Hadith 4813
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, came to his companions while they were sitting. He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Shall I tell you who is the best man in terms of rank? They said: Yes, indeed, O Messenger of Allah! He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: He is the man who holds the reins of his horse in the way of Allah, until he dies or is killed. Shall I tell you about the person whose rank is after him? They said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah! He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: He is the man who, secluded in a mountain pass, establishes prayer and pays zakat, and keeps away from the evils of people. Now, shall I tell you whose rank is the worst? They said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah! He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: He is the man who is asked in the name of Allah, but still does not give.
Hadith 4814
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that on the day when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) addressed the people at Tabuk, he also said: There is no one among the people like the man who, holding the reins of his horse and avoiding the evils of people, is striving in the way of Allah. And that man is also unparalleled who, living in the blessings of the countryside, hosts guests and fulfills his due rights.
Hadith 4815
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever strives in the way of Allah even for the time it takes to milk a she-camel, Paradise becomes obligatory for him. (Fawaq refers to the time in which a she-camel lets down her milk for the milker.) And whoever sincerely asks Allah for martyrdom, and then dies a natural death or is martyred, in any case, he will receive the reward of a martyr. Whoever is wounded in the way of Allah or afflicted with any other calamity, that wound will be such on the Day of Resurrection that it will bleed more, its color will be like saffron, and its fragrance will be like musk. And whoever is wounded in the way of Allah, upon him will be the seal of the martyrs. Aghzar and Aghar have the same meaning; it is only a difference among the narrators.
Hadith 4816
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Our Lord is amazed at two men: one is the man who rises from among his bed, blanket, wife, and tribe to perform prayer. Allah Almighty says: O angels! Look at My servant; he has stood up for prayer, leaving his bed, blanket, tribe, and wife, desiring that which is with Me and fearing that which is with Me. And the second is the man who fought in the path of Allah. It so happened that his army was defeated, but when he realized how great a sin it is to flee and how much reward there is in returning to the enemy, he turned back towards the enemy until his blood was shed. His action was out of desire for that which is with Me and to avoid that which is with Me. Thus, Allah Almighty says to His angels: Look at My servant; he returned out of desire for My rewards and fear of My punishment, until his blood was shed.
Hadith 4817
Narrated by Sayyiduna Nu’man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The example of one who strives in the path of Allah is like that of a person who fasts during the day and stands in prayer at night, until the warrior returns, whenever he returns.
Hadith 4818
Narrated from Sayyiduna Amr bin Abasah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever shoots an arrow and it reaches (its target), whether it hits the mark or not, he will be like the one who has freed a neck from among the descendants of Ismail (peace be upon him).
Hadith 4819
Sayyiduna Shurahbil bin Simt (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Murrah (may Allah be pleased with him): O Ka'b bin Murrah! Narrate to us a hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), but be cautious. He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: O skilled ones! Shoot arrows; whoever's arrow reaches the enemy, Allah Almighty will raise him by one rank. Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Abi Naham (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! What is a rank? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: That rank is not like the threshold of your mother, rather the distance between two ranks is as much as the journey of one hundred years.
Hadith 4820
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said, relating from his Lord: "Whoever of My servants sets out in My path to strive for My pleasure, I guarantee that if I return him, I will return him with reward and spoils; and if I seize his soul, I will forgive him, have mercy on him, and admit him into Paradise."
Hadith 4821
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The feet that become dusty in the way of Allah will be made unlawful for the Fire.
Hadith 4822
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Amr bin Abasah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever strives in the way of Allah even for the duration of a camel’s milking interval, Allah will make the Fire forbidden for his face.
Hadith 4823
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: To set out in the way of Allah in the morning or evening once is better than the world and whatever is in it. A place in Paradise equal to the size of a bow or a whip is better than the world and whatever is in it. If one of the wives of the people of Paradise were to look towards the earth, she would fill the space between the earth and the sky with fragrance and make everything therein pure. The veil of a woman of Paradise is better than the world and whatever is in it.
Hadith 4824
Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa’d Sa’idi (may Allah be pleased with him) has also narrated a hadith of the same kind.
Hadith 4825
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man from among the Companions of the Messenger passed by a valley in which there was a spring of sweet water, and its fragrance greatly pleased him. He said (in his heart): If I separate myself from the people and settle in this valley... but first I will consult the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When he mentioned this to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: (Do not do so, because) your staying in the path of Allah is better than sixty years of worship among your family. Do you not wish that Allah should forgive you and admit you to Paradise! Strive in the path of Allah; whoever strives in the path of Allah for the duration between two milkings of a she-camel, Paradise becomes obligatory for him.
Hadith 4826
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No person who weeps out of fear of Allah will enter the Fire, until the milk returns to the udder. Never will the dust in the path of Allah and the smoke of Hell be combined in a man's two nostrils. Abu Abdur Rahman, the narrator, said: In a Muslim's two nostrils.
Hadith 4827
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever kills a disbeliever and then continues on the path of righteousness, he will not enter the Fire.
Hadith 4828
(Second chain) Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A disbeliever and his Muslim killer will never be together in Hell.
Hadith 4829
Abu Bakr bin Abdullah says: In the presence of the enemies, I heard my father saying: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, saying: The gates of Paradise are under the shadows of swords. A disheveled man stood up and said: O Abu Musa! Did you hear this hadith from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him? He said: Yes. Then he returned to his companions and said: I bid you all peace, then he broke the sheath of his sword and threw it away, took his sword and set out, and began to strike the enemies with it, until he himself was martyred.
Hadith 4830
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Darda’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: Allah Almighty will not combine the dust of the path of Allah and the smoke of Hell in the belly of any man. Whose feet become dusty in the path of Allah, Allah will make the rest of his body forbidden to the Fire. Whoever fasts for one day in the path of Allah, Allah will distance him from the Fire by a journey of a thousand years, while the one covering this distance is a swift rider. Whoever is wounded in the path of Allah, a seal of the martyrs will be placed upon him; that wound will be a light for him on the Day of Resurrection, its color will be like saffron and its fragrance like musk. The former and the latter will recognize him; people will say: “This man has the seal of the martyrs.” And whoever strives in the path of Allah for the duration between two milkings of a she-camel, Paradise becomes obligatory for him.
Hadith 4831
Abu Musabbih narrates from Awza'i, he says: We were walking on the open road entering the Qalamiyah region of the land of Rome, when Malik bin Abdullah Khath'ami, who was the leader, called out to a man who was walking at the foot of the mountain. The leader said: O Abu Abdullah! Will you not ride? For I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: Whoever's two feet become dusty in the way of Allah for some part of the day, Allah will make the Fire forbidden for him.
Hadith 4832
Narrated from Sayyiduna Malik bin Abdullah Khath’ami (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The person whose two feet become dusty in the path of Allah, Allah Almighty will make him forbidden for the Fire.
Hadith 4833
Sahl narrates from his father that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, ordered his companions to go on a military expedition. One man stayed behind and said to his family: My purpose in staying behind is that I may perform the Zuhr prayer with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, then bid him farewell with salutations, and he, peace and blessings be upon him, will supplicate for me in such a way that it will be a means of intercession for me on the Day of Resurrection. So when the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, performed the prayer and that man turned towards him with salutations, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to him: Do you know how much those people have surpassed you? He said: Yes, they set out in the morning (and I will set out now after Zuhr). The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: By Him in Whose hand is my soul! They have surpassed you in virtue and greatness by so much that it is more than the distance between the two Easts and the two Wests.
Hadith 4834
Sahl narrates from his father that a woman came to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! My husband has gone out for jihad, and I used to pray following his lead and perform the good deeds that he used to do. Now, tell me of an act that will raise me to the level of his deeds until he returns. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Are you able to stand in prayer continuously without pause, fast without breaking, and remember Allah without showing any laziness until your husband returns? She said: O Messenger of Allah! I do not have the strength for such deeds. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: By Him in Whose hand is my soul! Even if you had the strength for it, you would not reach even a tenth of your husband's deeds until he returns.
Hadith 4835
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, sent Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Rawahah, may Allah be pleased with him, with an army. It was Friday. He sent his companions ahead and said about himself: I will stay behind so that I may perform the Friday prayer with the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and then join them. When the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, saw him, he said: What prevented you from setting out with your companions in the morning? He said: My intention was to perform the Friday prayer with you and then join them. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Even if you spend all that is in the earth, you will not attain the reward of their setting out in the morning.
Hadith 4836
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Salamah bin Nufail (may Allah be pleased with him) that he went to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: I have become weary of the horse, have thrown away my weapons, war has laid down its burdens, and jihad has ended. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Now fighting has just begun. A group from my Ummah will remain dominant over the people; Allah Almighty will continue to turn the hearts of the people, so they will keep fighting them. In this way, Allah Almighty will provide them sustenance through them, until the command of Allah comes, and that group will remain in that state. Beware! The real center of the believers will be Syria, and goodness has been placed in the forelocks of horses until the Day of Resurrection.
