Ja’far’s father says: We went to Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was residing in the Banu Salamah neighborhood. We asked him about the Hajj of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) spent nine years in Madinah and during that period he did not perform Hajj. After that, it was announced among the people that this year the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was going for Hajj. Upon hearing this announcement, countless people gathered in Madinah; everyone wanted to follow the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and perform the same actions as he did. Thus, with ten days left in Dhu al-Qa’dah, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) set out on the journey, and we also departed with him.
When we reached the place of Dhu’l-Hulayfah, Sayyidah Asma bint Umays (may Allah be pleased with her) gave birth to Muhammad bin Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). She sent a message to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asking what she should do. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Take a bath, fasten a cloth, and enter into Ihram. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) moved on from there. When his mount reached al-Bayda’, he recited the words of Tawheed: “Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk, La Sharika Laka Labbayk, Inna al-Hamda wa al-Ni’mata Laka wa al-Mulk, La Sharika Laka” (Here I am, O Allah! Here I am. There is no partner for You. Here I am. All praise and blessings are for You, and sovereignty is Yours. There is no partner for You). The people with him also recited the Talbiyah. People were adding words like “Dha al-Ma’arij” (O Possessor of the Heights) and others to their Talbiyah, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) heard them, but he did not say anything to them. I saw before, behind, to the right, and to the left of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), as far as the eye could see, there were only people—some riding and some walking.
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was among us; the Qur’an would be revealed to him, and he knew its best interpretation. As he performed actions, we did likewise. We set out with the intention of Hajj. When we reached the Ka’bah, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) kissed the Black Stone, then performed Tawaf of the House, walking briskly in three circuits and walking at a normal pace in four circuits. After completing this, he came to the Station of Ibrahim and prayed two rak’ahs behind it, then recited this verse: {وَاتَّخِذُوْا مِنْ مَّقَامِ إِبْرَاہِیْمَ مُصَلًّی} … (Perform prayer at the Station of Ibrahim.) (Surah al-Baqarah: 125). In the two rak’ahs of Tawaf, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recited Surah al-Ikhlas and Surah al-Kafirun. After that, he kissed the Black Stone and proceeded towards Safa, reciting this verse: {إِنَّ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَۃَ مِنْ شَعَآئِرِ اللّٰہِ} … (Indeed, Safa and Marwah are among the symbols of Allah) (Surah al-Baqarah: 158). Then he said: We will begin with what Allah began with. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ascended Safa until he could see the House. There he said “Allahu Akbar” and recited this supplication: “La ilaha illa Allah wahdahu la sharika lahu, lahu al-mulku wa lahu al-hamdu wa huwa ‘ala kulli shay’in qadir, la ilaha illa Allah, anjaza wa’dahu wa sadaqa ‘abdahu wa ghalaba al-ahzaba wahdahu.” (There is no god but Allah, He is alone, He has no partner, sovereignty is His and praise is His, and He is over all things powerful. There is no god but Allah, He fulfilled His promise, made His servant victorious, and He alone defeated the confederates.) After that, he supplicated there.
Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) descended from Safa. When he reached the middle of the valley, he ran, and when the ascent began, he walked slowly until he reached Marwah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ascended Marwah until he could see the House, and there he supplicated as he had done at Safa. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) completed the seventh circuit at Marwah, he said: O people! If I had known what I know now, I would not have brought the sacrificial animal with me and would have made this act an ‘Umrah. Now, those who do not have a sacrificial animal should make this act an ‘Umrah and exit Ihram. So all those (who did not have a sacrificial animal) became lawful (i.e., exited Ihram).
Sayyiduna Suraqah bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), who was then below Marwah, said: O Messenger of Allah! Is this permission for ‘Umrah in these days only for this year or forever? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) interlaced the fingers of one hand into the fingers of the other hand three times and said: It is forever. Then he said: ‘Umrah has been incorporated into Hajj until the Day of Judgment.
Meanwhile, Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) came from Yemen with sacrificial animals, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had brought animals from Madinah. Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) had exited Ihram after ‘Umrah, put on colored clothes, and applied kohl, but Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) did not like this action. When he objected, she said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered me to do so. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated in Kufa that he went to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in a state of anger and said that Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) had put on colored clothes and applied kohl, and she says her father (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered her to do so. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: She is right (he said this three times), I ordered her to do so.
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): What did you say when reciting the Talbiyah? He said: I said, “My intention is the same as the intention of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then I have a sacrificial animal, so you must remain in Ihram. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) brought animals from Madinah and Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) brought animals from Yemen; their total number was one hundred. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) slaughtered sixty-three camels with his own blessed hand, and the rest were slaughtered by Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). He included him in the sacrifice. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took a piece from each camel and ordered it to be cooked. The meat was put in a pot and cooked, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) ate the meat and drank its broth.
Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I have slaughtered animals here, but the whole of Mina is a place of sacrifice. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stayed at a place in ‘Arafah and said: I have stood here, but the whole of ‘Arafah is a place of standing. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stayed at a place in Muzdalifah and said: I have stayed here, but the whole of Muzdalifah is a place of staying.
Hadith 4124
(Second chain) Up to this statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the hadith is narrated in the same way: "If I had known earlier what I have come to know now, I would not have brought the sacrificial animal with me." After this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If I had not brought the sacrificial animal with me, I too would have become halal now. Beware! Learn the rulings of Hajj." Upon hearing this, the people became halal. When the Day of Tarwiyah, that is, the 8th of Dhul-Hijjah, arrived and people began to proceed towards Mina, they recited the Talbiyah for Hajj. Sacrifice was obligatory upon those who had the means, and for those who did not have the means, fasting was prescribed. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) included seven people in the sacrifice of a cow and a camel, and for those performing Hajj Qiran, there was one Tawaf and one Sa’i for both Hajj and Umrah.
Hadith 4125
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood at Arafah, and at that time Sayyiduna Usama bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) was riding behind him on his mount. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I have stood here, however, the whole of Arafah is a place of standing. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) moved on a little quickly and the people spread out to his right and left. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned towards the people and said: O people! Calmly, O people! Gently. Until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) kept walking and reached Muzdalifah, where he combined and performed two prayers (Maghrib and Isha). Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stayed in Muzdalifah and stood at a high place called Quzah, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I have stood here, however, the whole of Muzdalifah is a place of standing. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) moved on from there, walking quickly, and the people were to his right and left. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) kept turning towards the people and saying: O people! Calmly, gently. Until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) reached the valley of Muhassir, where he struck his mount with a whip and made it run until he crossed the valley of Muhassir. Then he resumed walking at his previous pace until he reached Mina and stoned the Jamrah (Aqabah). After that, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went to the place of sacrifice and said: This is the place of sacrifice, however, the whole of Mina is a place of sacrifice. A young woman from Banu Khush'am came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked: My father has become very old, while the obligation of Hajj from Allah Almighty has become incumbent upon him, but he does not have the ability to perform it himself, so can I perform Hajj on his behalf? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Yes. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned the face of Sayyiduna Fadl bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) away from the woman. Then a man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: I have removed my Ihram and put on clothes after stoning and performing Tawaf al-Ifadah, but I have not yet shaved my head. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There is no harm, now shave your head. Another man came and said: I have put on clothes after stoning and performing Tawaf al-Ifadah, but I have not yet offered the sacrifice. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There is no harm, now offer the sacrifice. After that, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed Tawaf al-Ifadah and had a bucket of Zamzam water brought, from which he drank and performed ablution. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Banu Abdul Muttalib! If I did not fear that people would overpower you, I would also draw water from the well. Now you draw water and give it to the pilgrims to drink. Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! I saw that you turned your nephew’s (Fadl’s, may Allah be pleased with him) face away from the woman, what was the reason for that? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I saw a young man and a young woman, and I feared that Satan might attack them.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ‘Umrah along with Hajj on the occasion of the Farewell Pilgrimage, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took the sacrificial animal with him from Dhul-Hulaifah. During Ihram, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) first recited the Talbiyah for ‘Umrah and then for Hajj, and the people also performed ‘Umrah along with Hajj in the company of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Some people took the sacrificial animals with them, but some did not have sacrificial animals. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) reached Makkah, he said to the people: Those who have the sacrificial animal, whatever has become unlawful for them due to Ihram will not become lawful until the Hajj is completed. But those who do not have the sacrificial animal, after performing the Tawaf of the House of Allah and the Sa’i between Safa and Marwah, should cut their hair and come out of Ihram. Then they will enter into Ihram separately for Hajj and offer the sacrifice. Whoever does not have the ability to offer a sacrifice should fast three days during the days of Hajj and seven days after returning home. Then, when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Makkah, he performed the Tawaf of the House of Allah, first kissed the Black Stone, then in the first three of the seven circuits around the House of Allah, he performed Raml (brisk walking), and in the remaining four, he walked at a normal pace. After completing the Tawaf, he offered two rak‘ahs near Maqam Ibrahim, and when he finished with the Salam, he went to Safa, performed the Sa’i between Safa and Marwah, and nothing that had become unlawful due to Ihram became lawful for him until the completion of Hajj. On the tenth of Dhul-Hijjah, he offered the sacrifice and performed the Tawaf of the House of Allah. After that, everything that had become unlawful due to Ihram became lawful for him. Those who had brought sacrificial animals with them also performed the same acts as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had performed.
Hadith 4127
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed four rak‘ahs of Zuhr prayer in Madinah Munawwarah and, upon reaching Dhul-Hulaifah, performed two rak‘ahs of ‘Asr prayer. He (peace and blessings be upon him) spent the night there, and after the Fajr prayer, mounted his ride. When his mount stood up with him (peace and blessings be upon him), he glorified and magnified Allah. Then, when the mount ascended to Baida’, he (peace and blessings be upon him) proclaimed the Talbiyah for both Hajj and ‘Umrah. When we reached Makkah Mukarramah, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed the people to become halal, that is, to remove their ihram. When the eighth of Dhul-Hijjah arrived, the people donned the ihram for Hajj and recited the Talbiyah. On this occasion, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sacrificed seven camels while they were standing, and in Madinah, he (peace and blessings be upon him) slaughtered two white, horned rams as sacrifice.
Hadith 4128
Saeed says: I was returning from Hajj with Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), when a Yemeni caravan passed near us. Their camels had saddles made of leather and reins made of hair. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Whoever among this year's pilgrims wishes to see people who most closely resemble those who were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and his companions during the Farewell Pilgrimage, let him look at this group.
