Hadith 5532
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that when the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, would lay his side on the bed, he would recite this supplication: "In Your name, my Lord, I lay down my side. If You take my soul, then have mercy on it, and if You release it, then protect it as You protect Your righteous servants." (O my Lord! With Your name I lay down my side; if You withhold my soul, then have mercy on it, and if You release it, then protect it as You protect Your righteous servants.)
Hadith 5533
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would come to his bed, he would recite this supplication: “O Allah! Lord of the seven heavens, Lord of the earth, Lord of everything, Splitter of the grain and the date-stone, Revealer of the Torah, the Gospel, and the Qur’an, I seek refuge in You from the evil of every possessor of evil whose forelock You hold. You are the First, there is nothing before You; You are the Last, there is nothing after You; You are the Manifest, there is nothing above You; You are the Hidden, there is nothing beyond You. Settle my debt for me and enrich me from poverty.”
Hadith 5534
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever, upon coming to his bed, recites this supplication three times: "Astaghfirullaha alladhi la ilaha illa huwa al-hayyul-qayyum wa atubu ilayh" (I seek forgiveness from Allah, there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer, and I turn to Him in repentance), then Allah Almighty forgives his sins, even if they are as much as the foam of the sea, or as much as the sand of the place of 'Aalij (in the evening), or even as much as the leaves of the trees.
Hadith 5535
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would come to his bed, he would recite this supplication: "All praise is due to Allah who has fed us, given us drink, sufficed us, and sheltered us. And how many are there who have no one to suffice them and no one to shelter them." (All praise is for Allah who fed us, gave us drink, sufficed us, and gave us shelter; so how many are there whose needs are not fulfilled and who have no one to give them shelter.)
Hadith 5536
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Bara’ bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed an Ansari man that when he comes to his bed, he should recite this supplication: “O Allah! I have submitted my soul to You, I have turned my face towards You, I have entrusted my affairs to You, and I have leaned my back upon You, out of desire and fear towards You. There is no refuge and no escape from You except to You. I have believed in Your Book which You have revealed, and in Your Prophet whom You have sent.” Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If he dies that night, he will die upon the natural faith.
Hadith 5537
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Bara’ bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you go to your bed, perform ablution, then lie down on your right side and say: “O Allah, I have submitted my face to You…” Then he mentioned a hadith similar to the previous one… However, its last words are as follows: So if you die, you will die upon the natural disposition of Islam.
Hadith 5538
(Third chain) With the previous chain, a narration similar in meaning to the previous narration is mentioned, except that in this one the words are as follows: So perform the ablution for prayer, ... recite this supplication at the end (that is, after this, remain silent and go to sleep). Sayyiduna Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I recited this supplication to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and when I reached the words “with Your Book which You have revealed,” I said: “and with Your Messenger,” but he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No, rather the words are: “and with Your Prophet whom You have sent.” In one narration it is stated: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If you die that night, you will die upon the natural disposition (fitrah), and if you remain alive until morning, you will attain much goodness.
Hadith 5539
(Fourth chain) The Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: When a person goes to sleep, he should place his right hand under his head and then recite this supplication: "O Allah, to You I have submitted my soul..." Then a hadith similar to the previous one was mentioned, except that in this one it is stated: If he dies that night, a house will be built for him in Paradise.
Hadith 5540
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Bara’ that when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would go to sleep, he would place his right hand under his right cheek and recite this supplication: “O Allah! Save me from Your punishment on the Day when You will resurrect Your servants.”
Hadith 5541
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Waleed bin Waleed (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: O Messenger of Allah! I feel loneliness. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you come to your bed, recite this supplication: "A‘udhu bikalimatillahi at-tammati min ghadabihi wa ‘iqabihi wa sharri ‘ibadihi wa min hamazatish-shayateeni wa an yahdurun." (I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from His anger, His punishment, the evil of His servants, the whispers of devils, and from their presence near me.) Then the devil will not harm you; rather, it is most likely that he will not even come near you.
Hadith 5542
It is narrated from Abu Abdur Rahman Hubli, he says: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) took out a paper for us and said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to teach us this supplication: "O Allah! Creator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the seen, You are the Lord of everything and the God of everything. I bear witness that there is no god but You, You are alone, You have no partner, and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is Your servant and Messenger, and the angels also bear witness to this. I seek refuge in You from Satan and his associating (others with You), and I seek refuge in You lest I commit a sin against myself or bring it upon a Muslim." Abu Abdur Rahman said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) taught this supplication to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) and said that when he wishes to sleep, he should recite this supplication at that time.
Hadith 5543
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali that Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) complained to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) about the marks on her hands caused by grinding flour. When some captives were brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), she came to him to request a servant, but he was not at home, so she returned. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) came to us while we had already lain down. I wanted to get up for him, but he (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: Remain lying in your place. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) came and sat down, and I felt the coolness of his feet. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: Shall I not tell you of an act that is better for you than a servant? When you go to bed, say Subhan Allah thirty-three times, Alhamdulillah thirty-three times, and Allahu Akbar thirty-four times.
Hadith 5544
A lengthy hadith is also narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), in which it is stated: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: After every prayer, say Subhan Allah ten times, Alhamdulillah ten times, and Allahu Akbar ten times, and when you come to your beds, say Subhan Allah thirty-three times, … .
Hadith 5545
It is narrated from Ibn Aba’d, he says: Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said to me: Shall I tell you something about myself and Sayyida Fatima (may Allah be pleased with her)? She was the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and among his family, she was the most honored in his sight, and she was also my wife. She ground the mill so much that marks appeared on her hands, she brought so much water with the waterskin that marks appeared on her neck, she swept the house until her clothes became dusty, and she kindled so much fire under the cooking pot that her clothes became dirty. These tasks caused her hardship. Meanwhile, captives or slave girls were brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). I said to Sayyida: Go to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and ask for a servant who can relieve you from this hardship of work. So she went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and indeed found a servant with him, but she could not ask him... Then the rest of the hadith is mentioned: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Shall I not tell you of an act which is better for you than a servant? When you lie down on your bed, say Subhan Allah thirty-three times, Alhamdulillah thirty-three times, and Allahu Akbar thirty-four times. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Then she uncovered her head from the curtain and said twice: I am pleased with Allah and His Messenger.
Hadith 5546
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he instructed a man that when he comes to his bed to sleep, he should recite this supplication: "O Allah! Indeed, You created my soul and You will take it back... O Allah! I ask You for well-being." (O Allah! Surely, You created my soul and You alone will cause it to die; its death and life are for You. If You keep it alive, then protect it, and if You cause it to die, then forgive it. O Allah! I ask You for well-being.)
Hadith 5547
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would come to his bed, he would recite this supplication: All praise is due to Allah who sufficed me and sheltered me... I seek refuge in You from the Fire. (All praise is for Allah who sufficed me, gave me shelter, fed me, gave me drink, who bestowed favors upon me, showed me kindness, granted me and gave abundantly; in every condition, all praise is for Allah. O Allah! You are the Lord of everything, the King of everything, and the God of everything; everything is for You. I seek Your protection from the Hellfire.)
