Chapter on What Has Been Reported Regarding Supplicating for Horses
Hadith 5203
عَنْ أَبِي شِمَاسَةَ أَنَّ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنَ حُدَيْجٍ مَرَّ عَلَى أَبِي ذَرٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ عِنْدَ فَرَسٍ لَهُ فَسَأَلَهُ مَا تُعَالِجُ مِنْ فَرَسِكَ هَذَا فَقَالَ إِنِّي أَظُنُّ أَنَّ هَذَا الْفَرَسَ قَدْ اسْتُجِيبَ لَهُ دَعْوَتُهُ قَالَ وَمَا دُعَاءُ الْبَهِيمَةِ مِنَ الْبَهَائِمِ قَالَ وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ مَا مِنْ فَرَسٍ إِلَّا وَهُوَ يَدْعُو كُلَّ سَحَرٍ فَيَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ خَوَّلْتَنِي عَبْدًا مِنْ عِبَادِكَ وَجَعَلْتَ رِزْقِي بِيَدِهِ فَاجْعَلْنِي أَحَبَّ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ أَهْلِهِ وَمَالِهِ وَوَلَدِهِ قَالَ أَبِي وَوَافَقَهُ عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ عَنِ ابْنِ شِمَاسَةَ
It is narrated from Abu Shamasah, he says: Muawiyah bin Hudayj passed by Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) and he was standing by his horse. He asked him that he is always occupied with his horse. Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I think that the prayer of this horse is accepted. He said: What is the reality of the prayer of an animal among the animals? He said: By the One in Whose hand is my soul! There is no horse except that at the time of suhoor it prays: O Allah! You have entrusted me to one of Your servants among Your servants and placed my sustenance in his hand, so make me more beloved to him than his family, wealth, and children. Imam Ahmad said: Amr bin Harith has agreed with Ibn Shamasah in narrating this.
Hadith 5204
عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ حُدَيْجٍ عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ مِنْ فَرَسٍ عَرَبِيٍّ إِلَّا يُؤْذَنُ لَهُ مَعَ كُلِّ فَجْرٍ يَدْعُو بِدَعْوَتَيْنِ يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ خَوَّلْتَنِي مَنْ خَوَّلْتَنِي مِنْ بَنِي آدَمَ فَاجْعَلْنِي مِنْ أَحَبِّ أَهْلِهِ وَمَالِهِ إِلَيْهِ أَوْ أَحَبَّ أَهْلِهِ وَمَالِهِ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ أَبِي خَالَفَهُ عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ فَقَالَ عَنْ يَزِيدَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ شِمَاسَةَ وَقَالَ لَيْثٌ عَنْ أَبِي شِمَاسَةَ أَيْضًا
It is narrated from Muawiyah bin Hudaij, who says that Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Every Arabian horse is permitted to make two supplications at every dawn. So it says: O Allah! Whomever among the children of Adam You assign me to, make me more beloved to him than his family and wealth. Imam Ahmad said: Amr bin Harith differed in this and said: Yazid from Abdur Rahman bin Shumasah, and Laith also said: from Abu Shumasah.
