Hadith 5369
عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ جَاءَتِ امْرَأَةٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أُخْتِي نَذَرَتْ أَنْ تَحُجَّ مَاشِيَةً قَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَصْنَعُ بِشَقَاءِ أُخْتِكِ شَيْئًا لِتَخْرُجْ رَاكِبَةً وَلْتُكَفِّرْ عَنْ يَمِينِهَا
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, that a woman came to the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said: O Messenger of Allah! My sister has vowed to perform Hajj on foot. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Allah Almighty does not wish your sister to put herself in hardship; she should go riding and offer expiation for her oath.
Hadith 5370
عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّ عُقْبَةَ بْنَ عَامِرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ إِنَّ أُخْتَهُ نَذَرَتْ أَنْ تَمْشِيَ إِلَى الْبَيْتِ وَشَكَا إِلَيْهِ ضَعْفَهَا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ غَنِيٌّ عَنْ نَذْرِ أُخْتِكَ فَلْتَرْكَبْ وَلْتُهْدِ بَدَنَةً
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that his sister had vowed to walk to the House of Allah, and he also mentioned her weakness. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Surely Allah, the Exalted, is free of need from your sister’s vow, so she should ride and offer a camel as compensation (dam).
Hadith 5371
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَدْرَكَ شَيْخًا يَمْشِي بَيْنَ ابْنَيْهِ مُتَوَكِّئًا عَلَيْهِمَا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا شَأْنُ هَذَا الشَّيْخِ قَالَ ابْنَاهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ كَانَ عَلَيْهِ نَذْرٌ فَقَالَ لَهُ ارْكَبْ أَيُّهَا الشَّيْخُ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ غَنِيٌّ عَنْكَ وَعَنْ نَذْرِكَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw an old man who was walking with the support of his two sons. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: What is the matter with this old man? His sons replied: O Messenger of Allah! He had vowed to walk on foot. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O old man! Ride (mount), for surely Allah Almighty is free of need from you and your vow.
Hadith 5372
عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ بِنَحْوِهِ وَفِيهِ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لَغَنِيٌّ أَنْ يُعَذِّبَ هَذَا نَفْسَهُ
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) has also narrated a similar hadith, except that in it is: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Verily, Allah Almighty is free of need from this person punishing himself.
Hadith 5373
عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ قَالَ إِنَّ أُخْتِي نَذَرَتْ أَنْ تَمْشِيَ إِلَى بَيْتِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فَأَمَرَتْنِي أَنْ أَسْتَفْتِيَ لَهَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَاسْتَفْتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ لِتَمْشِ وَلْتَرْكَبْ قَالَ وَكَانَ أَبُو الْخَيْرِ لَا يُفَارِقُ عُقْبَةَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir Juhani, may Allah be pleased with him, who says: My sister made a vow to walk to the House of Allah (the Ka'bah), and she instructed me to ask the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, about this matter. So when I asked the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, he said: She may walk and she may also ride. Abu al-Khair, the narrator, would not separate from his shaykh, Sayyiduna Uqbah, may Allah be pleased with him.
Hadith 5374
عَنْهُ أَيْضًا أَنَّ أُخْتَهُ نَذَرَتْ أَنْ تَمْشِيَ حَافِيَةً غَيْرَ مُخْتَمِرَةٍ فَسَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَصْنَعُ بِشَقَاءِ أُخْتِكَ شَيْئًا مُرْهَا فَلْتَخْتَمِرْ وَلْتَرْكَبْ وَلْتَصُمْ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir Juhani, may Allah be pleased with him, that his sister made a vow to walk barefoot and without a shawl. When she asked the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, he said: Allah the Exalted does not wish to bring about any hardship for your sister. Tell her to wear her shawl, ride (her mount), and fast for three days.
Hadith 5375
عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ أُخْتَ عُقْبَةَ نَذَرَتْ فِي ابْنٍ لَهَا لَتَحُجَّنَّ حَافِيَةً بِغَيْرِ خِمَارٍ فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ تَحُجُّ رَاكِبَةً مُخْتَمِرَةً وَلْتَصُمْ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the sister of Sayyiduna Uqbah (may Allah be pleased with him) made a vow regarding one of her sons that she would certainly perform Hajj barefoot and without a shawl. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to know of this, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: She should go for Hajj riding and should also wear a shawl, but she should observe fasts.
Hadith 5376
عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَدْرَكَ رَجُلَيْنِ وَهُمَا مُقْتَرِنَانِ يَمْشِيَانِ إِلَى الْبَيْتِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا بَالُ الْقِرَانِ قَالَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ نَذَرْنَا أَنْ نَمْشِيَ إِلَى الْبَيْتِ مُقْتَرِنَيْنِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَيْسَ هَذَا نَذْرًا فَقَطَعَ قِرَانَهُمَا قَالَ سُرَيْجٌ فِي حَدِيثِهِ إِنَّمَا النَّذْرُ مَا ابْتُغِيَ بِهِ وَجْهُ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) found two individuals who were tied to each other and walking towards the House of Allah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What is the reason for this rope?" They said: "We made a vow that we would walk to the House of Allah tied to each other." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is not a vow." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) cut the rope. In his narration, Sarij said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A vow is only that by which the pleasure of Allah Almighty is sought."
Hadith 5377
عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْبَادِيَةِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ أَنَّهُ حَجَّ مَعَ ذِي قَرَابَةٍ لَهُ مُقْتَرِنًا بِهِ فَرَآهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ مَا هَذَا قَالَ إِنَّهُ نَذْرٌ فَأَمَرَ بِالْقِرَانِ أَنْ يُقْطَعَ
A villager narrates from his father, and he from his grandfather, that he was going for Hajj with one of his relatives in such a way that he was tied to him. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw him, he asked: What is this? He said: This is a vow. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that the rope be cut.
Hadith 5378
عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَظَرَ إِلَى أَعْرَابِيٍّ قَائِمًا فِي الشَّمْسِ وَهُوَ يَخْطُبُ فَقَالَ مَا شَأْنُكَ قَالَ نَذَرْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَنْ لَا أَزَالَ فِي الشَّمْسِ حَتَّى تَفْرُغَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَيْسَ هَذَا نَذْرًا إِنَّمَا النَّذْرُ مَا ابْتُغِيَ بِهِ وَجْهُ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a Bedouin standing in the sun while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering a sermon. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What has happened to you?" He replied: "O Messenger of Allah! I have made a vow that I will stand in the sun until you finish this sermon." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is not a vow. A vow is that by which Allah’s pleasure is sought."
Hadith 5379
عَنِ ابْنِ طَاوُوسٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْرَائِيلَ قَالَ دَخَلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمَسْجِدَ وَأَبُو إِسْرَائِيلَ يُصَلِّي فَقِيلَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ هُوَ ذَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ لَا يَقْعُدُ وَلَا يُكَلِّمُ النَّاسَ وَلَا يَسْتَظِلُّ وَهُوَ يُرِيدُ الصِّيَامَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِيَقْعُدْ وَلْيُكَلِّمِ النَّاسَ وَلْيَسْتَظِلَّ وَلْيَصُمْ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Israil (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) entered the mosque while Abu Israil was praying. Someone informed the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), "O Messenger of Allah! This is Abu Israil; he does not sit, does not speak to people, does not come into the shade, and he also intends to fast." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He should sit down, speak to people, come into the shade, and complete his fast."
