Almighty who is the Creator, the One who decreases, the One who increases, the One who gives abundance, the Provider, and the One who raises the prices. I hope from Allah Almighty that when I meet Him, there will be no one who will demand from me any right regarding blood or wealth.
Hadith 5946
عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ غَلَا السِّعْرُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالُوا لَهُ لَوْ قَوَّمْتَ لَنَا سِعْرَنَا فَقَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ الْمُقَوِّمُ أَوِ الْمُسَعِّرُ إِنِّي لَأَرْجُو أَنْ أُفَارِقَكُمْ وَلَيْسَ أَحَدٌ مِنْكُمْ يَطْلُبُنِي بِمَظْلِمَةٍ فِي مَالٍ وَلَا نَفْسٍ
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that once during the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the prices of goods increased. The people said to him: "Please fix the prices for us." But the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is Allah Almighty who sets the prices or raises the prices. I only hope that when I depart from you, none of you will have any claim against me regarding his wealth or life."
Hadith 5947
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَجُلًا قَالَ سَعِّرْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ إِنَّمَا يَرْفَعُ اللَّهُ وَيَخْفِضُ إِنِّي لَأَرْجُو أَنْ أَلْقَى اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَلَيْسَ لِأَحَدٍ عِنْدِي مَظْلِمَةٌ قَالَ آخَرُ سَعِّرْ فَقَالَ ادْعُوا اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man said: O Messenger of Allah! Fix the prices. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is only Allah Almighty who raises and lowers the prices. I hope to meet Allah Almighty in such a state that I have not wronged anyone. When another person also said the same thing, asking you to fix the prices, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Call upon Allah Almighty (and pray to Him).
Hadith 5948
عَنِ الْحَسَنِ يَعْنِي الْبَصْرِيَّ قَالَ ثَقُلَ مَعْقِلُ بْنُ يَسَارٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَدَخَلَ إِلَيْهِ عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ يَعُودُهُ فَقَالَ هَلْ تَعْلَمُ يَا مَعْقِلُ أَنِّي سَفَكْتُ دَمًا قَالَ مَا عَلِمْتُ قَالَ هَلْ تَعْلَمُ أَنِّي دَخَلْتُ فِي شَيْءٍ مِنْ أَسْعَارِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ قَالَ مَا عَلِمْتُ قَالَ أَجْلِسُونِي ثُمَّ قَالَ اسْمَعْ يَا عُبَيْدَ اللَّهِ حَتَّى أُحَدِّثَكَ شَيْئًا لَمْ أَسْمَعْهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَرَّةً وَلَا مَرَّتَيْنِ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ مَنْ دَخَلَ فِي شَيْءٍ مِنْ أَسْعَارِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ لِيُغْلِيَهُ عَلَيْهِمْ فَإِنَّ حَقًّا عَلَى اللَّهِ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى أَنْ يُقْعِدَهُ بِعُظْمٍ مِنَ النَّارِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ قَالَ أَنْتَ سَمِعْتَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ نَعَمْ غَيْرَ مَرَّةٍ وَلَا مَرَّتَيْنِ
It is narrated from Hasan Basri that when Sayyiduna Ma'qil bin Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him) became heavy due to illness, Ubaydullah bin Ziyad came to him to visit and said: O Ma'qil! Have I committed bloodshed? He replied: I do not know. He then said: Do you know if I have interfered in the prices of the Muslims in any way? He replied: No, I do not know. Then Sayyiduna Ma'qil (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Lift me up and make me sit. Then he addressed Ubaydullah and said: I will narrate to you a hadith which I have not heard once or twice from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), (but have heard many times). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever interferes in the prices of the Muslims and makes it expensive for them, it is incumbent upon Allah to seat him in a vast place of fire on the Day of Resurrection. Ubaydullah said: Did you hear this from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? He replied: Yes, many times, not just once or twice.
