بَابُ اسْتِلَامِ الرُّكْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ وَالْيَمَانِيِّ وَعَدَمِ اسْتِلَامِ الرُّكْنَيْنِ الْآخَرِينَ
Chapter: Touching the Black Stone and the Yemeni Corner, and Not Touching the Other Two Corners
Hadith 4345
عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَسْتَلِمُ الرُّكْنَ الْيَمَانِيَّ وَالْأَسْوَدَ كُلَّ طَوْفَةٍ وَلَا يَسْتَلِمُ الرُّكْنَيْنِ الْآخَرَيْنِ اللَّذَيْنِ يَلِيَانِ الْحِجْرَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform istilam (touching or kissing) of the Rukn Yamani and Hajar Aswad in every circuit while circumambulating the House of Allah, and he did not perform istilam of the two corners on the side of Hatim.
Hadith 4346
(وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ لَا يَدَعُ أَنْ يَسْتَلِمَ الْحَجَرَ وَالرُّكْنَ الْيَمَانِيَّ فِي كُلِّ طَوَافٍ
. (Second chain) The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) would not omit touching the Black Stone and the Yemeni Corner in every circuit of every circumambulation.
Hadith 4347
عَنْ سَالِمٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: لَمْ أَرَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَمْسَحُ مِنَ الْبَيْتِ إِلَّا الرُّكْنَيْنِ الْيَمَانِيَّيْنِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), he says: I saw that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform istilam (touching or kissing) of only the two Yemeni corners of the Ka'bah (i.e., Rukn Yamani and Hajar Aswad).
Hadith 4348
عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا يَسْتَلِمُ إِلَّا هَذَيْنِ الرُّكْنَيْنِ الْيَمَانِيَّ وَالْأَسْوَدَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform istilam (touching or kissing) of only two corners, namely the Rukn Yamani and the Hajar Aswad.
Hadith 4349
عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: طُفْتُ مَعَ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَلَمَّا كُنْتُ عِنْدَ الرُّكْنِ الَّذِي يَلِي الْبَابَ مِمَّا يَلِي الْحَجَرَ، أَخَذْتُ بِيَدِهِ لِيَسْتَلِمَ، فَقَالَ: أَمَا طُفْتَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ؟ قُلْتُ: بَلَى، قَالَ: فَهَلْ رَأَيْتَهُ يَسْتَلِمُهُ؟ قُلْتُ: لَا، قَالَ: فَانْفُذْ عِنْدَكَ، فَإِنَّ لَكَ فِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أُسْوَةً حَسَنَةً
Sayyiduna Ali bin Umayyah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I performed Tawaf with Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him). When I reached the corner of Hatim at the door of the Ka'bah, I took the hand of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) so that he might also touch that corner, but Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Have you performed Tawaf of the Ka'bah with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? I replied: Yes, I have. He said: Did you see the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) touch these corners? I said: No. Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Then leave it and move on, for in the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is the best example.
Hadith 4350
(وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) قَالَ: طُفْتُ مَعَ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَاسْتَلَمَ الرُّكْنَ، قَالَ يَعْلَى فَكُنْتُ مِمَّا يَلِي الْبَيْتَ، فَلَمَّا بَلَغْتُ الرُّكْنَ الْغَرْبِيَّ الَّذِي يَلِي الْأَسْوَدَ جَرَرْتُ بِيَدِهِ لِيَسْتَلِمَ، فَقَالَ: مَا شَأْنُكَ؟ فَقُلْتُ: أَلَا تَسْتَلِمُ؟ قَالَ: أَلَمْ تَطُفْ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ؟ فَقُلْتُ: بَلَى، فَقَالَ: أَفَرَأَيْتَهُ يَسْتَلِمُ هَذَيْنِ الرُّكْنَيْنِ الْغَرْبِيَّيْنِ؟ قَالَ: فَقُلْتُ: لَا، قَالَ: أَفَلَيْسَ لَكَ فِيهِ أَسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ؟ قَالَ: قُلْتُ: بَلَى، قَالَ: فَانْفُذْ عَنْكَ
(Second chain) Sayyiduna ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I performed Tawaf with Sayyiduna ‘Umar ibn Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), he performed Istilam of the Hajar al-Aswad, I was near the House of Allah, when I reached the next western corner after the Hajar al-Aswad, I held the hand of Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) so that he might perform Istilam of that corner as well, but he said ahead: What is the matter? I said: Will you not perform Istilam of this corner? He said: Did you not perform Tawaf with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? I said: Yes, I did. He said: Then did you see him perform Istilam of these western corners? I said: No. Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Then is there not the best example for you in the action of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? I said: Yes, of course. Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Then leave this and move ahead.
