بَابُ مَا يُقَالُ عِنْدَ نُزُولِ الْمَطْرِ وَسِمَاعِ الرَّعْدِ وَالصَّوَاعِقِ وَرُويَةِ الهَلال
Chapter on What Is Said When Rain Falls, Hearing Thunder and Lightning, and Seeing the Crescent
Hadith 5562
عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا رَأَى نَاشِئًا مِنْ أُفُقٍ مِنْ آفَاقِ السَّمَاءِ تَرَكَ عَمَلَهُ وَإِنْ كَانَ فِي صَلَاتِهِ ثُمَّ يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا فِيهِ فَإِنْ كَشَفَهُ اللَّهُ حَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَإِنْ مَطَرَتْ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ صَيِّبًا نَافِعًا
It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw an incomplete cloud in any part of the sky, he would leave his work, even if he was in prayer, and would begin to recite this supplication: "Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min sharri ma fihi" (O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the evil that is in this cloud). If Allah Almighty caused the cloud to disappear, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would praise Allah Almighty, and if it brought rain, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would supplicate: O Allah! Send beneficial rain.
Hadith 5563
عَنْهَا مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا رَأَى الْمَطَرَ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْهُ صَيِّبًا هَنِيئًا
. (Second chain) When the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, saw rain, he would recite this supplication: "Allahumma aj‘alhu sayyiban haniyyan" (O Allah! Make it a pleasant rain).
Hadith 5564
عَنْ سَالِمٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا سَمِعَ الرَّعْدَ وَالصَّوَاعِقَ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ لَا تَقْتُلْنَا بِغَضَبِكَ وَلَا تُهْلِكْنَا بِعَذَابِكَ وَعَافِنَا قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would hear the sound of thunder and lightning, he would recite this supplication: "O Allah! Do not destroy us with Your wrath, and do not annihilate us with Your punishment, and grant us well-being before that."
Hadith 5565
عَنْ بِلَالِ بْنِ يَحْيَى بْنِ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا رَأَى الْهِلَالَ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ أَهِلَّهُ عَلَيْنَا بِالْيُمْنِ وَالْإِيمَانِ وَالسَّلَامَةِ وَالْإِسْلَامِ رَبِّي وَرَبُّكَ اللَّهُ
Bilal bin Yahya bin Talha bin Ubaidullah narrates from his father, and he from his grandfather, that when the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) saw the new moon, he would recite this supplication: "O Allah! Let this moon rise upon us with prosperity and faith, and with safety and Islam. My Lord and your Lord is Allah." (O Allah! Cause it to rise upon us with good fortune and faith, and with safety and Islam. (O moon) My Lord and your Lord is Allah.)
Hadith 5566
عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا رَأَى الْهِلَالَ قَالَ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَ هَذَا الشَّهْرِ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ الْقَدَرِ وَمِنْ سُوءِ الْحَشْرِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna ‘Ubada bin Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would see the new moon, he would supplicate: Allah is the Greatest, … and from the evil of the gathering (Allah is the Greatest, all praise is for Allah, O Allah! Indeed, I ask You for the good of this month, there is no power to avoid evil and no strength to do good except with Allah’s help, I seek refuge in You from evil destiny and from the evil of the gathering).
