Chapter on What Has Been Reported Regarding Supplications Used by the Prophet (peace be upon him)
Hadith 5629
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي مَا قَدَّمْتُ وَمَا أَخَّرْتُ وَمَا أَسْرَرْتُ وَمَا أَعْلَنْتُ وَإِسْرَافِي وَمَا أَنْتَ أَعْلَمُ بِهِ مِنِّي أَنْتَ الْمُقَدِّمُ وَأَنْتَ الْمُؤَخِّرُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to recite this supplication: "O Allah! Forgive me for what I have sent forth, and what I have delayed, and what I have done secretly, and what I have done openly, and my excesses, and whatever You know better about me than I do. You are the One Who brings forward and You are the One Who delays. There is no deity worthy of worship except You." (O Allah! Forgive for me those sins which I have committed earlier, which I will commit later, which I have committed secretly, which I have committed openly, in which I have exceeded the limits, and those sins which You know better than me. You are the One Who brings forward and You are the One Who delays, and there is no true deity except You.)
Hadith 5630
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْهُدَى وَالتُّقَى وَالْعِفَّةَ وَالْغِنَى
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Allah! I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and sufficiency.
Hadith 5631
عَنْهُ أَيْضًا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ أَحْسَنْتَ خَلْقِي فَأَحْسِنْ خُلُقِي
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate: "O Allah! You have made my creation good, so make my character good as well."
Hadith 5632
عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا إِنْ كُنَّا لَنَعُدُّ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْمَجْلِسِ يَقُولُ رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَتُبْ عَلَيَّ إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ التَّوَّابُ الْغَفُورُ مِائَةَ مَرَّةٍ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), he says: According to our count, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite this supplication one hundred times in a single gathering: "Rabbighfir li wa tub 'alayya, innaka anta at-Tawwab al-Ghafur" (O my Lord! Forgive me and accept my repentance, surely You are the Acceptor of Repentance, the Most Forgiving).
Hadith 5633
عَنْ أَبِي صِرْمَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ غِنَايَ وَغِنَى مَوْلَايَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Surmah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) used to supplicate: O Allah! Indeed, I ask You for the sufficiency of my (own self) and the sufficiency of my Master.
Hadith 5634
عَنْ زَيْدٍ أَبِي الْقَمُوصِ عَنْ وَفْدِ عَبْدِ الْقَيْسِ أَنَّهُمْ سَمِعُوا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنَا مِنْ عِبَادِكَ الْمُنْتَخَبِينَ الْغُرِّ الْمُحَجَّلِينَ الْوَفْدِ الْمُتَقَبَّلِينَ قَالَ فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَا عِبَادُ اللَّهِ الْمُنْتَخَبُونَ قَالَ عِبَادُ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحُونَ قَالُوا فَمَا الْغُرُّ الْمُحَجَّلُونَ قَالَ الَّذِينَ يَبْيَضُّ مِنْهُمْ مَوَاضِعُ الطُّهُورِ قَالُوا فَمَا الْوَفْدُ الْمُتَقَبَّلُونَ قَالَ وَفْدٌ يَفِدُونَ مِنْ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ مَعَ نَبِيِّهِمْ إِلَى رَبِّهِمْ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى
Abu Qamus narrates from Zaid that the delegation of Abdul Qais reports: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "O Allah! Make us among Your chosen servants, those with radiant faces and limbs, and among the accepted delegation." The companions asked: "O Messenger of Allah! Who are Allah's chosen servants?" He, peace and blessings be upon him, replied: "Allah's righteous servants." The people asked: "Who are those whose faces and hands and feet will be radiant?" He, peace and blessings be upon him, replied: "They are those whose limbs of ablution will shine." The companions asked: "Who are meant by the accepted delegation?" He, peace and blessings be upon him, replied: "They are the delegation of this Ummah who will go towards Allah Almighty with their Prophet."
Hadith 5635
عَنْ أَبِي الْعَلَاءِ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ وَامْرَأَةٍ مِنْ قَيْسٍ أَنَّهُمَا سَمِعَا النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ أَحَدُهُمَا سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي ذَنْبِي وَخَطَأِي وَعَمْدِي وَقَالَ الْآخَرُ سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ اسْتَهْدِكَ لِأَرْشَدِ أَمْرِي وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ نَفْسِي
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Uthman bin Abi al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) and a woman from Banu Qais that they heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) making this supplication. One of them said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made this supplication: "O Allah! Forgive my sin, what I have done unintentionally and what I have done deliberately." The other said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made this supplication: "O Allah! I seek guidance from You for the best of my affairs, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of my own self."
Hadith 5636
عَنْ أَبِي السَّلِيلِ عَنْ عَجُوزٍ مِنْ بَنِي نُمَيْرٍ أَنَّهَا رَمَقَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يُصَلِّي بِالْأَبْطَحِ تُجَاهَ الْبَيْتِ قَبْلَ الْهِجْرَةِ قَالَ فَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي ذَنْبِي خَطَأِي وَجَهْلِي
Abu Salil narrates from an old woman of Banu Namir that she attentively observed the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, before the migration, praying in the valley of Abtah in front of the House of Allah. She heard the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, reciting this supplication: "O Allah! Forgive my sins, those committed unintentionally and out of ignorance."
Hadith 5637
عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ الْقُرَظِيِّ قَالَ قَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ اللَّهُمَّ لَا مَانِعَ لِمَا أَعْطَيْتَ وَلَا مُعْطِيَ لِمَا مَنَعْتَ وَلَا يَنْفَعُ ذَا الْجَدِّ مِنْكَ الْجَدُّ مَنْ يُرِدِ اللَّهُ بِهِ خَيْرًا يُفَقِّهْهُ فِي الدِّينِ سَمِعْتُ هَؤُلَاءِ الْكَلِمَاتِ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى هَذَا الْمِنْبَرِ
Muhammad bin Ka'b Qurazi says: Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said these words on the pulpit: O Allah! There is none who can withhold what You give, and none who can give what You withhold, and the wealthy cannot be saved from Your punishment by their wealth. Allah, when He intends good for someone, grants him understanding in religion. Then he said: I heard these words from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); he spoke them from this pulpit.
Hadith 5638
عَنْ بُسْرِ بْنِ أَرْطَاةَ الْقُرَشِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَدْعُو اللَّهُمَّ أَحْسِنْ عَاقِبَتَنَا فِي الْأُمُورِ كُلِّهَا وَأَجِرْنَا مِنْ خِزْيِ الدُّنْيَا وَعَذَابِ الْآخِرَةِ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ وَسَمِعْتُهُ أَنَا مِنْ هَيْثَمٍ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Basr bin Arta’ah Qurashi, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to supplicate: "O Allah! Make good our end in all matters, and save us from the disgrace of this world and the punishment of the Hereafter." (O Allah! Make our outcome good in all our affairs and protect us from the disgrace of this world and the punishment of the Hereafter.)
Hadith 5639
عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَدْعُو بِهَؤُلَاءِ الدَّعَوَاتِ اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي خَطَايَايَ وَجَهْلِي وَإِسْرَافِي فِي أَمْرِي وَمَا أَنْتَ أَعْلَمُ بِهِ مِنِّي اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي جَدِّي وَهَزْلِي وَخَطَأِي وَعَمْدِي وَكُلُّ ذَلِكَ عِنْدِي
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate: "O Allah! Forgive me my sins, my ignorance, my excesses in my affairs, and whatever You know better about me than I do. O Allah! Forgive me my seriousness and my jest, my mistakes and my deliberate actions, and all of that is within me." (O Allah! Forgive my sins which I committed out of ignorance, those I committed by exceeding the limits, and those sins which You know better than I do. O Allah! Forgive those sins which I committed seriously, those I committed in jest, those I committed unintentionally, and those I committed out of ignorance, and all these sins are within me.)
Hadith 5640
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَدْعُو يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا وَظُلْمَنَا وَهَزْلَنَا وَجِدَّنَا وَعَمْدَنَا وَكُلُّ ذَلِكَ عِنْدَنَا
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to supplicate: "O Allah! Forgive us our sins, our wrongdoings, our jesting, our seriousness, and our intentional acts, and all of these are within us."
Hadith 5641
عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ فِعْلَ الْخَيْرَاتِ وَتَرْكَ الْمُنْكَرَاتِ وَحُبَّ الْمَسَاكِينِ وَأَنْ تَغْفِرَ لِي وَتَرْحَمَنِي وَإِذَا أَرَدْتَ فِتْنَةً فِي قَوْمٍ فَتَوَفَّنِي غَيْرَ مَفْتُونٍ وَأَسْأَلُكَ حُبَّكَ وَحُبَّ مَنْ يُحِبُّكَ وَحُبَّ عَمَلٍ يُقَرِّبُنِي إِلَى حُبِّكَ وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّهَا حَقٌّ فَادْرُسُوهَا وَتَعَلَّمُوهَا
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate: "O Allah! Indeed I ask You ... and the love of a deed that brings me closer to Your love." (O Allah! Indeed I ask You for the ability to do good deeds, to abstain from evil deeds, to love the poor, and I ask You to forgive me and have mercy on me. And when You intend to send down a trial, then cause me to die in a state that I am safe from that trial. I ask You for Your love, the love of those who love You, and the love of the deeds that bring me closer to Your love.) Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The words of this supplication are true; learn it and acquire its knowledge.
Hadith 5642
عَنِ ابْنِ الْقَعْقَاعِ عَنْ رَجُلٍ جَعَلَ يَرْصُدُ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَكَانَ يَقُولُ فِي دُعَائِهِ اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي ذَنْبِي وَوَسِّعْ لِي فِي ذَاتِي وَبَارِكْ لِي فِيمَا رَزَقْتَنِي ثُمَّ رَصَدَهُ الثَّانِيَةَ فَكَانَ يَقُولُ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ
Ibn Qaqa’ narrates from a man who used to keep watch over the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and would observe him closely. He says that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to supplicate: “O Allah! Forgive my sin, expand my being for me, and bless for me what You have provided me.” The next day, he again kept watch over the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and the Prophet recited the same supplication again.
Hadith 5643
عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنِي مِنَ الَّذِينَ إِذَا أَحْسَنُوا اسْتَبْشَرُوا وَإِذَا أَسَاءُوا اسْتَغْفَرُوا
It is narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate: "O Allah! Make me among those who, when they do good, rejoice, and when they do evil, seek forgiveness."
Hadith 5644
عَنِ ابْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ حُدِّثْتُ عَنِ الْأَشْعَرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ لِمَا قَدَّمْتُ وَمَا أَخَّرْتُ وَمَا أَسْرَرْتُ وَمَا أَعْلَنْتُ إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْمُقَدِّمُ وَأَنْتَ الْمُؤَخِّرُ وَأَنْتَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him), who says: It was narrated to me from Sayyiduna Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicating: "O Allah! I seek Your forgiveness … over all things You have power." (O Allah! I seek Your forgiveness for the sins I committed earlier, those I will commit later, those I committed secretly, those I committed openly. Surely, You are the One Who brings forward and You are the One Who delays, and You have power over all things.)
Hadith 5645
عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَقُولُ رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لِي وَارْحَمْنِي وَاهْدِنِي لِلطَّرِيقِ الْأَقْوَمِ وَفِي لَفْظٍ رَبِّ اغْفِرْ وَارْحَمْ وَاهْدِنِي السَّبِيلَ الْأَقْوَمَ
It is narrated from Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate: O our Lord! Forgive me, have mercy on me, and guide me to the straightest path. In another narration, the words are: O my Lord! Forgive, have mercy, and guide me to the straightest path.
Hadith 5646
عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَدْعُو رَبِّ أَعِنِّي وَلَا تُعِنْ عَلَيَّ وَانْصُرْنِي وَلَا تَنْصُرْ عَلَيَّ وَامْكُرْ لِي وَلَا تَمْكُرْ عَلَيَّ وَاهْدِنِي وَيَسِّرِ الْهُدَى إِلَيَّ وَانْصُرْنِي عَلَى مَنْ بَغَى عَلَيَّ رَبِّ اجْعَلْنِي لَكَ شَكَّارًا لَكَ ذَكَّارًا لَكَ رَهَّابًا لَكَ مِطْوَاعًا إِلَيْكَ مُخْبِتًا لَكَ أَوَّاهًا مُنِيبًا رَبِّ تَقَبَّلْ تَوْبَتِي وَاغْسِلْ حَوْبَتِي وَأَجِبْ دَعْوَتِي وَثَبِّتْ حُجَّتِي وَسَدِّدْ لِسَانِي وَاسْلُلْ سَخِيمَةَ قَلْبِي
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate: "O my Lord! Help me and do not help against me, ... ... and remove malice from my heart." (O my Lord! Help me, do not help against me, support me, do not support against me, plan for me, do not plan against me, guide me, make guidance easy for me, help me against the one who transgresses against me. O my Lord! Make me one who is most grateful to You, who remembers You most, who fears You most, who obeys You most, who humbles himself before You, who weeps much before You, and who turns to You much. O my Lord! Accept my repentance, wash away my sin, accept my supplication, establish my proof, keep my tongue truthful, and remove malice and envy from my heart.)
Hadith 5647
عَنْهُ أَيْضًا عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَعَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَإِلَيْكَ أَنَبْتُ وَبِكَ خَاصَمْتُ أَعُوذُ بِعِزَّتِكَ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ أَنْ تُضِلَّنِي أَنْتَ الْحَيُّ الَّذِي لَا يَمُوتُ وَالْجِنُّ وَالْإِنْسُ يَمُوتُونَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate: "O Allah! I have submitted to You, I have believed in You, I have placed my trust in You, I have turned to You, I have argued by means of You. I seek refuge in Your might—there is no deity except You—from You leading me astray. You are the Ever-Living who does not die, while the jinn and mankind will die."
Hadith 5648
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ دَعَوَاتٌ سَمِعْتُهَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا أَتْرُكُهَا مَا عِشْتُ حَيًّا سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنِي أُعْظِمُ شُكْرَكَ وَأُكْثِرُ ذِكْرَكَ وَأَتْبَعُ نَصِيحَتَكَ وَأَحْفَظُ وَصِيَّتَكَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), there are some supplicatory words which I heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and as long as I am alive, I will not leave them. I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicating: "O Allah! Make me one who greatly thanks You, abundantly remembers You, follows Your advice, and preserves Your command."
Hadith 5649
عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ حَسَّانَ عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ بَنِي كِنَانَةَ قَالَ صَلَّيْتُ خَلْفَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَامَ الْفَتْحِ فَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ لَا تُخْزِنِي يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ قَالَ ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ يَحْيَى بْنُ حَسَّانَ مِنْ أَهْلِ بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ وَكَانَ شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا حَسَنَ الْفَهْمِ
It is narrated from Yahya bin Hassan that a man from Banu Kinanah said: I performed prayer behind the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the year of the conquest of Makkah, and I heard him supplicating: "Allahumma la tukhzini yawma al-qiyamah" (O Allah! Do not disgrace me on the Day of Resurrection).
Hadith 5650
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي أَوْفَى رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَدْعُو فَيَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ طَهِّرْنِي بِالثَّلْجِ وَالْبَرَدِ وَالْمَاءِ الْبَارِدِ اللَّهُمَّ طَهِّرْ قَلْبِي مِنَ الْخَطَايَا كَمَا طَهَّرْتَ الثَّوْبَ الْأَبْيَضَ مِنَ الدَّنَسِ وَبَاعِدْ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ ذُنُوبِي كَمَا بَاعَدْتَ بَيْنَ الْمَشْرِقِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ قَلْبٍ لَا يَخْشَعُ وَمِنْ نَفْسٍ لَا تَشْبَعُ وَدُعَاءٍ لَا يُسْمَعُ وَعِلْمٍ لَا يَنْفَعُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ هَؤُلَاءِ الْأَرْبَعِ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِيشَةً تَقِيَّةً وَمِيتَةً سَوِيَّةً وَمَرَدًّا غَيْرَ مُخْزٍ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abu Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate: O Allah! Purify me with snow, hail, and cold water... O Allah! Cleanse my heart from errors as You cleanse a white garment from filth, and distance me from my sins as You have distanced the East from the West. O Allah! I seek refuge in You from a heart that does not fear, from a soul that is not satisfied, from a supplication that is not heard, and from knowledge that does not benefit. O Allah! I seek refuge in You from these four things. O Allah! I ask You for a pure life, a balanced death, and a return that is not disgraceful.
