It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mughaffal (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard his son supplicating in this manner: "O Allah! I ask You for a white palace in Paradise, so that when I enter it, it is on my right side." In another narration, it is: "I ask You for Paradise and such-and-such thing." So he said to his son: "O my son! Ask Allah for Paradise and seek refuge from the Fire. Indeed, I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: There will be people in my Ummah who will be excessive in supplication and purification."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard his son making this supplication: O Allah! I ask You for Paradise, its blessings, its thick silk, and such-and-such of its things, and I seek refuge in You from the Fire, its chains, and its collars. He said to him: You have asked Allah for a great deal of good and sought refuge from a great deal of evil, whereas I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Soon there will come people who will be excessive in supplication. Then he recited this verse: {اُدْعُوْارَبَّکُمْتَضَرُّعًاوَخُفْیَۃًإِنَّہُلَایُحِبُّالْمُعْتَدِینَ} Call upon your Lord humbly and secretly. Indeed, He does not love those who transgress limits. (Al-A’raf: 55) And he said to his son: It is sufficient for you to say: O Allah! I ask You for Paradise and for every word and deed that brings me closer to it, and I seek refuge in You from the Fire and from every word or deed that brings me closer to it.
