بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي اِتِّخَاذِ الْغَنَمِ وَ بَرَكَتِهَا وَرَعِيهَا
Chapter: What has been reported regarding keeping sheep, their blessing, and grazing them
Hadith 5751
عَنْ أُمِّ هَانِئٍ بِنْتِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَ لَهَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ اتَّخِذِي غَنَمًا يَا أُمَّ هَانِئٍ فَإِنَّهَا تَرُوحُ بِخَيْرٍ وَتَغْدُو بِخَيْرٍ
It is narrated from Sayyidah Umm Hani (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her: O Umm Hani! Raise goats, for they return in the evening with goodness and go out in the morning with goodness.
Hadith 5752
عَنْ وَهْبِ بْنِ كَيْسَانَ قَالَ مَرَّ أَبِي عَلَى أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَقَالَ أَيْنَ تُرِيدُ قَالَ غُنَيْمَةً لِي قَالَ نَعَمْ امْسَحْ رُعَامَهَا وَأَطِبْ مُرَاحَهَا وَصَلِّ فِي جَانِبِ مُرَاحِهَا فَإِنَّهَا مِنْ دَوَابِّ الْجَنَّةِ وَانْتَسِئْ بِهَا فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ إِنَّهَا أَرْضٌ قَلِيلَةُ الْمَطْرِ قَالَ يَعْنِي الْمَدِينَةَ
Wahb bin Kaysan says: My father passed by Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), and he asked: Where are you intending to go? He replied: I have some goats (I am going towards them). Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Very well, but keep them clean, make their resting place good, and pray near their resting place, because they are among the animals of Paradise. Also, keep them away from the land of Madinah, because I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say that this land receives little rain.
Hadith 5753
عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُوشِكُ أَنْ يَكُونَ خَيْرَ مَالِ الرَّجُلِ الْمُسْلِمِ غَنَمًا يَتْبَعُ بِهَا شَعَفَ الْجِبَالِ وَمَوَاقِعَ الْقَطْرِ يَفِرُّ بِدِينِهِ مِنَ الْفِتَنِ
Narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It may be that the best wealth for a Muslim man is sheep, which he takes to the tops of mountains and the valleys where rain falls, fleeing with his religion from tribulations.
Hadith 5754
عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَجْنِي الْكَبَاثَ فَقَالَ عَلَيْكُمْ بِالْأَسْوَدِ مِنْهُ فَإِنَّهُ أَطْيَبُهُ قَالَ قُلْنَا وَكُنْتَ تَرْعَى الْغَنَمَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ نَعَمْ وَهَلْ مِنْ نَبِيٍّ إِلَّا قَدْ رَعَاهَا
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both), he says: We were picking the fruit of the pilu tree with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Pick the black-colored ones, they are the best. We said: O Messenger of Allah! Did you also tend sheep? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Yes, in fact, there has not been any prophet who did not tend sheep.
Hadith 5755
عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ افْتَخَرَ أَهْلُ الْإِبِلِ وَالْغَنَمِ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْفَخْرُ وَالْخُيَلَاءُ فِي أَهْلِ الْإِبِلِ وَالسَّكِينَةُ وَالْوَقَارُ فِي أَهْلِ الْغَنَمِ وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ بُعِثَ مُوسَى وَهُوَ يَرْعَى غَنَمًا عَلَى أَهْلِهِ وَبُعِثْتُ أَنَا وَأَنَا أَرْعَى غَنَمًا لِأَهْلِي بِجِيَادٍ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that in the presence of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the owners of camels and goats began to boast to one another. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Pride and arrogance are found among the owners of camels, and tranquility and dignity are found among the owners of goats. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When Musa (peace be upon him) was sent (as a prophet), he used to herd the goats of his people, and when I was sent (as a prophet), I too used to herd goats in Ji'ad.
