Muhammad bin Abi Bakr Thaqafi asked Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) this question when both of them were going towards Arafah: "What would you people do on the Day of Arafah with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)?" He said: "Some of us would recite the Talbiyah, and no one would object to him, and some would recite the Takbir, and no one would object to him either."
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, that when we set out for Arafat with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, some among us were reciting the Takbir and some were calling out the Talbiyah.
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: On the morning of Arafah, we were going with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), among us were some who were saying the takbir and some who were calling out the talbiyah, however, we were saying the takbirs. Abdullah bin Abi Salamah said to Abdullah bin Abdullah bin Umar: I am greatly surprised at you, why did you not ask (Sayyiduna Abdullah, may Allah be pleased with him) what exactly the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) himself did?
