Hadith 5197
Sharhabeel bin Muslim Khaulani says: Ruh bin Zinba’ came to meet Sayyiduna Tamim Dari (may Allah be pleased with him) and found him in the state that he was cleaning barley for his horse, and his wife and children were sitting around him. Ruh said: Is there not among these people a servant who could suffice you in this task? Sayyiduna Tamim (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Yes, of course, but the real matter is that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: “When a Muslim man cleans barley for his horse and feeds it to him, then for every single grain, a good deed is written for him.”

Sayyiduna Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from Sayyiduna Suhail bin Hanzaliyah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said to us: The one who spends on a horse in the way of Allah is like a person who has spread out his hands with charity and does not close them.

Hadith 5200
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Utbah bin Abd Salma (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade cutting the hair of a horse’s neck, tail, and forehead, and said: The tails of horses drive away (flies and the like), the hair of the neck protects them from the cold, and as for the foreheads—how excellent they are, for Allah Almighty has attached goodness to them until the Day of Resurrection.
