Abdur Rahman says that the mention of Laylat al-Qadr was made in the presence of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). He said: I will seek this night only in the last ten nights, because I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Seek it in the odd nights of the last ten nights. The practice of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was that during the first twenty days of Ramadan, he would pray according to his routine for the whole year, but when the last ten nights began, he would exert himself greatly in worship.

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Seek the Night of Qadr in the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadan. I did see that night, but then I was made to forget it. (This time) it will be a night with rain and wind.

Sayyiduna Ubadah bin Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us; he (peace and blessings be upon him) wanted to inform us about the Night of Qadr, (but he saw that) two men were arguing, and then he said: I came to inform you about the Night of Qadr, but when I found two men arguing, the signs were lifted, and it is possible that there is good and betterment for you in this. Now seek it in the last ten nights, on the twenty-first, twenty-third, and twenty-fifth night.

Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Whatever the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has said about the Night of Qadr, you already know it. Seek it in the odd nights of the last ten (nights). What do you think, which odd night will it be?

Narrated by Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Seek it in the last ten nights, when nine or five or seven nights remain.

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) has also narrated a similar hadith from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

Narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I was definitively informed about the Night of Qadr and the misguided Messiah Dajjal. I came to inform you, but at the door of the mosque, two men were arguing with each other. I went towards them to intervene between them, and in the meantime, I was made to forget that information. Now, in short, seek the Night of Qadr in the odd nights of the last ten (nights), and Dajjal will be one-eyed, with little hair on his forehead, a thick neck, and will be bent due to hunchback. Consider him as if he resembles Qatan bin Abdul-Uzza. Upon hearing this, Sayyiduna Qatan (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! Will my resemblance to him be harmful to me? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No, no, you are a Muslim and he will be a disbeliever.

Syedna Abu Saeed Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) performed i'tikaf during the middle ten days of Ramadan before the clarification regarding Laylat al-Qadr. When this ten-day period ended, he ordered his tent to be dismantled, so it was dismantled. Afterwards, it became clear to him that the night (Laylat al-Qadr) was in the last ten days. Then he ordered that the tent be set up again, so it was set up again. Thus, he performed i'tikaf during the last ten days. Then he came to the people and said: O people! I was informed with certainty about Laylat al-Qadr and I was coming to inform you, but it happened that two men were arguing, and Satan was with them, so I was made to forget that knowledge. Now, seek this night in the odd nights of the ninth, seventh, and fifth (from the end). I (Abu Nadrah) said: O Abu Saeed! You know counting better than us. He said: We (being companions) are more deserving of it than you. I said: What is meant by the ninth, seventh, and fifth night? He said: The night which you call the twenty-first night, leave it; the next night after that is the ninth. The night which you call the twenty-third night, leave it; the next night after that is the seventh. And the night which you call the twenty-fifth night, leave it; the next night after that is the fifth.
