بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي أَدْعِيَةٍ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ يُكْثِرُ الدُّعَاءَ بِهَا مِنْهَا رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةٌ
Chapter on What Has Been Reported Regarding Supplications Frequently Used by the Prophet, Including "Our Lord, Give Us Good in This World and Good in the Hereafter"
Hadith 5651
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ قَالَ سَأَلَ قَتَادَةُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَسًا رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَيُّ دَعْوَةٍ كَانَ أَكْثَرَ يَدْعُو بِهَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ كَانَ أَكْثَرُ دَعْوَةٍ يَدْعُو بِهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ وَكَانَ أَنَسٌ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَدْعُوَ بِدَعْوَةٍ دَعَا بِهَا وَإِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَدْعُوَ بِدُعَاءٍ دَعَا بِهَا فِيهِ
It is narrated from Abdul Aziz, he says: Imam Qatadah asked Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) which supplication the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to make most frequently. He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite this supplication the most: "Allahumma rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan wa qina 'adhab an-nar" (O our Lord! Grant us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and save us from the punishment of the Fire). Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) himself, whether he made a short supplication or a long one, would always include this supplication.
Hadith 5652
عَنْ ثَابِتٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَادَ رَجُلًا مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ قَدْ صَارَ مِثْلَ الْفَرْخِ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ هَلْ كُنْتَ تَدْعُو بِشَيْءٍ أَوْ تَسْأَلُهُ إِيَّاهُ قَالَ نَعَمْ كُنْتُ أَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ مَا كُنْتَ مُعَاقِبِي بِهِ فِي الْآخِرَةِ فَعَجِّلْهُ لِي فِي الدُّنْيَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ لَا تُطِيقُهُ وَلَا تَسْتَطِيعُهُ فَهَلَّا قُلْتَ اللَّهُمَّ آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ قَالَ فَدَعَا اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فَشَفَاهُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) visited a Muslim who had become like a baby bird just hatched from its egg. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: "Did you used to make any supplication or request?" He replied: "Yes, I used to supplicate: O Allah! Whatever punishment You have destined for me in the Hereafter, give it to me in this world." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "SubhanAllah! (How astonishing about you), you do not have the strength or power for this. Why did you not supplicate: 'O Allah, grant us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and save us from the punishment of the Fire.'" Then he supplicated to Allah Almighty, and Allah Almighty granted him healing.
