Hadith 5681
عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَأْمُرُ بِهَؤُلَاءِ الْخَمْسِ وَيُخْبِرُ بِهِنَّ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْبُخْلِ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْجُبْنِ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أُرَدَّ إِلَى أَرْذَلِ الْعُمُرِ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الدُّنْيَا وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that he used to command these five words and would state that they are narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). These words are: "O Allah! Indeed, I seek refuge in You from miserliness, and I seek refuge in You from cowardice, and I seek refuge in You from being returned to the worst part of life, and I seek refuge in You from the trials of the world, and I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave." (O Allah! Indeed, I seek Your protection from miserliness, from cowardice, I seek Your protection from being returned to old age, I seek Your protection from the trials of the world, and I seek Your protection from the punishment of the grave.)
Hadith 5682
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَتَعَوَّذُ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ مِنْ هَمْزِهِ وَنَفْثِهِ وَنَفْخِهِ قَالَ وَهَمْزُهُ الْمَوْتَةُ وَنَفْثُهُ الشِّعْرُ وَنَفْخُهُ الْكِبْرِيَاءُ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to seek refuge from the *hamz*, *nafth*, and *nafh* of Satan. *Hamz* refers to his madness, *nafth* refers to his poetry, and *nafh* refers to his arrogance.
Hadith 5683
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَدْعُو بِهَؤُلَاءِ الْكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ غَلَبَةِ الدَّيْنِ وَغَلَبَةِ الْعَدُوِّ وَشَمَاتَةِ الْأَعْدَاءِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate with these words: "O Allah! Indeed, I seek refuge in You from being overpowered by debt, from being overpowered by the enemy, and from the rejoicing of enemies."
Hadith 5684
عَنْهُ أَيْضًا أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ نَفْسٍ لَا تَشْبَعُ وَمِنْ قَلْبٍ لَا يَخْشَعُ وَمِنْ دُعَاءٍ لَا يُسْمَعُ وَمِنْ عِلْمٍ لَا يَنْفَعُ اللَّهُمَّ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ هَؤُلَاءِ الْأَرْبَعِ
It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah! I seek refuge in You from a soul that is never satisfied, from a heart that does not fear, from a supplication that is not heard, and from knowledge that does not benefit. O Allah! I seek refuge in You from these four things."
Hadith 5685
عَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ قَوْلٍ لَا يُسْمَعُ وَعَمَلٍ لَا يُرْفَعُ وَقَلْبٍ لَا يَخْشَعُ وَعِلْمٍ لَا يَنْفَعُ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate: "O Allah! I seek refuge in You from a word that is not heard, from a deed that is not raised, from a heart that does not fear, and from knowledge that does not benefit." (O Allah! I seek refuge in You from a supplication that is not heard, from a deed that is not accepted, from a heart that does not fear, and from knowledge that does not benefit.)
Hadith 5686
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْعَجْزِ وَالْكَسَلِ وَالْهَرَمِ وَالْجُبْنِ وَالْبُخْلِ وَعَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ اللَّهُمَّ آتِ نَفْسِي تَقْوَاهَا وَزَكِّهَا أَنْتَ خَيْرُ مَنْ زَكَّاهَا أَنْتَ وَلِيُّهَا وَمَوْلَاهَا اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ قَلْبٍ لَا يَخْشَعُ وَنَفْسٍ لَا تَشْبَعُ وَعِلْمٍ لَا يَنْفَعُ وَدَعْوَةٍ لَا يُسْتَجَابُ لَهَا قَالَ فَقَالَ زَيْدُ بْنُ أَرْقَمَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُعَلِّمُنَا هُنَّ وَنَحْنُ نُعَلِّمُكُمُوهُنَّ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate: "O Allah! I seek refuge in You from incapacity, laziness, old age, cowardice, miserliness, and the punishment of the grave. O Allah! Grant my soul piety and purify it, for You are the best to purify it. You are its Guardian and Master. O Allah! I seek refuge in You from a heart that does not fear, a soul that is not satisfied, knowledge that does not benefit, and a supplication that is not answered." Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to teach us these words, and we are teaching them to you."
Hadith 5687
عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْكَسَلِ وَالْهَرَمِ وَالْمَغْرَمِ وَالْمَأْثَمِ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْمَسِيحِ الدَّجَّالِ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِ النَّارِ
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate: "O Allah! Indeed, I seek refuge in You from laziness, extreme old age, debt, and sin. And I seek refuge in You from the trial of the False Messiah (Dajjal). And I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave, and I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the Fire."
Hadith 5688
حَدَّثَنَا أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْعَجْزِ وَالْكَسَلِ وَالْجُبْنِ وَالْهَرَمِ وَالْبُخْلِ وَعَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْمَحْيَا وَالْمَمَاتِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to supplicate: "O Allah! Indeed, I seek refuge in You from incapacity, laziness, cowardice, extreme old age, miserliness, and the punishment of the grave, and I seek refuge in You from the trials of life and death."
Hadith 5689
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يُعَلِّمُهُمُ الدُّعَاءَ كَمَا يُعَلِّمُهُمُ السُّورَةَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ يَقُولُ قُولُوا وَفِي لَفْظٍ كَانَ يُعَلِّمُهُمْ هَذَا الدُّعَاءَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِ جَهَنَّمَ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْمَسِيحِ الدَّجَّالِ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْمَحْيَا وَالْمَمَاتِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to teach the companions this supplication as he would teach a surah from the Qur'an. He (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say: Say: "O Allah! Indeed, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of Hell, and I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave, and I seek refuge in You from the trial of the False Messiah (Dajjal), and I seek refuge in You from the trials of life and death." (O Allah! Indeed, I seek Your protection from the punishment of Hell, I seek Your protection from the punishment of the grave, I seek Your protection from the trial of the False Messiah (Dajjal), and I seek Your protection from the trials of life and death.)
Hadith 5690
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْفَقْرِ وَالْقِلَّةِ وَالذِّلَّةِ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أَظْلِمَ أَوْ أُظْلَمَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to supplicate: "O Allah! Indeed, I seek refuge with You from poverty, scarcity, and humiliation, and I seek refuge with You from wronging others or being wronged." (O Allah! Indeed, I seek Your protection from poverty, scarcity, humiliation, and I seek Your protection from committing oppression or being oppressed.)
Hadith 5691
عَنْهُ أَيْضًا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أَمُوتَ غَمًّا أَوْ هَمًّا أَوْ أَنْ أَمُوتَ غَرَقًا أَوْ أَنْ يَتَخَبَّطَنِي الشَّيْطَانُ عِنْدَ الْمَوْتِ أَوْ أَنْ أَمُوتَ لَدِيغًا
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) also narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) made this supplication: "O Allah! I seek refuge in You from dying due to grief, or anxiety, or from dying by drowning, or that Satan should confound me at the time of death, or that I die from a sting." (O Allah! I seek Your protection from dying due to grief, or anxiety, or by drowning, or that Satan should make me insane at the time of death, or that I die due to a sting.)
Hadith 5692
عَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْبَرَصِ وَالْجُنُونِ وَالْجُذَامِ وَمِنْ سَيِّئِ الْأَسْقَامِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate: "O Allah! I seek refuge in You from leucoderma, insanity, leprosy, and evil diseases." (O Allah! I seek Your protection from leucoderma, insanity, leprosy, and bad illnesses.)
Hadith 5693
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَسْتَعِيذُ مِنْ هَؤُلَاءِ الثَّلَاثِ دَرَكِ الشَّقَاءِ وَشَمَاتَةِ الْأَعْدَاءِ وَسُوءِ الْقَضَاءِ أَوْ جَهْدِ الْقَضَاءِ قَالَ سُفْيَانُ زِدْتُ أَنَا وَاحِدَةً لَا أَدْرِي أَيَّتُهُنَّ هِيَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Huraira, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, used to seek refuge from these three things: encountering misfortune, the joy of enemies, and an evil judgment or a judgment that brings hardship. Imam Sufyan says: One of these things has increased for me, but I do not know which one it is.
Hadith 5694
عَنْ أَبِي الْيَسَرِ السُّلَمِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَدْعُو فَيَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْهَدْمِ وَالتَّرَدِّي وَالْهَرَمِ وَزَادَ فِي رِوَايَةٍ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْغَمِّ وَالْغَرَقِ وَالْحَرِيقِ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ يَتَخَبَّطَنِي الشَّيْطَانُ عِنْدَ الْمَوْتِ وَأَنْ أُقْتَلَ فِي سَبِيلِكَ مُدْبِرًا وَأَنْ أَمُوتَ لَدِيغًا
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Yasar Salmi (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate with these words: "O Allah! I seek refuge in You from being overtaken by a collapsing wall or building, from falling from a high place, from extreme old age, and I seek refuge in You from sorrow, from drowning, from burning, and I seek refuge in You from the devil making me lose my senses at the time of death, and from being killed while fleeing on Your path, and from dying due to being bitten."
Hadith 5695
عَنْ شُتَيْرِ بْنِ شَكَلٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ عَلِّمْنِي دُعَاءً أَنْتَفِعُ بِهِ قَالَ قُلْ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ سَمْعِي وَبَصَرِي وَقَلْبِي وَمَنِيِّي
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Shakl (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I said, O Messenger of Allah! Teach me a supplication from which I may benefit. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Say: "Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min sharri sam'i wa basari wa qalbi wa maniyyi." (O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the evil of my hearing, my sight, my heart, and my semen.)
Hadith 5696
عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى الْأَشْعَرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ خَطَبَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ فَقَالَ أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اتَّقُوا هَذَا الشِّرْكَ فَإِنَّهُ أَخْفَى مِنْ دَبِيبِ النَّمْلِ فَقَالَ لَهُ مَنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَقُولَ وَكَيْفَ نَتَّقِيهِ وَهُوَ أَخْفَى مِنْ دَبِيبِ النَّمْلِ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ قُولُوا اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا نَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ أَنْ نُشْرِكَ بِكَ شَيْئًا نَعْلَمُهُ وَنَسْتَغْفِرُكَ لِمَا لَا نَعْلَمُ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) addressed us one day and said: O people! Beware of this shirk, for it is more hidden than the crawling of an ant. A man said: O Messenger of Allah! Then how can we be safe from it, when it is more hidden than the crawling of an ant? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Say this supplication: "Allahumma inna na'udhu bika min an nushrika bika shay'an na'lamuhu wa nastaghfiruka lima la na'lamu." (O Allah! Indeed, we seek refuge in You from associating anything with You knowingly, and we seek Your forgiveness for what we do not know.)
Hadith 5697
عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ اسْتَعِيذُوا بِاللَّهِ مِنْ طَمَعٍ يَهْدِي إِلَى طَبْعٍ وَمِنْ طَمَعٍ يَهْدِي إِلَى غَيْرِ مَطْمَعٍ وَمِنْ طَمَعٍ حَيْثُ لَا طَمَعَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed us: Seek refuge with Allah from intense greed, for it leads to defect and disgrace. Also seek refuge from such intense greed that leads to something difficult to attain, and seek refuge from coveting a position where (sensibly or legally) coveting is not possible.
Hadith 5698
عَنْ فَرْوَةَ بْنِ نَوْفَلٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قُلْتُ أَخْبِرِينِي بِشَيْءٍ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَدْعُو بِهِ وَفِي لَفْظٍ عَنْ دُعَاءِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَعَلِّي أَدْعُو اللَّهَ بِهِ فَيَنْفَعَنِي اللَّهُ بِهِ قَالَتْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُكْثِرُ أَنْ يَقُولَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا عَمِلْتُ وَمِنْ شَرِّ مَا لَمْ أَعْمَلْ وَفِي لَفْظٍ قَالَتْ كَانَ يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا عَمِلَتْهُ نَفْسِي
It is narrated from Furwah bin Nawfal, he says: I said to Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her): Tell me about the supplication of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), perhaps I may also call upon Allah with it and Allah may benefit me. She said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to frequently make this supplication: "O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done, and from the evil of what I have not done." In another narration, the words are: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite this supplication: "O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the evil of what my soul has done."
Hadith 5699
عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ فَزِعْتُ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ وَفَقَدْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَمَدَدْتُ يَدِي فَوَقَعَتْ عَلَى قَدَمَيْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُمَا مُنْتَصِبَتَانِ وَهُوَ سَاجِدٌ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ أَعُوذُ بِرِضَاكَ مِنْ سَخَطِكَ وَأَعُوذُ بِمُعَافَاتِكَ مِنْ عُقُوبَتِكَ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْكَ لَا أُحْصِي ثَنَاءً عَلَيْكَ أَنْتَ كَمَا أَثْنَيْتَ عَلَى نَفْسِكَ
It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), she says: One night I became anxious and I found the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) missing, so I stretched out my hand to search for him, and my hand touched his feet, which were upright, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) was in prostration reciting this supplication: “I seek refuge in Your pleasure from Your wrath, … You are as You have praised Yourself.” (I seek refuge in Your pleasure from Your anger, I seek refuge in Your forgiveness from Your punishment, I seek refuge in You from You, I cannot enumerate Your praise, You are as You have praised Yourself.)
Hadith 5700
عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَقُولُ فِي آخِرِ وِتْرِهِ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِرِضَاكَ مِنْ سَخَطِكَ وَأَعُوذُ بِمُعَافَاتِكَ مِنْ عُقُوبَتِكَ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْكَ لَا أُحْصِي ثَنَاءً عَلَيْكَ أَنْتَ كَمَا أَثْنَيْتَ عَلَى نَفْسِكَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate at the end of his Witr prayer: "O Allah! I seek refuge in Your pleasure from Your wrath, and I seek refuge in Your pardon from Your punishment, and I seek refuge in You from You. I cannot enumerate praise of You; You are as You have praised Yourself."
Hadith 5701
عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَدْعُو بِهَؤُلَاءِ الدَّعَوَاتِ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ النَّارِ وَعَذَابِ النَّارِ وَفِتْنَةِ الْقَبْرِ وَعَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ وَمِنْ شَرِّ فِتْنَةِ الْغِنَى وَمِنْ شَرِّ فِتْنَةِ الْفَقْرِ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْمَسِيحِ الدَّجَّالِ اللَّهُمَّ اغْسِلْ خَطَايَايَ بِمَاءِ الثَّلْجِ وَالْبَرَدِ وَنَقِّ قَلْبِي مِنَ الْخَطَايَا كَمَا نَقَّيْتَ الثَّوْبَ الْأَبْيَضَ مِنَ الدَّنَسِ وَبَاعِدْ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ خَطَايَايَ كَمَا بَاعَدْتَ بَيْنَ الْمَشْرِقِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْكَسَلِ وَالْهَرَمِ وَالْمَأْثَمِ وَالْمَغْرَمِ
It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to make these supplications: "O Allah! Indeed, I seek refuge in You from the trial of the Fire, from the punishment of the Fire, from the trial of the grave, from the punishment of the grave, from the evil of the trial of wealth, from the evil of the trial of poverty. I seek refuge in You from the trial of the false messiah Dajjal. O Allah, wash away my sins with the water of snow and hail, and purify my heart from errors as You purify a white garment from filth. Put a distance between me and my sins as You have put a distance between the East and the West. O Allah! Indeed, I seek refuge in You from laziness, extreme old age, sin, and debt."
Hadith 5702
عَنْ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَتَعَوَّذُ مِنَ الْبُخْلِ وَالْجُبْنِ وَعَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ وَأَرْذَلِ الْعُمُرِ وَفِتْنَةِ الصَّدْرِ قَالَ وَكِيعٌ فِتْنَةُ الصَّدْرِ أَنْ يَمُوتَ الرَّجُلُ وَذَكَرَ وَكِيعٌ الْفِتْنَةَ لَمْ يَتُبْ مِنْهَا
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to seek refuge from miserliness, cowardice, the torment of the grave, the most disgraceful age, and the trial of the chest. Imam Waki’ said: The trial of the chest is that a person dies in such a state that he has committed any of the aforementioned evils, but has not yet repented.
Hadith 5703
عَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ عَنْ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَتَعَوَّذُ مِنْ خَمْسٍ مِنَ الْبُخْلِ وَالْجُبْنِ وَفِتْنَةِ الصَّدْرِ وَعَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ وَسُوءِ الْعَمَلِ
(Second chain) It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to seek refuge from these five things: miserliness, cowardice, the trial of the chest, the punishment of the grave, and evil deeds.
