It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) used to frequently recite this remembrance in the last part of his life: "Subhan Allah wa bihamdihi, astaghfirullaha wa atubu ilayh" (Glory be to Allah and with His praise, I seek forgiveness from Allah and turn to Him in repentance). I asked: What is the reason that you have started reciting this remembrance so frequently: "Subhan Allah wa bihamdihi, astaghfirullaha wa atubu ilayh"? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) replied: Indeed, my Lord informed me that I would soon see a sign among my Ummah, and then He commanded me that when I see it, I should glorify Him with His praise and seek forgiveness from Him. Indeed, He is the Acceptor of repentance. And now I have seen that sign in the form of these verses: {إِذَا جَائَ نَصْرُ اللّٰہِ وَالْفَتْحُ وَرَأَیْتَ النَّاسَ یَدْخُلُوْنَ فِی دِینِ اللّٰہِ أَفْوَاجًا فَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّکَ وَاسْتَغْفِرْہُ إِنَّہُ کَانَ تَوَّابًا} "When the help of Allah and victory comes. And you see the people entering Allah’s religion in crowds. Then glorify the praises of your Lord and seek His forgiveness. Indeed, He is ever Accepting of repentance." (An-Nasr: 1-3)
