Hadith 4288
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Sa'b bin Jathamah Asadi (may Allah be pleased with him) presented the leg of a wild donkey as a gift to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), but he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not accept it and said: We are in the state of Ihram.
Hadith 4289
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa'b bin Jathamah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I was in the valley of Abwa or Waddan when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by there. I presented the meat of a wild donkey as a gift to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was in the state of Ihram. He (peace and blessings be upon him) returned it. But when he (peace and blessings be upon him) saw signs of sadness on my face, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: We did not return this meat because of any dislike; the fact is that we are in the state of Ihram.
Hadith 4290
(Second chain) Sayyiduna Sa'b bin Jathamah Laithi (may Allah be pleased with him) presented the meat of a wild donkey to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) at Abwa or Waddan, but he (peace and blessings be upon him) refused it, … .
Hadith 4291
(Third chain) This hadith is narrated similarly, except that it states: I presented the meat of a wild donkey to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), but he (peace and blessings be upon him) returned it. At the end of it, it says: I (Ibn Jurayj) asked Ibn Shihab: Was this wild donkey dead because of a hunter’s arrow? He said: I do not know.
Hadith 4292
It is narrated from Tawus that Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) came, and Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) reminded him, saying: How did you narrate to me that when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was in the state of Ihram, meat was presented to him? He said: Yes, a man presented a portion of game meat to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), but he (peace and blessings be upon him) returned it and said: We will not eat this, because we are in the state of Ihram.
Hadith 4293
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that undercooked venison meat was presented to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Since he (peace be upon him) was in the state of Ihram, he returned it and did not eat it. Sufyan said: "Washeeqa" is that which is cooked and then cut into pieces and dried.
Hadith 4294
Abdullah bin Harith bin Naufal Hashimi narrates: He says, during the time of Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), my father Harith bin Naufal was the official in charge of Makkah. When Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Makkah, I, Abdullah bin Harith, welcomed him at the place of Nazl near Qudayd. The people there had hunted a chukar bird. We cooked it in water and salt and made its broth for tharid, then we presented it to Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) and his companions, but they refrained from eating it. Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We neither hunted this nor ordered it to be hunted, and those who are not in ihram hunted it and presented it before us, so what is the harm in this? Then Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Who will clarify this issue? The people said: Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). So Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) sent for Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), and he came. Abdullah bin Harith says: I saw Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), and that scene is still before my eyes; he was shaking leaves off his palms. Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: We neither hunted this nor ordered it to be hunted, and those who are not in ihram hunted it and presented it before us, so what is the harm in this? Hearing this, Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) became angry and said: I adjure by Allah the person who was present at this incident, that when a part of a wild donkey was presented to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was in the state of ihram, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: We are in the state of ihram, feed this to those who are not in ihram. Twelve companions confirmed the statement of Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). After this, Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I adjure by Allah the person who was present with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when ostrich eggs (and according to one narration, five eggs) were presented to him, but the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: We are in the state of ihram, feed this to those who are not in ihram. This time, fewer than twelve people testified. Hearing this, Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) turned away from the food and went to his tent, and those who had brought the water ate that food.
