Hadith 5661
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave this advice to Sayyiduna Salman Khair (may Allah be pleased with him): Verily, the Prophet of Allah wants to grant you a few words, through which you will ask the Most Merciful, through which you will express your desire towards Him, and you will recite them day and night. Say: O Allah! I ask You for the health of faith, and faith with good character, and success that is followed by prosperity, that is, and mercy from You, and well-being, and forgiveness from You, and Your pleasure. (O Allah! I ask You for perfect faith, faith with good character, and the fulfillment of a successful purpose. I ask You for mercy, well-being, forgiveness, and Your pleasure.)

Hadith 5662
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates from his father, Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), that he came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! I am your uncle, now I have become old and the time of my death has drawn near, so teach me something through which Allah Almighty may benefit me. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Abbas! You are my uncle, but I cannot suffice for you before Allah Almighty. However, you should ask your Lord for forgiveness and well-being in this world and the Hereafter. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) repeated this three times. Then, when he came at the end of the year, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said the same thing again.

Then the same man came the next day and said: O Messenger of Allah! Which supplication is the best? He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: That you ask your Lord for forgiveness and well-being in this world and the Hereafter. Then the same man came on the third day and said: O Messenger of Allah! Which supplication is the best? It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) taught him a supplication and instructed him to ensure that his family members also recite this supplication every day (i.e., all members should recite it daily). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Every morning say: I am present (for Your obedience), O Allah! I am present, and I am present. Goodness is in Your hand, it is from You, it is with You, and it is to You. O Allah! Whatever I have said, whatever vow I have made, and whatever oath I have taken, Your will is above all of them. Whatever You will happens, and whatever You do not will does not happen. There is no power to avoid evil and no strength to do good except with You. Surely, You have power over all things. O Allah! The mercy I have prayed for is for the one upon whom You have sent mercy, and the curse I have invoked is upon the one whom You have cursed. Surely, You are my friend in this world and in the Hereafter. Cause me to die as a Muslim and join me with the righteous. O Allah! I ask You for contentment after Your decree, comfort after death, the pleasure of looking at Your Face, and the longing to meet You, but not in a way that brings harmful distress or a misleading trial. O Allah! I seek refuge in You from oppressing or being oppressed, from committing excess or having excess committed against me, from committing a sin that wastes deeds, or from committing an unforgivable sin. O Allah! Creator of the heavens and the earth! Knower of the unseen and the seen! Possessor of majesty and honor! Surely, I make a promise to You in this worldly life and make You a witness, and You are sufficient as a witness, that I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except You. You are alone, You have no partner. Sovereignty belongs to You, all praise is for You, and You have power over all things. And I also bear witness that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is Your servant and Your Messenger, and I bear witness that Your promise is true, Your meeting is true, Paradise is true, the Day of Judgment is undoubtedly coming, and You will resurrect those in the graves. And I also bear witness that if You entrust me to myself, it would mean that You have left me to loss, defect, sin, and error, and I have no reliance except on Your mercy. So forgive all my sins for me, for You are the Forgiver of sins, and accept my repentance. Surely, You are the Acceptor of repentance and the Most Merciful.

All praise is for You, all sovereignty is for You, all goodness is in Your hand, all matters are returned to You, whether open or hidden. You are worthy of being praised. Indeed, You have power over all things. O Allah! Forgive me all the sins I have committed, protect me in the remaining part of my life, and grant me pure deeds by which You will be pleased with me." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding this supplication and voice: This was an angel who came to teach you how to praise your Lord.

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) wanted to say something, while Sayyidah herself was praying. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyidah: Be sure to observe the completion (of prayer). Or the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said something similar. When she finished and asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about this instruction, he said: Recite this supplication:

“O Allah! Indeed, I ask You for all good, immediate and delayed, that which I know of and that which I do not know of, and I seek refuge in You from all evil, immediate and delayed, that which I know of and that which I do not know of. And I ask You for Paradise and for every word or deed that brings one closer to it, and I seek refuge in You from the Fire and from every word or deed that brings one closer to it. And I ask You for every good that Your servant and Messenger Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) asked You for, and I seek refuge in You from every evil from which Your servant and Messenger Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) sought refuge. And I ask You that whatever decree You have made for me, make its outcome good.” (In another wording: “And I ask You to make every decree You decree for me good.”)

(O Allah! Indeed, I ask You for every kind of good, whether it comes soon or later, whether I know of it or not, and I seek refuge in You from every kind of evil, whether it comes soon or later, whether I know of it or not. I ask You for Paradise and for every word or deed that brings one closer to it. I seek refuge in You from the Fire and from every word or deed that brings one closer to it. Rather, I ask You for every good that Your servant and Messenger Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) asked You for, and I seek refuge in You from every evil from which Your servant and Messenger Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) sought refuge. And I ask You that whatever decision You have made for me, make its outcome good.) In one narration, the last sentence is: I ask You that whatever decision You have made for me, place good in it.

It is narrated from Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her), she says: I said, "O Messenger of Allah! Will you not teach me a supplication through which I may pray for myself?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, of course, you should supplicate as follows: O Allah, Lord of Muhammad the Prophet! Forgive my sin, remove the anger from my heart, and protect me from the misguiding trials as long as You keep us alive."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Imran bin Husain (may Allah be pleased with him) or from another companion that a man named Husain or Hasin came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Muhammad! ‘Abd al-Muttalib was better for his people than you; he used to feed them liver and hump, while you command them to slaughter camels. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him the answer that Allah Almighty willed, then he said: What do you command me to say? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Recite this supplication: “Allahumma qini sharri nafsi, wa a’zim li ‘ala arshadi amri” (O Allah! Protect me from the evil of my soul, and strengthen my resolve upon the most guided matter). That man went away, but then returned as a Muslim and said: I had come to you and you taught me this supplication: “Allahumma qini sharri nafsi, wa a’zim li ‘ala arshadi amri.” Now what should I say? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Make this supplication: “Allahumma ighfir li ma asrartu wa ma a’lantu wa ma akhta’tu wa ma ‘amattu wa ma ‘alimtu wa ma jahiltu.” (O Allah! Forgive me for those sins which I committed secretly and those which I committed openly, those which I committed unintentionally and those which I committed deliberately, and those which I know of and those which I do not know of).

Indeed, I ask You for patience." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You have asked for trial, so ask Allah for well-being." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by another man, and he was supplicating: "O Allah! I ask You for the completion of Your blessing." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O son of Adam! Do you know what the completion of blessing is?" He said: "O Messenger of Allah! I only supplicated with the hope of good." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, freedom from Hell and entry into Paradise is the completion of blessing." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to another man, and he was saying these words: "Ya Dhal-Jalali wal-Ikram (O Possessor of Majesty and Honor)." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, your supplication has been accepted, so ask."

Innaka la tukhliful mi’ad” (O Allah! Creator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the seen, surely I make a covenant with You in this worldly life that I bear witness that You alone are the true God, You are One, You have no partner, and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is Your servant and Your Messenger. If You entrust me to myself, it would mean that You are bringing me close to evil and distancing me from good, and I have no trust except in Your mercy. So make for me a promise with You, which You will fulfill for me on the Day of Resurrection. Surely, You do not break Your promise.) Whoever recites this supplication, Allah Almighty will say to the angels regarding him on the Day of Resurrection: This servant took a promise from Me, so fulfill his promise for him. Thus, Allah Almighty will admit him into Paradise. Qasim bin Abdur Rahman bin Abdullah bin Mas’ud said: Among our family, every girl in her chamber recites this remembrance.
