بَاب مَا جَاءَ فِي كَسْبِ الْحَجَامِ وَالْإِمَاءِ وَالْقَصَّابِ وَالصَّائِعَ وَغَيْرِ ذَلِكَ
Chapter: What has been reported regarding the earnings of cuppers, slave women, butchers, beggars, and others
Hadith 5756
عَنْ رَافِعِ بْنِ رِفَاعَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ نَهَانَا نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ كَسْبِ الْحَجَّامِ وَأَمَرَنَا أَنْ نُطْعِمَهُ نَوَاضِحَنَا وَنَهَانَا عَنْ كَسْبِ الْإِمَاءِ إِلَّا مَا عَمِلَتْ بِيَدِهَا وَقَالَ هَكَذَا بِأَصَابِعِهِ نَحْوَ الْخُبْزِ وَالْغَزْلِ وَالنَّفْشِ
It is narrated from Rafi' bin Rifa'ah, he says: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade us from the earnings of the cupper, and instructed us that we should feed such earnings to irrigation camels and the like. Also, he (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade us from the earnings of slave-girls, except for what they earn by working with their own hands (that is permissible). Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) gestured with his hand towards making bread, spinning cotton or wool, or carding them.
Hadith 5757
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ كَسْبِ الْإِمَاءِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, forbade earnings from slave girls.
Hadith 5758
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ ثَمَنِ الْكَلْبِ وَكَسْبِ الْحَجَّامِ وَكَسْبِ الْمُومِسَةِ وَعَنْ كَسْبِ عَسْبِ الْفَحْلِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade earnings from slave girls. It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the price of a dog, the earnings of a cupper, the earnings of a prostitute, and the earnings from the mating of a stud bull.
Hadith 5759
عَنْ رَافِعِ بْنِ خَدِيجٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ثَمَنُ الْكَلْبِ خَبِيثٌ وَكَسْبُ الْحَجَّامِ خَبِيثٌ وَمَهْرُ الْبَغِيِّ خَبِيثٌ
Narrated from Sayyiduna Rafi' bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The earnings of a dog are impure, the earnings of a cupper are impure, and the earnings of a prostitute are also impure.
Hadith 5760

Narrated from Sayyiduna Rafi' bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The earnings of a dog are impure, the earnings of a prostitute are also impure, and the earnings of a cupper are impure.
Hadith 5761
عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي سُلَيْمٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَبَايَةَ بْنَ رِفَاعَةَ بْنَ رَافِعِ بْنِ خَدِيجٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يُحَدِّثُ أَنَّ جَدَّهُ حِينَ مَاتَ تَرَكَ جَارِيَةً وَنَاضِحًا وَغُلَامًا حَجَّامًا وَأَرْضًا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْجَارِيَةِ فَنَهَى عَنْ كَسْبِهَا قَالَ شُعْبَةُ مَخَافَةَ أَنْ تَبْغِيَ وَقَالَ مَا أَصَابَ الْحَجَّامُ فَاعْلِفُوهُ النَّاضِحَ وَقَالَ فِي الْأَرْضِ ازْرَعْهَا أَوْ ذَرْهَا
‘Ubayah bin Rifa’ah narrates that when his grandfather passed away, he left behind a slave girl, an animal for irrigating the fields, a slave who did cupping, and some land. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade taking earnings from the slave girl out of fear that she might start committing adultery. Regarding the slave, he said: Whatever the cupper earns, feed it to the irrigation animal such as a camel, etc. And regarding the land, he said: Either cultivate it yourself or leave it.
Hadith 5762
عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ سُئِلَ عَنْ كَسْبِ الْحَجَّامِ فَقَالَ اعْلِفْهُ نَاضِحَكَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about the earnings of the one who performs cupping. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Feed his earnings as fodder to the animal that irrigates the fields.
Hadith 5763
عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ قَدْ أَعْطَيْتُ خَالَتِي غُلَامًا وَأَنَا أَرْجُو أَنْ يُبَارَكَ اللَّهُ لَهَا فِيهِ وَقَدْ نَهَيْتُهَا أَنْ تَجْعَلَهُ حَجَّامًا أَوْ قَصَّابًا أَوْ صَائِغًا
Narrated from Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I gave a slave to my maternal aunt, and I hope that Allah Almighty will make him a source of blessing for her. And I told my aunt not to make him a cupper, a butcher, or a goldsmith.
Hadith 5764
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِنَّ أَكْذَبَ النَّاسِ الصَّوَّاغُونَ وَالصَّبَّاغُونَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Among the people, the greatest liars are goldsmiths and dyers.
Hadith 5765
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ أَكْذَبُ النَّاسِ الصُّنَّاعُ
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Among the people, the most deceitful are craftsmen and skilled workers.
Hadith 5766
عَنْ حَرَامِ بْنِ سَاعِدَةَ بْنِ مُحَيِّصَةَ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ كَانَ لَهُ غُلَامٌ حَجَّامٌ يُقَالُ لَهُ أَبُو طَيْبَةَ يَكْسِبُ كَسْبًا كَثِيرًا فَلَمَّا نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ كَسْبِ الْحَجَّامِ اسْتَرْخَصَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِيهِ فَأَبَى فَلَمْ يَزَلْ يُكَلِّمُهُ فِيهِ وَيَذْكُرُ لَهُ الْحَاجَةَ حَتَّى قَالَ لَهُ لِتُلْقِ كَسْبَهُ فِي بَطْنِ نَاضِحِكَ وَفِي لَفْظٍ اعْلِفْهُ نَاضِحَكَ وَأَطْعِمْهُ رَقِيقَكَ وَفِي لَفْظٍ فَزَجَرَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ أَفَلَا أَطْعَمُهُ يَتَامَى لِي قَالَ لَا قَالَ أَفَلَا أَتَصَدَّقُ بِهِ قَالَ لَا فَرَخَّصَ لَهُ أَنْ يُعْلِفَهُ نَاضِحَهُ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Muheesa bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that he had a slave named Abu Taybah, who used to earn a lot. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade taking the earnings of the cupper, he (Muheesa) sought permission from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding the earnings from cupping, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not grant permission. He kept insisting and mentioning his need, until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Put its earnings into the bellies of your irrigation camels and the like. In another narration: Use it as fodder for your animals and food for your slaves. In another narration: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade him, but he said: Should I not feed this earning to my orphans? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No. He said: Then should I give it in charity? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No. Eventually, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) permitted him to feed it as fodder to the camels that irrigate the land and the like.
Hadith 5767
عَنْ مُحَيِّصَةَ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ كَانَ لَهُ غُلَامٌ حَجَّامٌ يُقَالُ لَهُ نَافِعٌ أَبُو طَيْبَةَ فَانْطَلَقَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَسْأَلُهُ عَنْ خَرَاجِهِ فَقَالَ لَا تَقْرَبْهُ فَرَدَّدَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ اعْلِفْ بِهِ النَّاضِحَ وَاجْعَلْهُ فِي كَرِشِهِ
Syedna Muheesa bin Masood Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) had a slave who used to perform cupping, and he was called Nafi’ Abu Taybah. Syedna Muheesa (may Allah be pleased with him) went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to ask about his earnings. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not go near this earning. He asked again, and this time the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Go, feed it to your watering camel, etc., as fodder, and throw it in its dung.
Hadith 5768
عَنْ عَوْنِ بْنِ أَبِي جُحَيْفَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ اشْتَرَى غُلَامًا حَجَّامًا فَأَمَرَ بِمَحَاجِمِهِ فَكُسِرَتْ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ أَتَكْسِرُهَا قَالَ نَعَمْ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَى عَنْ ثَمَنِ الدَّمِ وَثَمَنِ الْكَلْبِ وَكَسْبِ الْبَغِيِّ وَلَعَنَ آكِلَ الرِّبَا وَمُوكِلَهُ وَالْوَاشِمَةَ وَالْمُسْتَوْشِمَةَ وَلَعَنَ الْمُصَوِّرَ
Awn bin Abi Juhaifah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his father that he bought a slave who performed cupping, then he ordered that the instruments used for cupping be broken, so they were broken. I said to him: Are you breaking them? He replied: Yes! Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the price of blood, the price of a dog, and the earnings of a prostitute, and he cursed the one who consumes and gives usury, the woman who tattoos and the one who gets tattooed, and the image-maker.
Hadith 5769
عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ احْتَجَمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَمَرَنِي أَنْ أُعْطِيَ الْحَجَّامَ أَجْرَهُ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had cupping done and then ordered me to give the cupper his wages.
