Hadith 4327
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and the noble Companions arrived in Makkah Mukarramah. Due to the fever of Yathrib, these people had become weak. The polytheists began to say among themselves that people are coming to them who have been made feeble and weak by fever. Meanwhile, Allah Almighty informed the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) of their words. Therefore, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered the Companions to perform ramal (brisk walking) during tawaf. The polytheists sat towards Hatim watching them. Thus, the Muslims performed ramal during tawaf, but between Rukn Yamani and Hajar Aswad, they walked at a normal pace. Seeing them, the polytheists began to say: These are the people about whom you said that fever had made them weak; they are indeed very strong. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: Out of compassion for the Companions, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not order them to perform ramal in all the circuits.
Hadith 4328
It is narrated from Abu Tufail that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) stated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ramal (brisk walking) in the first three circuits of the Tawaf of the Ka'bah. When he reached the Yemeni Corner, he would walk at a normal pace up to the Black Stone, then resume ramal, and in the remaining four circuits, he walked at a normal pace. Then Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: In this way, this ramal is Sunnah, and this was the incident of the Farewell Pilgrimage.
Hadith 4329
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, performed seven circuits around the House of Allah, and (the first three circuits) he, peace and blessings be upon him, completed by running, so that he, peace and blessings be upon him, could show his strength to the people.
Hadith 4330
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) performed ramal in his Hajj and all his Umrahs, and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, Sayyiduna Umar, Sayyiduna Uthman, and the rest of the caliphs also performed ramal.
Hadith 4331
Narrated by Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the first circumambulation (i.e., Tawaf al-Qudum), he would walk briskly (raml) in the first three circuits and walk at a normal pace in the remaining four circuits, and when performing Sa’i between Safa and Marwah, he would run between the two markers in the valley.
Hadith 4332
It is narrated from Nafi‘ that Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to perform raml (brisk walking) in the first three circuits of tawaf and walk at a normal pace in the remaining circuits, and he used to say that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) also used to do the same. Sayyiduna Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) used to walk at a normal pace between the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone. Nafi‘ said: He used to walk between these two so that it would be easier to perform istilam (touching or gesturing) of the Black Stone.
Hadith 4333
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ramal from the Black Stone to the Black Stone.
Hadith 4334
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali bin Umayyah, may Allah be pleased with him, that when the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, arrived in Makkah Mukarramah, he had performed idtiba‘ (exposing the right shoulder) with a Hadrami sheet.
Hadith 4335
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and his companions performed ‘Umrah from Ji‘ranah, they performed idtiba‘ in such a way that they passed their sheets under their (right shoulders’) armpits and placed them over their left shoulders.
Hadith 4336
(Second chain) The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) and the Companions performed ‘Umrah from Ji‘irrana, and while circumambulating the House of Allah, they performed ramal (brisk walking) in the first three circuits and walked at a normal pace in the remaining four circuits.
Hadith 4337
Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Now what is the purpose of performing raml (walking briskly) and uncovering the shoulders during tawaf? Now Allah Almighty has given dominance to Islam and has eradicated disbelief and the people of disbelief, but even so, we will not abandon the practice that we used to do during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
