بَابُ مَا يُقَالُ مِنَ الذِّكْرِ فِي الطَّوَافِ وَعِنْدَ الِاسْتِلَامِ وَمَا كَانَ يَقُولُهُ أَهْلُ
Chapter: What to Say in Dhikr During Tawaf and When Touching the Corners, and What the People of Mecca Used to Say
Hadith 4382
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقْرَأُ بَيْنَ الرُّكْنِ الْيَمَانِيِّ وَالْحَجَرِ: {رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ}
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Sa’ib (may Allah be pleased with him), who says: I heard that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was reciting this supplication between the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone: {رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِیْ الدُّنْیَا حَسَنَۃً وَ فِیْ الْآخِـرَۃِ حَسَنَـۃً وَقِـنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ} (O our Lord! Grant us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and save us from the punishment of the Fire). (Surah Al-Baqarah: 201)
Hadith 4383
عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَأْتِي الْبَيْتَ فَيَسْتَلِمُ الْحَجَرَ وَيَقُولُ: ((بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would enter the House of Allah and touch the Black Stone, he would recite these words: Bismillah, Allahu Akbar.
Hadith 4384
عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((إِنَّمَا جُعِلَ الطَّوَافُ بِالْبَيْتِ وَبِالصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ وَرَمْيُ الْجِمَارِ لِإِقَامَةِ ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ))
Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The circumambulation of the House of Allah (Ka'bah), the Sa'i between Safa and Marwah, and the stoning of the Jamarat—all these acts have been prescribed for the remembrance of Allah Almighty.
Hadith 4385
عَنْ طَاوُسٍ عَنْ رَجُلٍ قَدْ أَدْرَكَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ((إِنَّمَا الطَّوَفُ صَلَاةٌ، فَإِذَا طُفْتُمْ فَأَقِلُّوا الْكَلَامَ))
A companion narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Tawaf is (like) prayer, so when you perform tawaf, speak little.
Hadith 4386
عَنْ سِبَاعِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَهْلَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ يَطُوفُونَ وَهُمْ يَقُولُونَ: الْيَوْمُ قَرْنَا عَيْنَا نَقْرَعُ الْمَرْوَتَيْنَا
Siba‘ bin Thabit says: I heard the people of ignorance (Jahiliyyah) saying while performing Tawaf: “Today our eyes have found coolness that we are performing Sa‘i between Safa and Marwah.”
