Chapter on What Has Been Reported Regarding Performing Ablution Before Sleep, Closing the Door, Extinguishing the Lamp, and Other Matters
Hadith 5512
Under this chapter, the following sub-chapters and hadiths have been mentioned.
عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَرْقُدَ تَوَضَّأَ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلَاةِ ثُمَّ يَرْقُدُ
It is narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to sleep, he would perform ablution as for prayer and then go to sleep.
Hadith 5513
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ نَامَ وَفِي يَدِهِ غَمَرٌ وَلَمْ يَغْسِلْهُ فَأَصَابَهُ شَيْءٌ فَلَا يَلُومَنَّ إِلَّا نَفْسَهُ
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever sleeps while there is the smell or greasiness of meat on his hand, and then because of this he suffers any harm, then he should blame only himself.
Hadith 5514
عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا تَتْرُكُوا النَّارَ فِي بُيُوتِكُمْ حِينَ تَنَامُونَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not leave fire burning in the houses at the time of sleeping.
Hadith 5515
عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا تَبِيتَنَّ النَّارُ فِي بُيُوتِكُمْ فَإِنَّهَا عَدُوٌّ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Fire must never be left to spend the night in your homes, for it is your enemy.
Hadith 5516
عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَجِيفُوا أَبْوَابَكُمْ وَأَكْفِئُوا آنِيَتَكُمْ وَأَوْكِئُوا أَسْقِيَتَكُمْ وَأَطْفِئُوا سُرُجَكُمْ فَإِنَّهُ لَنْ يُؤْذَنَ لَهُمْ بِالتَّسَوُّرِ عَلَيْكُمْ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: (In the name of Allah) close the doors, cover the vessels, tie the mouths of the water skins, and extinguish the lamps, because the devils will never be permitted to leap over the walls and enter your houses.
Hadith 5517
عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى الْأَشْعَرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ احْتَرَقَ بَيْتٌ بِالْمَدِينَةِ عَلَى أَهْلِهِ فَحُدِّثَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِشَأْنِهِمْ فَقَالَ إِنَّمَا هَذِهِ النَّارُ عَدُوٌّ لَكُمْ فَإِذَا نِمْتُمْ فَأَطْفِئُوهَا عَنْكُمْ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that a house in Madinah Munawwarah burned down along with its owners. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was informed of their situation, he said: "This fire is your enemy, so when you go to sleep, extinguish it."
Hadith 5518
عَنْ جَابِرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَغْلِقُوا الْأَبْوَابَ وَأَوْكِئُوا الْأَسْقِيَةَ وَخَمِّرُوا الْإِنَاءَ وَأَطْفِئُوا السُّرُجَ فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ لَا يَفْتَحُ غَلَقًا وَلَا يَحُلُّ وِكَاءً وَلَا يَكْشِفُ إِنَاءً فَإِنَّ الْفُوَيْسِقَةَ تُضْرِمُ عَلَى أَهْلِ الْبَيْتِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Close the doors, tie the mouths of the water skins, cover the vessels, and extinguish the lamps, because Satan neither opens a closed door, nor unties the string of a water skin, nor removes the cover of a vessel, and due to fire, a sinful animal, that is, a mouse, sets fire to the house of the people.
