Hadith 4272
عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَنْ كَعْبِ بْنِ عُجْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِالْحُدَيْبِيَةِ، وَنَحْنُ مُحْرِمُونَ وَقَدْ حَصَرَنَا الْمُشْرِكُونَ وَكَانَتْ لِي وَفْرَةٌ فَجَعَلَتِ الْهَوَامُّ تَسَاقَطُ عَلَى وَجْهِي، فَمَرَّ بِي النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: ((أَيُؤْذِيكَ هَوَامُّ رَأْسِكَ؟)) قُلْتُ: نَعَمْ، فَأَمَرَهُ أَنْ يَحْلِقَ، قَالَ: وَنَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ: {فَمَنْ كَانَ مِنْكُمْ مَرِيضًا أَوْ بِهِ أَذًى مِنْ رَأْسِهِ فَفِدْيَةٌ مِنْ صِيَامٍ أَوْ صَدَقَةٍ أَوْ نُسُكٍ}
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Ujrah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: We were in the state of Ihram with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) at the place of Hudaybiyyah. The polytheists of Makkah prevented us from going forward. My hair was long and lice were falling on my face. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by me and asked: Are the lice of your head causing you trouble? I replied: Yes. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered me to shave my head, and this verse was revealed: {فَمَنْ کَانَ … أَوْصَدَقَۃٍ أَوْ نُسُکٍ} (And whoever among you is ill or has an ailment of the head, then he should shave his head and offer a ransom of fasting, or charity, or sacrifice).
Hadith 4273
(Second chain) It is narrated similarly, except that in it: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, ordered him to shave his head and said: For expiation, fast for three days, or feed six needy people in such a way that each one receives two mudd of food, or slaughter a goat. Whichever of these actions you do, it will suffice for you.
Hadith 4274
(Third chain) It is narrated similarly, except that in this version it is stated: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, ordered me to shave my head, while the Muslims were still at the place of Hudaybiyyah and they did not yet know that all of them would have to shave their heads at that place. Everyone was still hoping that they would enter Makkah. Meanwhile, Allah Almighty revealed the command of fidyah. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, ordered me to distribute one faraq among six needy people, or to fast for three days, or to sacrifice one goat.
Hadith 4275
(Fourth chain) This hadith is narrated in the same way, except that it states: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Shave your head and, as compensation, either slaughter a goat, or fast for three days, or distribute three sa’ of dates among six needy people.
Hadith 4276
(Fifth Chain) Abdullah bin Ma’qil Mazni says: I was sitting in the mosque of Kufa with Sayyiduna Ka’b bin ‘Ujrah (may Allah be pleased with him). I asked him about this verse {فَفِدْیَۃٌ مِّنْ صِیَامٍ أَوْ صَدَقَۃٍ أَوْ نُسُکٍ} (Surah Al-Baqarah: 196). He said: This verse was revealed about me. There were lice in my head, so I was brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and lice were falling on my face. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I did not think that you would be in so much pain and hardship. Are you able to slaughter a goat? I said: No. At that time, this verse was revealed: {فَفِدْیَۃٌ مِّنْ صِیَامٍ أَوْ صَدَقَۃٍ أَوْ نُسُکٍ} (Surah Al-Baqarah: 196), meaning to fast three days or feed six needy people in such a way that each one gets half a sa’. Sayyiduna Ka’b (may Allah be pleased with him) said: This verse was specifically revealed about me, but its ruling is general for all of you.
Hadith 4277
(Sixth chain) It is narrated: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Are you able to sacrifice a goat? I said: No. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then fast for three days or feed six needy people in such a way that each needy person receives half a sa’ of dates.
Hadith 4278
(Seventh Chain) Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Ujrah says: There were so many lice in my hair that I began to think that from the root to the tip of every single hair on my head, there were only lice. When the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, saw my condition, he said: Shave your head. And regarding this, this verse was revealed. Then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Feed six needy people three sa’ of dates.
Hadith 4279
(Eighth Chain) It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Ujrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered him to shave his head because of lice, and said: Fast for three days, or feed six needy people, giving two mudd to each needy person, or slaughter a goat.
