Hadith 4743
عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ كَانَ أَحَبَّ الْأَسْمَاءِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the most beloved names to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) were Abdullah and Abdur Rahman.
Hadith 4744
عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِنَّ مِنْ أَحْسَنِ أَسْمَائِكُمْ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ وَعَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ
(Second chain) The Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Indeed, among your best names are Abdullah and Abdur Rahman.
Hadith 4745
عَنْ أَبِي وَهْبٍ الْجُشَمِيِّ وَكَانَتْ لَهُ صُحْبَةٌ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَسَمَّوْا بِأَسْمَاءِ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ وَأَحَبُّ الْأَسْمَاءِ إِلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ وَأَصْدَقُهَا حَارِثٌ وَهَمَّامٌ وَأَقْبَحُهَا حَرْبٌ وَمُرَّةُ وَارْتَبِطُوا الْخَيْلَ وَامْسَحُوا بِنَوَاصِيهَا وَأَعْجَازِهَا أَوْ قَالَ وَأَكْفَالِهَا وَقَلِّدُوهَا وَلَا تُقَلِّدُوهَا الْأَوْتَارَ وَعَلَيْكُمْ بِكُلِّ كُمَيْتٍ أَغَرَّ مُحَجَّلٍ أَوْ أَشْقَرَ أَغَرَّ مُحَجَّلٍ أَوْ أَدْهَمَ أَغَرَّ مُحَجَّلٍ
Sayyiduna Abu Wahb Jashmi, may Allah be pleased with him, who had the honor of companionship, narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Name yourselves with the names of the noble Prophets, and the most beloved names to Allah Almighty are Abdullah and Abdur Rahman. The truest names are Harith and Hammam. The worst names are Harb and Murrah. Keep horses tied and touch their foreheads and their hindquarters or their loins. Put collars on them, but do not put collars made of hemp. And you should pay attention to a black or red horse with whiteness on its forehead and legs, or a white horse with a reddish tinge with whiteness on its forehead and legs, or a black horse with whiteness on its forehead and legs.
Hadith 4746
عَنْ خَيْثَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي سَبْرَةَ أَنَّ أَبَاهُ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ ذَهَبَ مَعَ جَدِّهِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا اسْمُ ابْنِكَ قَالَ عَزِيزٌ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا تُسَمِّهِ عَزِيزًا وَلَكِنْ سَمِّهِ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنَّ خَيْرَ الْأَسْمَاءِ وَفِي لَفْظٍ إِنَّ مِنْ خَيْرِ أَسْمَائِكُمْ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ وَالْحَارِثُ
It is narrated from Haisamah bin Abdur Rahman bin Abi Sabrah that his father, Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him), went with his grandfather to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: "What is your son's name?" He replied: "Aziz." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not name him Aziz, rather name him Abdur Rahman." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, Abdullah, Abdur Rahman, and Harith are the best of names."
Hadith 4747
عَنْ سَبْرَةَ بْنِ أَبِي سَبْرَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ مَا وَلَدُكَ قَالَ فُلَانٌ وَفُلَانٌ وَعَبْدُ الْعُزَّى فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ هُوَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ إِنَّ أَحَقَّ أَسْمَائِكُمْ أَوْ مِنْ خَيْرِ أَسْمَائِكُمْ إِنْ سَمَّيْتُمْ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ وَالْحَارِثُ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sabrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he went to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: "What are the names of your children?" He said: "So-and-so, so-and-so, and Abd al-Uzza." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He is Abd al-Rahman (not Abd al-Uzza). If you wish to name (your children), then the best names are Abdullah, Abd al-Rahman, and Harith."
