فَضْلُ الْجِهَادِ وَالرِّبَاطِ وَالْمُجَاهِدِينَ ¤ فَضْلُ الْجِهَادِ وَالتَّرْغِيْبِ فِيهِ
The Virtue of Jihad, Guarding the Frontiers, and the Mujahideen; The Virtue of Jihad and Encouragement for It
Hadith 4782
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ سَأَلَ رَجُلٌ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَيُّ الْأَعْمَالِ أَفْضَلُ قَالَ الْإِيمَانُ بِاللَّهِ قَالَ ثُمَّ مَاذَا قَالَ الْجِهَادُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ قَالَ ثُمَّ مَاذَا قَالَ ثُمَّ حَجٌّ مَبْرُورٌ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): "Which deed is the most virtuous?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "Faith in Allah, the Exalted." He said: "Then which?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "Striving in the path of Allah, the Exalted." He said: "Then which?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "Then Hajj Mabroor (an accepted pilgrimage)."
Hadith 4783
عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَيُّ الْعَمَلِ أَفْضَلُ قَالَ إِيمَانٌ بِاللَّهِ تَعَالَى وَجِهَادٌ فِي سَبِيلِهِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I said, "O Messenger of Allah! Which deed is the best?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "To have faith in Allah and to strive in His path."
Hadith 4784
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ لَوَدِدْتُ أَنْ أُقَاتِلَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَأُقْتَلَ ثُمَّ أُحْيَا ثُمَّ أُقْتَلَ ثُمَّ أُحْيَا ثُمَّ أُقْتَلَ ثُمَّ أُحْيَا ثُمَّ أُقْتَلَ وَلَوْلَا أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ مَا تَخَلَّفْتُ خَلْفَ سَرِيَّةٍ تَخْرُجُ أَوْ تَغْزُو فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ وَلَكِنْ لَا أَجِدُ سَعَةً فَأَحْمِلَهُمْ وَلَا يَجِدُونَ سَعَةً فَيَتَّبِعُونِي وَلَا تَطِيبُ أَنْفُسُهُمْ أَنْ يَتَخَلَّفُوا بَعْدِي أَوْ يَقْعُدُوا بَعْدِي
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: By Him in Whose hand is the life of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! I wish to fight in the way of Allah, then be martyred, then be brought back to life and then be martyred again, then be brought back to life and then be martyred again, then be brought back to life and then be martyred again. And if I did not consider it hard upon the believers, I would never stay behind from any army that fights in the way of Allah, but I do not have enough means to provide them with mounts, and they also do not have enough means to prepare themselves and go with me, and their souls do not allow them to stay behind from me.
Hadith 4785
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ حَدَّثَهُ قَالَ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ عَلِّمْنِي عَمَلًا يَعْدِلُ الْجِهَادَ قَالَ لَا أَجِدُهُ قَالَ هَلْ تَسْتَطِيعُ إِذَا خَرَجَ الْمُجَاهِدُ أَنْ تَدْخُلَ مَسْجِدًا فَتَقُومَ لَا تَفْتُرُ وَتَصُومَ لَا تُفْطِرُ قَالَ لَا أَسْتَطِيعُ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ إِنَّ فَرَسَ الْمُجَاهِدِ يَسْتَنُّ فِي طِوَلِهِ فَيُكْتَبُ لَهُ حَسَنَاتٍ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! Tell me of an action that is equal to jihad. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I do not find any such action. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Can you manage, when the mujahid goes out (for jihad), to enter the mosque and remain continuously in prayer without becoming weary, and to fast continuously without breaking your fast? He said: I do not have the strength for that. Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When the mujahid’s horse walks within the area of its tether, even for that walking, good deeds are written for him.
Hadith 4786
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَخْبِرْنَا بِعَمَلٍ يَعْدِلُ الْجِهَادَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ قَالَ لَا تُطِيقُونَهُ مَرَّتَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلَاثًا قَالَ قَالُوا أَخْبِرْنَا فَلَعَلَّنَا نُطِيقُهُ قَالَ مَثَلُ الْمُجَاهِدِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ كَمَثَلِ الصَّائِمِ الْقَائِمِ الْقَانِتِ بِآيَاتِ اللَّهِ لَا يَفْتُرُ مِنْ صِيَامٍ وَلَا صَلَاةٍ حَتَّى يَرْجِعَ الْمُجَاهِدُ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Companions said: O Messenger of Allah! Tell us about an action that is equal to striving (jihad) in the way of Allah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You do not have the ability to do that. He said this two or three times. The people said: Please tell us, perhaps we might have the ability to do it? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The example of the one who strives (mujahid) is like that of a person who fasts continuously and stands in prayer with the verses of Allah continuously, neither tiring from fasting nor from prayer, until the mujahid returns to his family.
Hadith 4787
عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لِكُلِّ نَبِيٍّ رَهْبَانِيَّةٌ وَرَهْبَانِيَّةُ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ الْجِهَادُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ
Narrated by Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Every prophet has his own asceticism, and the asceticism of this Ummah is striving in the way of Allah.
Hadith 4788
عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ غَدْوَةٌ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ أَوْ رَوْحَةٌ خَيْرٌ مِمَّا طَلَعَتْ عَلَيْهِ الشَّمْسُ وَغَرَبَتْ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub Ansari, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: To set out once in the morning or evening in the way of Allah is better than all those things upon which the sun rises and sets.
Hadith 4789
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ غَدْوَةٌ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ أَوْ رَوْحَةٌ خَيْرٌ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا وَمَا فِيهَا
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Huraira, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: To set out once in the morning or evening in the path of Allah is better than the world and whatever is in it.
Hadith 4790
عَنْ جَابِرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَيُّ الْجِهَادِ أَفْضَلُ قَالَ مَنْ عُقِرَ جَوَادُهُ وَأُهْرِيقَ دَمُهُ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the noble Companions (may Allah be pleased with them all) said: O Messenger of Allah! Which jihad is the most excellent? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The one whose horse’s legs are cut and his own blood is shed.
Hadith 4791
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَفْلَةٌ كَغَزْوَةٍ
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The return from jihad is just like jihad itself.
Hadith 4792
عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا أَنَّ مُكَاتَبًا لَهَا دَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا بِبَقِيَّةِ مُكَاتَبَتِهِ فَقَالَتْ لَهُ أَنْتَ غَيْرُ دَاخِلٍ عَلَيَّ غَيْرَ مَرَّتِكَ هَذِهِ فَعَلَيْكَ بِالْجِهَادِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ مَا خَالَطَ قَلْبَ امْرِئٍ مُسْلِمٍ رَهَجٌ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ إِلَّا حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ النَّارَ
It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that her mukatab (contracted slave) came to her with the remaining portion of his contract. She said: After this, do not enter upon me; adhere to jihad in the way of Allah, for I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Whoever’s heart is touched by the dust of Allah’s path, Allah will make the Fire forbidden for him.
