It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would descend from Safa and reach the middle of the valley, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would run until he had crossed the valley.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that he saw the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performing Sa’i between Safa and Marwah in such a manner that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had raised his cloak up to his knees.

Umm Walad (Sayyida Tamlik Abdurriyah), the mother of Sheibah bin Uthman (may Allah be pleased with her), narrates that she saw the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performing Sa’i between Safa and Marwah in such a manner that his garment was lifted from his knees, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) was saying: “This valley should only be crossed by running.”
Hadith 4397
(Second chain) A woman (i.e., Sayyida Tamlik, may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that she saw the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, through a small door, running in the valley and saying: One should only pass through this valley by running.
Hadith 4398
Abdullah bin Maqdam says: I saw Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) walking at a normal pace during the Sa'i between Safa and Marwah, so I said to him: O Abu Abdur Rahman! What is the matter, why are you not running? He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) both ran during this and also left it.
Hadith 4399
Kathir bin Jumhan says: I saw Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) between Safa and Marwah walking at a normal pace and not running. When I asked him about this, he said: If I run, I have seen the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) running here, and if I walk at a normal pace, I have seen the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) walking at a normal pace here as well, while now I have become old.
