Hadith 4925
Narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) set out towards Badr, he came out and consulted the people. First, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) gave his opinion. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) consulted again, and this time Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) gave his opinion, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) remained silent. Then an Ansari man spoke and said: "O Ansar! The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) wants an answer from you." So they said: "O Messenger of Allah! By Allah, we will not say to you what the Children of Israel said to Musa (peace be upon him): 'You and your Lord go and fight; indeed, we are sitting right here.' But rather, by Allah! If you travel with your camels to Bark al-Ghamad, we will surely remain with you."

Imam Hasan Basri says: Sayyiduna Ma'qil bin Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him) fell ill, and the illness weighed heavily upon him. Ibn Ziyad came to visit him, and he said: I will narrate to you a hadith I heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace be upon him) said: Whoever is made responsible for the care of the common people, but does not act with goodwill towards them, will not even smell the fragrance of Paradise, though its fragrance can be perceived from a distance of one hundred years. Ibn Ziyad said: Why did you not narrate this hadith to me before now? He replied: Even now, if it were not for the situation you are in, I would not have narrated it to you. In another narration: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah Almighty appoints someone as responsible for the care of the common people, but if he dies on the day of his death while deceiving them, Allah makes Paradise forbidden for such a person. In another narration: Sayyiduna Ma'qil bin Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The guardian who is entrusted with the care of the people, but betrays them, will be in the Fire. In another narration: It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ma'qil (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whether the community is small or large, whoever becomes its ruler and does not act justly among them, Allah will throw him face down into Hell.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Mu'adh Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: We camped with Abdullah bin Abdul Malik in the land of Rome near the fortress of Sinan. The people narrowed the camping places and the path was cut off. Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O people! We participated in such and such expeditions with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Once, the people narrowed the path. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a caller to them, who announced: Whoever has narrowed the place of stay or cut off the path, his jihad will not be accepted.
