Hadith 3981
Mawla Ibn Abbas, Hazrat Ikrimah says: I visited Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) at his home and asked him about fasting on the Day of Arafah. He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade fasting on the Day of Arafah in the plain of Arafat.
Hadith 3982
Saeed bin Jubair says: I went to Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) at the place of Arafah, while he was eating pomegranate. He said to me: Come closer and eat, but it seems that you are fasting. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not fast on this day. And on one occasion he said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not fast on this day.
Hadith 3983
Nafi' reports that it was asked from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) about the fast of the Day of Arafah. He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) did not fast on the Day of Arafah during Hajj.
Hadith 3984
(Second chain) A man asked Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) about fasting on the Day of Arafah. He said: We set out for Hajj with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he did not fast on that day. Then we came with Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), and he also did not fast. Then we came with Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and he also did not fast on that day. Then we came with Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), and he also did not fast on that day. Therefore, I also do not fast on that day, but I neither command you to fast nor forbid you from it. If you wish, you may fast, and if you wish, you may not fast.
Hadith 3985
(Third chain) Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I have never fasted on the day of Arafah, nor did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), nor did Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), nor did Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) fast on this day.
Hadith 3986
Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that I have never seen the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) observe fasting in the (first) ten days of Dhul-Hijjah.
Hadith 3987
It is narrated from Sayyida Umm al-Fadl (may Allah be pleased with her), she says: The people began to doubt on the Day of Arafah whether the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was fasting or not. I said: I will find out for you. Then she sent milk to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), which he drank.
Hadith 3988
(Second chain) It is stated in this: Sayyida Umm Fadl (may Allah be pleased with her) sent milk to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), which he drank, while at that time he was delivering a sermon in Arafah, mounted on his camel.
Hadith 3989
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) invited Sayyiduna Fadl (may Allah be pleased with him) to eat on the day of Arafah, but he said: I am fasting. Upon hearing this, he said: Do not fast on this day, because on this very day milk was presented to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), which he drank, and people also follow your example.
Hadith 3990
(Second chain) Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) invited his brother Ubaidullah to eat on the day of Arafah, but he said: I am fasting. Upon hearing this, he said: You people are leaders and members of the Ahl al-Bayt, and for this reason, people follow your example. I saw that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) drank milk on this day after having it brought to him.
