Hadith 5320
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever swears an oath in order to unlawfully seize a Muslim’s wealth will meet Allah while He is angry with him. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse from the Book of Allah according to his statement: {إِنَّ الَّذِینَ یَشْتَرُونَ بِعَہْدِ اللّٰہِ … … Those who exchange Allah’s covenant and their oaths for a small price, they will have no share in the Hereafter, and Allah will not speak to them.
Hadith 5321
. (Second chain) There is a similar narration, except these words are additional: Sayyiduna Ash’ath (may Allah be pleased with him) came out reciting this verse and said: This verse was revealed about me, and it happened that a man claimed my well. So we brought the dispute to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: Your two witnesses, or his oath? I said: If he takes an oath, he will take a false oath. Then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever takes an oath before a ruler to wrongfully claim someone’s wealth, will meet Allah while He is angry with him.
Hadith 5322
It is narrated from Sayyiduna ‘Adi (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man from Kindah, Amr al-Qais bin ‘Abis, had a dispute with a resident of Hadramaut over a piece of land. Both of them came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) decided that the man from Hadramaut should present evidence, but he had no evidence. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) decided that Amr al-Qais should take an oath. The man from Hadramaut said: O Messenger of Allah! If you ask him to swear an oath, the land will be lost, while, by the Lord of the Ka‘bah, this is my land. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever takes a false oath to unlawfully seize his brother’s wealth will meet Allah while He is angry with him. Raja’, the narrator, says: Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: {إِنَّ الَّذِینَ یَشْتَرُونَ بِعَہْدِ اللّٰہِ وَأَیْمَانِہِمْ ثَمَنًا قَلِیلًا} … Indeed, those who exchange Allah’s covenant and their oaths for a small price. Amr al-Qais said: O Messenger of Allah! What is there for the one who gives up this land? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: For him is Paradise. He said: Then bear witness that I have given up all this land for him.
