بَابُ مَنْ حَلَفَ بِاللَّاتِ وَالْعُزَّى وَمَنْ قَالَ لِصَاحِبِهِ: تَعَالَ أَقَامِرُكَ
Chapter on Whoever Swears by al-Lat and al-Uzza, and Whoever Says to His Companion: "Come, Let Us Gamble"
Hadith 5302
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ حَلَفَ فَقَالَ فِي حَلِفِهِ وَاللَّاتِ فَلْيَقُلْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَمَنْ قَالَ لِصَاحِبِهِ تَعَالَ أُقَامِرْكَ فَلْيَتَصَدَّقْ بِشَيْءٍ
Narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever swears an oath and in his oath says, "By al-Lat," then he should say: "There is no god but Allah." And whoever says to his companion, "Come, let us gamble," then he should give some charity.
Hadith 5303
عَنْ مُصْعَبِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ حَلَفْتُ بِاللَّاتِ وَالْعُزَّى فَقَالَ أَصْحَابِي قَدْ قُلْتَ هُجْرًا فَأَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقُلْتُ إِنَّ الْعَهْدَ كَانَ قَرِيبًا وَإِنِّي حَلَفْتُ بِاللَّاتِ وَالْعُزَّى فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قُلْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ ثَلَاثًا ثُمَّ انْفُثْ عَنْ يَسَارِكَ ثَلَاثًا وَتَعَوَّذْ وَلَا تَعُدْ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I swore by Lat and ‘Uzza. My companions said to me: You have spoken an evil word. So I came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: Our time of ignorance is still near, and I have sworn by Lat and ‘Uzza. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Say three times, “There is no god but Allah, alone,” then spit three times to your left and seek refuge (in Allah), and do not swear such an oath again.
