Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not go out to meet the caravans bringing merchandise (before they reach the market or bazaar), and do not withhold the milk of goats and she-camels for sale. So, whoever buys such an animal will have the choice of two things: if he wishes, he may keep the animal with him, and if he wishes, he may return it, but he must also return a sa’ (measure) of dates along with it, not of wheat.
(Second chain) The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever buys a she-camel or a goat whose milk has been withheld, then he has the choice of two options: either he keeps it in his possession or returns it, but along with it, he must also give a vessel (of grain) equal to a sa’.
It is narrated from a Companion that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not meet the caravan bringing trade goods on the way, nor should a townsman sell goods on behalf of a villager. And whoever buys a goat or she-camel whose milk has been withheld, after milking it he will have two options: if he wishes to return it, he must also return one sa’ of grain or dates along with it.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Whoever buys a goat whose milk has been withheld, he (if he wishes) may return it, but along with it he should also return one sa’ (measure), and the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade meeting caravans on the way.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), who is truthful and trusted, said: Selling animals whose milk has been withheld is deception, and it is not lawful for a Muslim to deceive.
