بَابُ مَنْ حَلَفَ بِاسْمِ مِنْ أَسْمَاءِ اللهِ عَزَّوَجَلَّ أَوْ صِفَةٍ مِنْ صِفَاتٍ
Chapter on Whoever Swears by a Name or Attribute of Allah the Exalted
Hadith 5306
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ وَاللَّهِ لَأَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ فِي الْيَوْمِ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ سَبْعِينَ مَرَّةً
Narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: By Allah! I seek forgiveness from Allah and turn to Him in repentance more than seventy times a day.
Hadith 5307
عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ كَانَتْ يَمِينُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ الَّتِي يَحْلِفُ عَلَيْهَا لَا وَمُقَلِّبِ الْقُلُوبِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the words of oath used by the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), upon which he (peace be upon him) would swear, were these: "La wa Muqallib al-Qulub" (By the One Who turns the hearts).
Hadith 5308
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَقُولُ كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَلَمَّا قَامَ قُمْنَا مَعَهُ فَجَاءَهُ أَعْرَابِيٌّ فَقَالَ أَعْطِنِي يَا مُحَمَّدُ قَالَ فَقَالَ لَا وَأَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ فَجَذَبَهُ فَخَدَشَهُ قَالَ فَهَمُّوا بِهِ قَالَ دَعُوهُ قَالَ ثُمَّ أَعْطَاهُ قَالَ وَكَانَتْ يَمِينُهُ أَنْ يَقُولَ لَا وَأَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: We were in the mosque with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), when he (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up, we also stood up. Meanwhile, a Bedouin came and said: O Muhammad! Give me something. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No, and I seek forgiveness from Allah. He pulled the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), which caused a scratch to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The companions wanted to do something to him, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Leave him. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him something. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would also swear in these words: Lā wa astaghfirullāh (No, and I seek forgiveness from Allah).
Hadith 5309
وَفِي حَدِيثِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَامَ فِينَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ وَالَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ غَيْرُهُ
In the hadith of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) stood among us and said: By Him besides whom there is no deity!
Hadith 5310
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ لَا يَسْمَعُ بِي أَحَدٌ مِنْ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ وَلَا يَهُودِيٌّ وَلَا نَصْرَانِيٌّ وَمَاتَ وَلَمْ يُؤْمِنْ بِالَّذِي أُرْسِلْتُ بِهِ إِلَّا كَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّارِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: By Him in Whose hand is my soul! Whoever hears about me, whether he is from this Ummah, or a Jew, or a Christian, and then dies without believing in the Shari’ah that I have brought, he will be among the people of Hell.
Hadith 5311
عَنْهُ أَيْضًا مِنْ حَدِيثٍ طَوِيلٍ فِي قِصَّةٍ آخَرَ رَجُلٌ يَخْرُجُ مِنَ النَّارِ قَالَ وَيَبْقَى رَجُلٌ يُقْبِلُ بِوَجْهِهِ إِلَى النَّارِ فَيَقُولُ أَيْ رَبِّ قَدْ قَشَبَنِي رِيحُهَا وَأَحْرَقَنِي ذَكَاؤُهَا فَاصْرِفْ وَجْهِي عَنِ النَّارِ فَلَا يَزَالُ يَدْعُو اللَّهَ حَتَّى يَقُولَ فَلَعَلِّي إِنْ أَعْطَيْتُكَ ذَلِكَ أَنْ تَسْأَلَنِي غَيْرَهُ فَيَقُولُ لَا وَعِزَّتِكَ لَا أَسْأَلُكَ غَيْرَهُ الْحَدِيثَ
It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him. This is a lengthy hadith, in which the incident of the last person to come out of Hell is mentioned. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: One man will remain; when he turns his face towards the Fire, he will say: O my Lord! The foul air of the Fire has harmed me and its blaze has burnt me, so turn my face away from it. Then he will continue to supplicate to Allah Almighty until Allah says: Perhaps if I grant you this, you will begin to ask Me for something else? He will say: No, by Your honor! I will not ask You for anything else besides this... .
Hadith 5312
وَجَاءَ فِي حَدِيثِ الْإِفْكِ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَامَ فَاسْتَعْذَرَ مِنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أُبَيٍّ فَقَامَ أُسَيْدُ بْنُ حُضَيْرٍ فَقَالَ لِسَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَادَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا لَعَمْرُ اللَّهِ لَنَقْتُلَنَّهُ الْحَدِيثَ
In the lengthy hadith of Ifk, it is mentioned that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up and made an excuse regarding Abdullah bin Ubayy, but Sayyiduna Usayd bin Hudayr (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and said to Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him): By Allah’s life! We will certainly, certainly kill him, … .
Hadith 5313
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمَّرَ أُسَامَةَ عَلَى قَوْمٍ فَطَعَنَ النَّاسُ فِي إِمَارَتِهِ فَقَالَ إِنْ تَطْعَنُوا فِي إِمَارَتِهِ فَقَدْ طَعَنْتُمْ فِي إِمَارَةِ أَبِيهِ وَايْمُ اللَّهِ إِنْ كَانَ لَخَلِيقًا لِلْإِمَارَةِ الْحَدِيثَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) appointed Sayyiduna Usama (may Allah be pleased with him) as the leader of some people, but when people criticized his leadership, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If you criticize his leadership, then you must have also criticized his father's leadership. By Allah, he is indeed worthy of leadership.
