Hadith 4496
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: When Gabriel took Ibrahim (peace be upon him) towards Jamrah al-Aqabah, Satan appeared before him. Ibrahim (peace be upon him) threw seven pebbles at him, so he sank into the earth. After that, when Ibrahim (peace be upon him) came to Jamrah al-Wusta, Satan appeared before him again. He (peace be upon him) threw seven pebbles at him again, so he sank into the earth. After that, Ibrahim (peace be upon him) went to Jamrah al-Quswa, and there too Satan appeared before him. He (peace be upon him) threw seven pebbles at him there as well, so he sank into the earth. After that, when Ibrahim (peace be upon him) intended to sacrifice his son Ishaq (peace be upon him), he said to his father: O my father! Tie me up so that when you slaughter me, I do not struggle and thus my blood does not fall upon you. Ibrahim (peace be upon him) tied him up, and when he took up the knife, a voice came from behind: O Ibrahim! You have fulfilled the vision.
Hadith 4497
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me on the morning of Muzdalifah: Come here, pick up pebbles for me. So I brought for him small pebbles (the size of chickpeas or beans), and he took them in his hand and said: Yes! Pebbles should be exactly like this. Beware of exceeding the limits in religion, for those before you were destroyed because of exaggeration in religion.
Hadith 4498
It is narrated from the mother of Sulaiman bin Amr (Sayyida Umm Jundub Azdiyyah) رضي الله عنها, she says: I saw the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم on the tenth of Dhul-Hijjah, that he صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم stoned the Jamrah of Aqabah from the middle of the valley and said: O people! Do not kill each other nor cause harm; when you stone the Jamrah, do so with small pebbles (the size of a chickpea or bean). Then he صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم threw seven pebbles and after that did not stay there. A man was riding behind him, who was protecting him صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم from (the people's) pebbles. I asked: Who is this? People said: This is Sayyiduna Fadl bin Abbas
Ibn Abi Najih says: I asked Tawus, if a person throws six pebbles at the Jamrah, what will happen to him? He said: He should give a handful of food in charity. After that, when I met Mujahid, I mentioned Tawus’s fatwa to him. He said: May Allah have mercy on Abu Abdur Rahman, has the statement of Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) not reached him? He says: On the occasion of Hajj with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), we performed the Rami of the Jamarat, after which we sat and talked. Someone said: I threw six pebbles, someone said: I threw seven, someone said: I threw eight, and someone said: I threw nine. Then they did not see any harm in it.
