Third Section: The Duration of Talbiyah and Doing It After Prayer
Hadith 4237
وَعَنْهُ أَيْضًا رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَبَّى دُبُرَ الصَّلَاةِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited the Talbiyah after the prayer.
Hadith 4238
عَنِ ابْنِ سَخْبَرَةَ قَالَ: غَدَوْنَا مَعَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ مِنْ مِنًى إِلَى عَرَفَاتٍ، فَكَانَ يُلَبِّي، قَالَ: وَكَانَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ رَجُلًا آدَمَ، لَهُ ضَفْرَانِ عَلَيْهِ مَسْحَةُ أَهْلِ الْبَادِيَةِ، فَاجْتَمَعَ عَلَيْهِ غَوْغَاءُ مِنْ غَوْغَاءِ النَّاسِ، قَالُوا: يَا أَعْرَابِيُّ! إِنَّ هَذَا الْيَوْمَ لَيْسَ يَوْمَ تَلْبِيَةٍ إِنَّمَا هُوَ يَوْمُ تَكْبِيرٍ، قَالَ: فَعِنْدَ ذَلِكَ الْتَفَتَ إِلَيَّ فَقَالَ: أَجَهَلُ النَّاسُ أَمْ نَسُوا؟ وَالَّذِي بَعَثَ مُحَمَّدًا صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِالْحَقِّ لَقَدْ خَرَجْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَمَا تَرَكَ التَّلْبِيَةَ حَتَّى رَمَى جَمْرَةَ الْعَقَبَةِ إِلَّا أَنْ يُخْلِطَهَا بِتَكْبِيرٍ أَوْ تَهْلِيلٍ
Ibn Sanjarah says: We went from Mina to Arafat with Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), and he was reciting the Talbiyah aloud. Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) had a wheat-colored complexion, he had two locks of hair on his head, and his appearance was like that of villagers. Hearing his voice of Talbiyah, the common simple people started making noise and said: "O villager! Today is not the day of Talbiyah, it is the day of Takbirat." Hearing this, Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) looked towards me and said: "Did the people not know at all, or have they forgotten?" By the One Who sent Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) with the truth, I myself was going with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he did not abandon the Talbiyah until the stoning of Jamrah 'Aqabah. However, during this time, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would also say 'Allahu Akbar' and 'La ilaha illallah'.
Hadith 4239
عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: غَدَوْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى عَرَفَاتٍ، مِنَّا الْمُكَبِّرُ وَمِنَّا الْمُلَبِّي
Narrated by Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him): When we were going to Arafat with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), some of us were reciting Takbir and some were proclaiming Talbiyah.
Hadith 4240
عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَفَاضَ مِنْ عَرَفَاتٍ وَرِدْفُهُ أُسَامَةُ، وَأَفَاضَ مِنْ جَمْعٍ، وَرِدْفُهُ الْفَضْلُ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: وَلَبَّى حَتَّى رَمَى جَمْرَةَ الْعَقَبَةِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) departed from Arafat, Sayyiduna Usama (may Allah be pleased with him) was riding behind him on the mount, and when he departed from Muzdalifah, Sayyiduna Fadl bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) was riding behind him on the mount. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) continued reciting the Talbiyah until he stoned Jamrat al-Aqabah.
Hadith 4241
عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ قَالَ: وَقَفْتُ مَعَ الْحُسَيْنِ، فَلَمْ أَزَلْ أَسْمَعُهُ يَقُولُ لَبَّيْكَ حَتَّى رَمَى الْجَمْرَةَ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ! مَا هَذَا الْإِهْلَالُ؟ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يُهِلُّ حَتَّى انْتَهَى إِلَى الْجَمْرَةِ وَحَدَّثَنِي أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَهَلَّ حَتَّى انْتَهَى إِلَيْهَا
It is narrated from ‘Ikrimah, he says: I stood with Sayyiduna Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) and I heard that he continued reciting the Talbiyah until the stoning of Jamrah ‘Aqabah. I asked: Abu ‘Abdullah! What is this about the Talbiyah? He said: I heard Sayyiduna ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) that he continued reciting the Talbiyah until the stoning of Jamrah ‘Aqabah. Also, Sayyiduna ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) stated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recited the Talbiyah until Jamrah al-‘Aqabah.
Hadith 4242
(وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) قَالَ: أَفَضْتُ مَعَ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا مِنَ الْمُزْدَلِفَةِ فَلَمْ أَزَلْ أَسْمَعُهُ يُلَبِّي حَتَّى رَمَى جَمْرَةَ الْعَقَبَةِ، فَسَأَلْتُهُ فَقَالَ: أَفَضْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَلَمْ أَزَلْ أَسْمَعْهُ يُلَبِّي حَتَّى رَمَى جَمْرَةَ الْعَقَبَةِ
Second chain: Ikrimah says: I was coming from Muzdalifah in the company of Sayyiduna Husayn bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), and I heard that he continued reciting the Talbiyah until the stoning of Jamrah Aqabah. When I asked him about this, he said: I was coming from Muzdalifah in the company of my father, Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), and he continued reciting the Talbiyah until the stoning of Jamrah Aqabah. And he informed me that when he had come from Muzdalifah with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he had seen that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also continued reciting the Talbiyah until the stoning of Jamrah Aqabah.
Hadith 4243
عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَبَّى يَوْمَ النَّحْرِ حَتَّى رَمَى جَمْرَةَ الْعَقَبَةِ
Narrated by Sayyiduna Fadl bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) continued reciting the Talbiyah until he stoned the Jamrah ‘Aqabah on the tenth of Dhul-Hijjah.
