Hadith 5888
عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَهُ يَا عُثْمَانُ إِذَا اشْتَرَيْتَ فَاكْتَلْ وَإِذَا بِعْتَ فَكِلْ
Narrated from Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Uthman! When you buy something, measure it, and when you sell something, measure it as well.
Hadith 5889
عَنْ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ قَالَ جَلَبْتُ أَنَا وَمَخْرَمَةُ الْعَبْدِيُّ ثِيَابًا مِنْ هَجَرَ قَالَ فَأَتَانَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَسَاوَمَنَا فِي سَرَاوِيلَ وَعِنْدَنَا وَزَّانُونَ يَزِنُونَ بِالْأُجْرَةِ فَقَالَ لِلْوَزَّانِ زِنْ وَأَرْجِحْ
Sayyiduna Suwaid bin Qais says: I and Makhramah ‘Abdi brought cloth from the region of Hajar. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, came to us and bargained with us for trousers, while there were also people present with us who weighed goods for a wage. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to one of the weighers: Weigh it, and add a little extra.
Hadith 5890
عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ أَبِي صَفْوَانَ بْنِ عُمَيْرَةَ قَالَ بِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ رِجْلَ سَرَاوِيلَ قَبْلَ الْهِجْرَةِ فَأَرْجَحَ لِي
Sayyiduna Abu Safwan Malik bin Umairah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Before the Hijrah, I bought trousers from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and while weighing it, he (peace and blessings be upon him) tilted the scale in my favor.
Hadith 5891
عَنِ الْمِقْدَامِ بْنِ مَعْدِيكَرِبَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كِيلُوا طَعَامَكُمْ يُبَارَكْ لَكُمْ فِيهِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Miqdam bin Ma'dikarib (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Measure your grain, for there will be blessing in it for you.
Hadith 5892
عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِثْلَهُ
Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) has also narrated a hadith of the same kind.
Hadith 5893
عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يُتَلَقَّى الرُّكْبَانُ أَوْ يَبِيعَ حَاضِرٌ لِبَادٍ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) forbade meeting trade caravans on the way and forbade a townsman from buying and selling on behalf of a villager.
Hadith 5894
عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَى عَنْ تَلَقِّي السِّلَعِ حَتَّى تُهْبَطَ بِهَا وَفِي لَفْظٍ حَتَّى تَدْخُلَ الْأَسْوَاقَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) forbade meeting traders on the way (before they reach the market). However, when their goods reach the markets, then trading is permissible.
Hadith 5895
عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ حَدَّثَهُمْ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَبْعَثُ عَلَيْهِمْ إِذَا ابْتَاعُوا مِنَ الرُّكْبَانِ الْأَطْعِمَةَ مَنْ يَمْنَعُهُمْ أَنْ يَتَبَايَعُوهَا حَتَّى يُؤْوُوهَا إِلَى رِحَالِهِمْ
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that when people used to buy grain from caravans, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would send (his representatives) to the buyers, who would prohibit them from selling that commodity further until they had brought it to their own places.
Hadith 5896
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا يَسُمِ الرَّجُلُ عَلَى سَوْمِ أَخِيهِ وَلَا يَبِيعْ حَاضِرٌ لِبَادٍ دَعُوا النَّاسَ يَرْزُقُ اللَّهُ بَعْضَهُمْ مِنْ بَعْضٍ وَلَا تَشْتَرِطُ امْرَأَةٌ طَلَاقَ أُخْتِهَا
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: A man should not make a deal over his brother’s deal, nor should a townsman sell the goods of a villager. Leave people in their state; Allah provides sustenance to some through others. And no woman should demand the divorce of her sister.
Hadith 5897
عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا يَبِيعْ حَاضِرٌ لِبَادٍ دَعُوا النَّاسَ يَرْزُقُ اللَّهُ بَعْضَهُمْ مِنْ بَعْضٍ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: A townsman should not sell for a villager; leave people to their own state, Allah Almighty provides sustenance to some through others.
Hadith 5898
عَنْ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ مِنْ حَدِيثٍ طَوِيلٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ نَهَى أَنْ يَبِيعَ حَاضِرٌ لِبَادٍ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Talha bin Ubaidullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade that a townsman should trade on behalf of a villager. This is a lengthy hadith.
Hadith 5899
عَنْ سَمُرَةَ بْنِ جُنْدُبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَى أَنْ تُتَلَقَّى الْأَجْلَابُ حَتَّى تَبْلُغَ الْأَسْوَاقَ أَوْ يَبِيعَ حَاضِرٌ لِبَادٍ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade meeting traders before they reach the markets and that a townsman should sell goods on behalf of a villager.
Hadith 5900
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يُتَلَقَّى الْجَلَبُ فَإِنِ ابْتَاعَ مُبْتَاعٌ فَصَاحِبُ السِّلْعَةِ بِالْخِيَارِ إِذَا وَرَدَتِ السُّوقَ
Narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) forbade meeting the caravans bringing merchandise. If someone buys goods from them, then when those goods are brought to the market, the owner will have the option to take them back.
Hadith 5901
عَنْ طَاوُوسٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يُتَلَقَّى الرُّكْبَانُ وَأَنْ يَبِيعَ حَاضِرٌ لِبَادٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ مَا قَوْلُهُ حَاضِرٌ لِبَادٍ قَالَ لَا يَكُونُ سِمْسَارًا
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade meeting caravans (ahead on the way) and that a townsman should sell the goods of a villager. Tawus says: I asked Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) what is meant by a townsman not selling the goods of a villager? He said: It means that he should not act as his broker.
