It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to come to us, I had a little brother, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to laugh with him. He had a small bird, like a chick, with which he used to play. One day, that bird with which he used to play died. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came one day and, seeing my brother sad, said: What happened to Abu Umair, he looks sad? People informed that his bird, with which he used to play, has died. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Abu Umair! What did the little bird do? O Abu Umair! What did the little bird do?

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I and Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) were companions during the expedition of Dhat al-‘Ushayrah. So we lay down and slept on the ground under the shade of some date-palm trees. By Allah! None woke us except the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); he moved us with his leg, while we were covered in dust. On that day, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): O Abu Turab! (the man of dust).
Hadith 4773
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, he says: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, gave me a kunyah with the name of a certain vegetable which I used to pick, while I was still a boy.
Hadith 4774
It is narrated from Hamzah bin Suhaib that Sayyiduna Suhaib (may Allah be pleased with him) had adopted the kunyah (patronymic) of Abu Yahya, and he used to say that he was from among the Arabs, and he used to feed food in large quantities. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: O Suhaib! What has happened to you, you have adopted the kunyah of Abu Yahya while you have no children, and you say that you are from among the Arabs, and you feed food in large quantities—this is extravagance in wealth? Sayyiduna Suhaib (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave me this kunyah.
Hadith 4775
It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), she says: I said to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him): O Messenger of Allah! All your other wives have a kunyah (honorific title), so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: You may take the kunyah of Umm Abdullah. In another narration, he said: Take the kunyah after your son Abdullah. Thus, Sayyida Aisha was called Umm Abdullah until her death, even though she had no children.
Hadith 4776
Abu Jubairah bin Dhahhak Ansari narrates from his uncles that when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived in Madinah Munawwarah, each of us had one or two nicknames. So when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would call someone by his nickname, we would say: O Messenger of Allah! That person dislikes this nickname. Then at that time this verse was revealed: {وَلا تَنَابَزُوا بِالألْقَابِ} … and do not call one another by offensive nicknames (Surah Al-Hujurat: 11).
