بَابُ الْأَمْرِ بِالْعَقِيقَةِ لِلْغُلَامِ وَالْجَارِيَةِ
Chapter on the Command for 'Aqiqah for Boys and Girls
Hadith 4728
عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ نُعِقَّ عَنِ الْجَارِيَةِ شَاةً وَعَنِ الْغُلَامِ شَاتَيْنِ وَأَمَرَنَا بِالْفَرَعِ مِنْ كُلِّ خَمْسِ شِيَاهٍ شَاةٌ
It is narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), she says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us to sacrifice one goat for a girl and two goats for a boy as ‘Aqiqah. He also commanded us to sacrifice one goat as Fara’ out of every five goats.
Hadith 4729
عَنْ أُمِّ بَنِي كُرْزٍ الْكَعْبِيَّةِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا أَنَّهَا سَأَلَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ الْعَقِيقَةِ فَقَالَ عَنِ الْغُلَامِ شَاتَانِ مُكَافَأَتَانِ وَعَنِ الْجَارِيَةِ شَاةٌ قُلْتُ لِعَطَاءٍ مَا الْمُكَافَأَتَانِ قَالَ الْمِثْلَانِ
It is narrated from Sayyida Umm Bani Karz Ka'biyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about 'Aqiqah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Two similar goats for a boy and one goat for a girl." The narrator says: I asked 'Ata: What is meant by "al-mukafa'atan"? He said: "Similar."
Hadith 4730
عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ يَزِيدَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ الْعَقِيقَةُ حَقٌّ عَنِ الْغُلَامِ شَاتَانِ مُكَافَأَتَانِ وَعَنِ الْجَارِيَةِ شَاةٌ
It is narrated from Sayyida Asma bint Yazid (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Aqeeqah is a right; for a boy, two similar goats and for a girl, one goat will be sacrificed.
Hadith 4731
عَنْ سِبَاعِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ سَمِعْتُ مِنْ أُمِّ كُرْزٍ الْكَعْبِيَّةِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا الَّتِي تُحَدِّثُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَتْ سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِالْحُدَيْبِيَّةِ وَذَهَبْتُ أَطْلُبُ مِنَ اللَّحْمِ عَنِ الْغُلَامِ شَاتَانِ وَعَنِ الْجَارِيَةِ شَاةٌ لَا يَضُرُّكُمْ ذُكْرَانًا كُنَّ أَوْ إِنَاثًا قَالَتْ وَسَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ أَقِرُّوا الطَّيْرَ عَلَى مَكِنَاتِهَا
It is narrated from Sayyidah Umm Kurz Ka'biyyah (may Allah be pleased with her), she says: I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while I had gone to buy meat, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: For a boy, two goats and for a girl, one goat; it does not matter whether they are male or female. And I also heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: Let the bird sit in its place.
Hadith 4732
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَقَّ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ وَالْحُسَيْنِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) performed ‘Aqiqah on behalf of Sayyiduna Hasan and Sayyiduna Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them both).
Hadith 4733
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ بْنُ عَطَاءٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَوْنٍ وَسَعِيدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ عَنْ سَلْمَانَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ مَعَ الْغُلَامِ عَقِيقَتُهُ فَأَهْرِيقُوا عَنْهُ الدَّمَ وَأَمِيطُوا عَنْهُ الْأَذَى قَالَ وَكَانَ ابْنُ سِيرِينَ يَقُولُ إِنْ لَمْ تَكُنْ إِمَاطَةُ الْأَذَى حَلْقَ الرَّأْسِ فَلَا أَدْرِي مَا هُوَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Salman bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘Aqiqah is performed for the child, so shed blood on his behalf and remove harm from him.’ Ibn Sirin said: If removing harm does not mean shaving the head, then I do not know what it means.
